LEVELING
1-10 | 11-30 | 31-57 | 58-70
1-10
Leveling a warrior can be difficult given the lack of escape options and instant attacks. Start out with a two handed weapon until you get Dual Wield and switch to two one handed weapons, slower is better. Make sure you pick up First Aid as soon as possible and keep it trained up as high as possible, since it will be your best way of recovering health.
Level 1
You'll start out with Heroic Strike. This is your bread and butter for DPS. Use it as much as you can. You also have Battle Stance, which you probably won't notice until you get Defensive Stance later.
Level 2
Battle Shout is your first shout. Keep it on yourself as much as possible for leveling, since more attack power is faster leveling.
Level 4
Charge is a great skill for leveling. Charge in and you get free rage, plus it is a lot of fun! Rend is a bleed, which is good for keeping rogues from vanishing, but keep on just using Heroic Strike.
Level 6
Thunder Clap should be used whenever you have extra rage or if you are taking on multiple mobs, since it will lower your incoming damage. However, use Heroic Strike if you're low on rage.
Level 8
Hamstring is good to use on runners or in PvP.
Level 10
Now you get your first talent point. I'm going to recommend and assume that you level a Dual Wield Fury build, so start working towards Bloodthirst..
Bloodrage is great for getting a little extra rage. More rage means more damage and more damage means faster leveling! Sunder Armor is mainly used as a tanking tool in groups. It is a high threat attack and whenever you are in an instance tanking, you should use it as much as possible. An interesting note is that you can use it to gain threat on a crowd controlled mob and not break it, since it doesn't do any damage. It also increase the melee damage done to it. Taunt is used in Defensive Stance and is used when tanking and you need to pull an enemy off of another person.
Quest: Defensive Stance
You can now do a quest to learn Defensive Stance. You'll be able to pick the quest up from the Warrior Trainer in the first town you encounter after you leave your starting area. Complete it as soon as possible since it is pretty simple and Defensive Stance is needed for some important abilities. This stance is mainly used when you are tanking or if you are taking a lot of hits.
11-30
Level 12
When you are facing spell casters, keep Shield Bash on hand in order to interrupt their spells and lower the damage they do to you.
Overpower is very rage efficient, so whenever you see it light up, hit it. There are some addons that will give you an alert whenever you can use it, as well.
Level 14
Demoralizing Shout is a good cheap way to decrease incoming damage. It is also nice to use while tanking because it will allow you to live longer. It will also give you some threat on an entire group off the bat.
Revenge is the most efficient way to gain threat, and should be used every possible chance while tanking.
Level 16
Mocking Blow is kind of a taunt for Battle Stance that costs rage. Good for emergencies in order to save an ally. Shield Block is another tanking ability. It should be your highest priority while tanking in order to dramatically decrease your incoming damage. You'll most likely be able to use Revenge after you use this, as well.
Level 18
Disarm is yet another staple for tanks against melee enemies who wield weapons, decreasing damage coming in and increasing threat.
Level 20
Cleave isn't extremely useful for leveling, since it is usually more effective to just use Heroic Strike.
Retaliation is a 30 min cooldown and ideally should be used with a big 2-handed weapon when facing multiple enemies for maximum effect. Remember you can switch weapons while fighting to maximize it.
You'll also gain two passive abilities, Stance Mastery and Dual Wield. Grab a couple one handed weapons and go at it.
You can now start a quest (Alliance, Horde) to get a nice chest piece (Alliance, Horde), if you want to.
Level 22
Intimidating Shout is an AoE fear that causes your current target to stand still in fear and four others nearby to flee in fear. It's good to use when you're low on health to give yourself time to bandage or run away.
Level 24
Execute is great for finishing off enemies, especially bosses since you can spam it towards the end of the fight. Use it whenever you can.
Level 26
Challenging Shout is another tanking tool that pulls all enemies around you onto you. It does not add a ton of threat though, so they may go back to other targets once it expires.
Level 28
Shield Wall is on the same 30 minute cooldown as Retaliation. It is great for staying alive long enough to give your healer time to catch up or finish off an enemy.
Level 30
Intercept is a charge that costs rage instead of generating it. It is usable in combat, so you can use it to interrupt casters.
Slam is a key ability to use with a two handed weapon instead of Heroic Strike.
Berserker Stance increases the damage you deal and the damage you take. This will be your main leveling stance from now on. Generally, you should enter combat with a charge in battle stance, then switch to berserker, heroic strike as much as possible and execute to finish off the mob.
You'll also get your mount training at level 30, cutting down on travel time significantly.
Quest: Berserker Stance
This quest is the same for all races. Start the quest, The Islander, from Stormwind or Orgrimmar. Go to Ratchet on the east side of the Barrens, then southeast to the island. Speak to Klannoc Macleod. Head to the grate to start the waves. Back off of the grate, and down the first mob. Return to the grate after healing up and you will have to kill two more mobs. Back off the grate while you kill them. Heal up again and do the same, this time you'll have three enemies. If you are having trouble, use demoralizing shout and bandage, since it causes the enemies to run away. Now Big Will appears. Heal up and then kill him. Turn in the quest to Klannoc and you'll receive your new stance. You can continue the quest line for a nice two hander, if you want to. It isn't necessary, though, if you are dual wielding.
31-57
Level 32
Berserker Rage is free rage in berserker stance, use it whenever you can.
Level 36
Whirlwind is an effective way to dump extra rage while leveling.
Level 38
Pummel is a spell interrupt without needing a shield, which gives more flexibility when facing casters.
Level 40
This level gives you access to Plate armor, so be on the lookout for any upgrades to your mail set.
Level 50
Recklessness shares the 30 minute cooldown with Shield Wall and Retaliation. This is a good way to finish off an elite or boss, especially when combined with Execute.
58-70
Level 58
Time to get through the Dark Portal and get some very good gear upgrades. Also collecting pieces for your eventual level 70 spec is a good idea. Since most warriors are tanks, you are probably going to look for defense, stamina, block, parry, and dodge. You may also want to get some practice in instances, in order to get your feet wet for later, more difficult tasks.
Level 60
Purchase yourself an epic mount in order to get around as quick as possible. Other than that, this once important level doesn't offer anything new.
Level 62
Victory Rush is good for leveling since it's a free instant attack, as long are you are killing a bunch of enemies in a row.
Level 64
Spell Reflection is great for tanking casters, many powerful spells can be reflected. Also useful in PvP if you can time it just right.
Level 68
Commanding Shout will increase your entire party's health. You'll have to choose between this and battle shout if you are the only warrior in the group.
Level 70
Intervene is useful to move into a position quickly or stop a party member from dying. If you aren't tanking, you can intervene on the tank if he is about to die to give healers time to catch up.
PROFESSIONS
Useful to all classes, warriors are no different. Pick it up if you want to make potions.
Extremely useful for a warrior, blacksmiths can create some nice pieces of mail and plate armor for tanking or DPSing. They can also create powerful weapons to use, as well.
A ring enchant to increase stats is the only thing you would miss out by not taking Enchanting, since you can rely on others for most enchants.
Engineering has a great set of tanking goggles that are usable before you even hit 70, so it's definitely a profession to consider.
Alchemists will find herbalism very helpful. Otherwise you can learn it if you want to make some cash.
There are a couple of good necklaces, rings, and trinkets that you could pick up if you take jewelcrafting. You could also cut gems for yourself and others. Investing in jewelcrafting can lead to good profits, as well.
Armor kits are useful for enhancing your armor, stamina, or attack power, but they are purchasable. The only reason to take this would be drums.
Nice to learn if you have blacksmithing, engineering, or jewelcrafting. Extra ore can also be sold for some extra money.
Take it for use with leatherworking or just to get money.
Not much for you here. Skip this.
SPECS
Arms
Arms warriors is an all around talent tree, enhancing many of the warrior's abilities, offering weapon specializations, and eventually granting the signature attack, Mortal Strike. This attack is most potent with a hard hitting two handed weapon.
Pros
- Mortal Strike builds powerful in PvP
- Well rounded talents supplement other trees well.
- Good burst damage
Cons
- Lower survivability in PvE than Protection
- Less sustained DPS than Fury
Fury
Fury is focused on sustained DPS. Fury warriors are very good melee damage dealers, especially in PvE content. Most often a fury warrior dual wields weapons to hit enemies hard and fast.
Pros
- Good rage generation
- High raid DPS
- Good survivability in PvE with high armor in plate
Cons
- Not as viable in PvP encounters
- Limited by threat in groups and raids
Protection
This is the tanking tree for warriors. Protection allows a warrior to maximize threat generation and minimize incoming damage. Unfortunately, they give up the ability to cause decent damage which can cause difficulty when soloing. Many of a protection warrior's skills use his shield, so it is rare to find him without it.
Pros
- High survivability
- Highly effective Main Tank, especially against a single target
Cons
- Difficult to quest or solo
- Low DPS output
- Very weak in PvP
