The Steamvault is the final 5-man instance in the Coilfang Reservoir in Zangarmarsh, accessible through the entrance just to the left of the main waterfall. Mostly humanoids are inside, but there are some elementals and giants, as well. The majority of pulls will be made easier with crowd control from mages, rogues, and hunters. The first boss is also much easier with a warlock's crowd control. There are three bosses in the Steamvault and defeating enemies in the instance gives Cenarion Expedition reputation. Heroic mode requires the Reservoir Key, purchasable in Cenarion Refuge.

BOSS LIST

Hydromancer Thespia

Abilities

  • Lightning Cloud: AoE that deals 1500-2500 nature damage per second to anyone inside its area of effect.
  • Enveloping Winds: Stuns a random target for 6 second. Dispellable magic debuff
  • Lung Burst: Dispellable magic DoT. Around 500 damage every 2 seconds.

Strategy

Thespia comes with two water elemental adds who should be taken care of before killing her. They are banishable and fearable, so a warlock can come in handy to crowd control them, immediately taking them out of the fight. Otherwise, focus-fire them, as they do not have too much health. During the entire fight, the main priority is for anybody standing in the lightning cloud to take immediate action to get out of it. If possible, enveloping winds and lung burst should be dispelled quickly, as well.

Heroic

On Heroic, Thespia can cast two Lightning Clouds at a time as well as two Enveloping Winds at a time. This makes it more imperative to remove debuffs and avoid Lightning Cloud, since if two member of the party are incapacitated, it can have disastrous effects.
Mekgineer Steamrigger

Abilities

  • Super Shrink Ray: Reduces damage done by 35% with chance to backfire.
  • Saw Blade: Mekgineer Steamrigger will randomly toss out a saw blade hitting for around 1500-2500 to everyone within range.
  • Electrified Net: Immobilizes target for 10 sec. 600-700 damage.
  • Enrage (Heroic Only): Enrages after 5 minutes.

Strategy

Mekgineer will call for non-elite gnomes to come heal him throughout the fight. They will channel a spell towards Steamrigger, but any damage done will interrupt them and cause them to attack instead. These gnomes can be killed quickly with focus fire or AoE, but they can also just be tanked, especially with a pally tank. Healers should be aware that all members may be taking damage from the Saw Blade, so be prepared with HoTs or AoE heals.

Heroic

Other than increased damage and hit points, this fight is the same.
Warlord Kalithresh

Abilities

  • Spell Reflection: White shield that reflects spells to caster.
  • Warlord's Rage: Self buff: 75% damage, 70% attack speed.
  • Impale: Randomly targeted damage over time, dealing 500 physical damage per tick.

Strategy

Throughout the fight, Warlord Kalithresh will begin channeling water from the nearest water tank, or Naga Distiller, in the room. Once he begins, the Distiller will become targetable and needs to be destroyed before the channeling spell finishes. If it is not destroyed, Kalithresh will gain Warlord's Rage, most likely causing a wipe. To make it a little bit more predictable, tank him near one of the Distillers so you know which one he is going to channel from, and then be ready to target it immediately. If your DPS is having trouble taking down the Distillers on time, the boss can be tanked as far away from all tanks as possible to give ranged DPS more time to destroy them before he begins channeling. The only other major threat to watch for is spell reflection, which casters should be aware of.

Heroic

Both Warlord Kalithresh and the tanks have increased health, and all damage is increased. Taking down the tanks is imperative to success on this fight, as Warlord's Rage will most surely cause a wipe.

MAPS

Heading into the Steamvault, there is a large ramp downwards. Pull the pair of naga at the bottom, then the pat. Now, kill the bog lord on the right. Keep right, while pulling each group in your way. Watch out for sirens, they'll fear. On the right, there will be a doorway with a two-pull; make sure that the pat is clear before pulling them. All of the water elemental groups can be avoided. Once the two-pull in the doorway is clear, kill the pat so the ramp is clear. Kill the group of naga back, while the elementals are patted away, and then head up on the right side and pull the Naga before the boss. Note that the Key Fragment for the Karazhan quest chain is deep in the water on the right side (diamond).
Make sure you use the control panel behind Hydromancer Thespia after killing her. Go back towards the way you came, through the passage and up the ramp where the pat was, and enter the main room of the Steamvault. Kill the Naga on the right side, cross the bridge on that side, and kill the Slave masters. The slaves will run away after the slave masters are dead, so you can ignore them. There are some AoE leper gnomes to kill just before the boss.
After using the control panel that Mekgineer Steamrigger was guarding, head back to the main room and up through the doorway that was previously closed. Make sure to kill all of the enemies in the room before engaging Warlord Kalithresh.

LORE

The Steamvault is the final 5-man instance in the Coilfang Reservoir in Zangarmarsh and is inhabited by the Naga, led by Lady Vashj. The pumps that the Naga have been using to drain the Zangarmarsh and cause an imbalance in the habitats for the life in Zangarmarsh have been designed and are controlled in the Coilfang Reservoir. There are smaller pumps on the surface of the lakes in Zangarmarsh, but there is a much larger force of Naga in the underground caverns of the Coilfang Reservoir. The Steamvault is where Mekgineer Steamrigger, designer of the pumping mechanisms, resides. Also inside is one of the biggest enemies to the Cenarion Expedition, Warlord Kalithresh.
