The Underbog is the second instance in the Coilfang Reservoir in Zangarmarsh, accessible through the easternmost entrance. Inside are a wide variety of enemy types, including beasts, elementals, giants, humanoids, and insects. A hunter's ability to trap most of these enemies is useful, as are mages and warlocks for their crowd control abilities. There are four bosses in the Underbog, and defeating enemies in Underbog gives Cenarion Expedition reputation. Heroic mode requires the Reservoir Key, purchasable in Cenarion Refuge.
BOSS LIST
Hungarfen
Abilities
- Underbog Mushrooms: Appear at random locations and immediately begin to grow in size. They explode, leaving a Spore Cloud that inflicts 360 nature damage every 2 second. This can stack up to 5 times.
- Foul Spores: At 20% health appears to get entangling roots, casts an AoE poison cloud and is healed for 4x the damage done.
Strategy
The tank should constantly move the boss away from any mushrooms to avoid damage to any players nearby. Bringing him in a circle around the outer edge of his platform tends to allow plenty of room to move him away from the clouds. Healers and ranged also need to be aware of where the mushrooms are. A good way to make their positions more obvious is to bring up enemy health bars (default key is ‘v'). Once he casts Foul Spores, stay away from him to avoid the AoE and wait until it ends to continue DPS.Heroic
Many, many more mushrooms will spawn, so it is important to stay away from them to avoid death. Other than that, the strategy should remain the same.Ghaz'an
Abilities
- Acid Spit: Nature based attack.
- Acid Breath: Cone attack causing nature damage and a poison.
- Tail Sweep: Damage and knockback in a cone behind Ghaz'an.
Strategy
The general idea is to tank him such that only the tank is taking damage. An easy place to do this is at the bottom of the ramp leading to Ghaz'an's platform. The tank should keep Ghaz'an facing the wall, while all DPS stays to the side of Ghaz'an to avoid both the tail swipe and the front cone attack. Ranged DPS can be should be careful not to be too far in back or in front of Ghaz'an, since the range of both of his attacks is deceptively large.Heroic
Other than increased damage and hit points, this fight is exactly the same.Swamplord Musel'ek and Claw
Abilities
- Aimed Shot: Used only at range, it can hit for over 2,000 damage on cloth wearing classes.
- Shoot: Also only used at range.
- Throw Freezing Trap: Freezes the entire party, leaving them unable to act. This effect is broken after a few seconds or when damage is taken.
- Multi-Shot: A ranged attack that hits multiple party members
- Echoing Roar (Claw): An AoE debuff that reduces armor value by 75%
- Heroic Mode: Reduces armor by 83%
- Feral Charge (Claw): Charges and stuns, Claw will charge to interrupt casting.
- Heroic mode: Also knocks the target back.
Strategy
The primary concern here is to keep Musel'ek in melee range to avoid his ranged attacks, which do a large amount of damage. Using a druid, Claw can be hibernated to take him out of the fight until Musel'ek is dead. If you don't have a druid, the simplest strategy is simply to tank both enemies and burn down Musel'ek first. It can also be helpful to have an off tank keep Claw away from Musel'ek in order to avoid the Echoing Roar.Heroic
Claw cannot be hibernated, but there are no major changes to the fight otherwise. The Black Stalker
Abilities
- Static Charge: A debuff that applies a DoT that hurts nearby party members as well as the target.
- Chain Lightning: A lightning spell that can jump to multiple targets. 3 second cast.
- Levitate: Launches a player into the air, holding them in place for a few seconds.
- Spore Strider (Heroic only): Summons three adds that cast lightning bolts at single targets. They will despawn when The Black Stalker is killed
Strategy
A lot of damage from the Static Charge and Chain Lighting spell can be avoided by simply spreading out. While levitated, it is possible to continue using ranged attacks, and it can also be dispelled. Other than those things, this is quite a simple fight.Heroic
The adds will complicate things slightly, but a capable group can concentrate on the main enemy while the healer heals through it. If you find your group having trouble, the adds can be killed relatively quickly, but she will summon more roughly every 15 seconds.MAPS

Enter Underbog and defeat a few simple pulls, keeping left while heading towards the water. In the water are fish that will attack anything that enters until Ghaz'an is defeated, so do not enter it. Keep on the shore while heading east and pull anything in range. At the end of the water, head up the ramp and around, and then kill the pair of bog giants who pull together. |

After killing Hungarfen, cross the bridge and head left up the ramp, then cross the bridge into the structure with the naga and broken draenei inside. Be very careful in this area as there are many pats and groups. Go inside, head left up the ramp, then turn around and work your way back towards the other end of the upper deck. Be careful not to fall in the water, as the angry fish will remain until Ghaz'an is dead. |

Once Ghaz'an is dead, go to end of the water opposite the naga filled building and jump through the hole in the wall, down a ways. Head left and through the corridor, watching for fast moving pats of wasps and rays. Rays will fear, so be prepared for that. Wasps are not sheepable but can be frozen with traps. Continue to the end, where you will see Swamplord Musel'ek and his pet, Claw on the right side. Do not engage them until you have defeated the Underbog Lord on the right side to avoid pulling it during the boss fight. |

Continue along the path, heading right and killing a single Underbog Lord before encountering the Black Stalker. |
LORE
Underbog is the second instance, following Slave Pens, in the Coilfang Reservoir in Zangarmarsh. It is inhabited by the Naga, led by Lady Vashj. The Naga have caused a great disturbance in Zangarmarsh by been pumping water out of Zangarmarsh for unknown reasons, corrupting and destroying life native to the area. There are smaller pumps on the surface of the lakes in Zangarmarsh, but there is a much larger force of Naga in the underground caverns of the Coilfang Reservoir, where nefarious deeds seem to be taking place. The Underbog itself is the last trace of wildlife in the Coilfang Reservoir that has not been destroyed by the Naga and their destruction of natural habitats. Inside is The Black Stalker, mother of all marsh walkers in Zangarmarsh. Killing her should help to weaken them until another emerges. Along with her is Hungarfen, a spore giant who protects the Underspore, a special plant. Swamplord Musel'ek has enslaved a Cenarion Druid, Windcaller Claw, who needs to be rescued. Ghaz'an, a hydra worshiped by the Naga in the area, is considered one of their gods.SECRET TACTICS
Take an herbalist! Many of the boglord corpses are able to be herbed, as well as an abundance of plants to be herbed compared to a normal instance. Note: Sanguine Hibiscus, collectable by ANYONE, is a hand-in quest for Sporregar rep.
