Soloing: The Way of the Pug - Emalon
This week we’re doing something a little different with soloing. First we’ve got a vault run with Dorkins and Juggy, then we’ll have a mount run for the Swift White Hawkstrider.
Dorkins and Juggynaut learn The Way of the Pug and venture into 25 man Vault with a few people they know and a bunch that they don’t. See what happens in this episode of Soloing - The Way of the Pug.

Much better vid. The really short ones have been kind of boring, its nice to have a proper video again. Nice job on Emalon.

3rd lol nice vid i hope there r more ways of pug
By awarlock on Monday, June 1st, 2009 at 12:57 pm
gee, few things to say.
One, good episode
Two, i like the thing with dorkins and all, but i miss the 5 man runs. I really like heroics becuase in my opinion it is the most project-loreish. also do a new hordie week, sfk is my favorite.
finally: this probably isnt soling for a 25 man raid…
By Crooks on Monday, June 1st, 2009 at 12:58 pm
Great video I agree with Kagitaar the shorter ones are very boring the longer ones are great though
By Ivan on Monday, June 1st, 2009 at 1:01 pm
Awesome vid guys! I have some noob questions: First - Is VOA a some kind of PVP instnce? I know it is on Wintergrasp and the only faction which can enter VOA is the faction that dominates on the lake, am I right? Second - I didn’t understand the Dorkins’ explanation of drop. Is there some drop of T8 or only PVP gear and stuff? And the last one - If the drops are from Furious Gladiator’s set, can a group of PVE’ers enter VOA and get PVP gear without messing with arena raitings, Honor and other PVP stuff? I hope someone will answer me.
P.S. Good work on DPS Dorkins, you’ve entered the instance after the whole group and “Swept the DPS” =)
By Fobok on Monday, June 1st, 2009 at 1:02 pm
I’ve really been wanting to see what Emalon was like, so this is great!
By Ivan on Monday, June 1st, 2009 at 1:04 pm
Awarlock, the segment is called “The Way of PUG”. This may be a some sort of showing the individual work in group, not the teamwork, that we see in normal episodes of PL.
By RikeshK on Monday, June 1st, 2009 at 1:10 pm
Awesome video, finally something better than those short ones…
By Smilezor on Monday, June 1st, 2009 at 1:14 pm
great video. Tried that boss in 10 man today, very hard.
There must be a video link or sumtin cause dorkins keeps looking over and made hand movements at one point at juggy.
P.S. ranged looks like such an easy job tbh.
By Bebble on Monday, June 1st, 2009 at 1:21 pm
hmm interesting idea I like it
Great job Dorkins!
By Maxar on Monday, June 1st, 2009 at 1:33 pm
Ha didn’t know Dorkins was recording that run, I was the resto shaman in this episode
By Alayea on Monday, June 1st, 2009 at 1:47 pm
I’ve only downed Emalon once each in 10- and 25-player since patch 3.1 was released. Why is that? Because with those two exceptions, every PuG has been a fail, with either undergeared DPS/tank/heals expecting to be carried or because they cannot get the /range part of the boss through their dense skulls. I have nothing against players new to the boss, just the ones who refuse to learn. (ie. “newb” vs. “noob”)
The last part is what really frustrates me as a resto shaman since me having to move away from morons who park themselves next to me equals no healing done unless my Riptide is up. So for my part, I must say that I’m disappointed with you, Dorkins, because I’m concerned that someone watching this video will think that the chain lightning Emalon does is no big deal since healers can just heal through it. Yeah, we can do that if your hp happened to be topped off BEFOREHAND, as that one person dying next to you in the video proves.
/end rant
By Grido on Monday, June 1st, 2009 at 1:53 pm
I thought that he was going to pug that group. Like most people do after taking wintergrasp, but that looked like a guild run.
I think that was 25 heroic that drops the latest PVP gear and uldar badges.
Has the project lore team stopped playing for a bit?
By Grido on Monday, June 1st, 2009 at 1:55 pm
@Alayea I agree he could of spread out a bit more.
By Dilkesy on Monday, June 1st, 2009 at 2:00 pm
what addon does dorkins use that shows those huge addons on the middle of his screen i want them for my hunter
By Sabotazz on Monday, June 1st, 2009 at 2:14 pm
@Dilkesy
The addon is called TellMeWhen.
U can find the link here http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/tellmewhen.aspx?

Dorkins, you never got any t8.5 armor , don’t worry hunters tend not to get alot of drops in this raid. You will get some in the end
But nice episode guys. And i love the title screen to this video. Looking forward to next boss, and your upcoming videos.

Solid product placements, Dorkins! Jinx should have given you the new shirts, though.
You should have been wearing this one:
http://www.jinx.com/world_of_warcraft/men/dalaran_university.html?catid=41&cs=2&csd=41&preview=1
Also, I noticed you had some sweet looking cordless headphones on. Who made those? I go through a lot of headphones and I need a better set.
The makers of the headphones are probably calling Alex right now QQing about how you plugged for Jinx but not them. And no, we couldn’t see your longer hair because you were wearing a hat.
And no… I’m not QQing about the advertising…. I actually like it. Video production quality like you guys put out is NOT easy or free.
All in all, though… BEST EPISODE IN A WHILE! However… you should have listed off all TTRG members as scrolling credits to give your peeps their due.
By Khrono on Monday, June 1st, 2009 at 7:05 pm
Aww why did you have to go and blur my name out? Just because I beat Dorkins doesn’t mean you have to hide me.
By Somedurid on Monday, June 1st, 2009 at 7:09 pm
@Alayea
You sound so surprised
In case you didn’t notice the PL players aren’t exactly great… Far from… Some would say terribad. That’s personally why I watch this… It’s a nice way of seeing WoW if you’re cramped up in hardcore raiding where no mistakes is a must…
I hope you guys can keep it up, even though last weeks naxx run did seem like 5 guys that didn’t really care about the game getting carried by 5 others through an instance that’s worth shit. Maybe some wiping in ulduar would be an interesting video? But hey I guess wiping is interesting to watch…
By Alayea on Monday, June 1st, 2009 at 8:28 pm
@Somedurid
I wasn’t saying that they’re the best players, but they are pretty decent and I was expecting better. I mean sure, if it’s your first time, I don’t mind that. What I care about most is that people listen AND follow through (or at least do their darnedest best). Dorkins, imo, exhibited neither.
By BK on Monday, June 1st, 2009 at 8:32 pm

By Alyssa on Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009 at 12:37 am
@ Half of the commenters
You all have to keep in mind A.) It is his first time doing the boss, everyone has at least a 70% chance of making a mistake during their first attempt at anything in their life.
B.)”What I care about most is that people listen AND follow through” you clearly are unable to watch the screen, as there are parts where Dorkins switches targets from Emalon, to an overcharged tempest minion, which is pretty much the main goal of the fight, spreading out would have reduced deaths, but in the end, they killed the boss which is the only part that matters.
By Luutarha on Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009 at 12:42 am
Great vid as usual. I haven’t run him on my main yet so its nice to know about the adds beforehand.
To all the people who keep whining about and QQing the episodes, you need to realize that they aren’t hardcore raiders, they aren’t constantly playing, and they don’t live at home with mommy and daddy so they don’t have to worry about the bills and food. They have things to do outside of WoW. They’re providing you with videos for entertainment and information, if you don’t like the way they do it, get your guild together and do it yourself. Shut up and enjoy or go away.

I do miss the 5 man runs, but I’ll take this. ;o) I’d love to see Project Lore go back to 5 episodes a week… *begs and pleads* 3 just ain’t cutting it…

I would really love to see Juggy give a video guide on restoration shamans or just shamans in general. That would be cool.

Agreed with Jing, I wanna see a Shammy guide from Juggy
Speaking of 1 month+ of no WOW, what have Zand been doing? It’s like he stayed in a cave w/o WOW or haircut, reminds me of Goggins; hat and long hair hahaha

By DeeJayDieSeL on Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009 at 9:04 am
Great stuff! Never thought i would see the “way of the pug” but you guys proved me wrong.
ROFL @ moonkin death
QQ @ juggy death
Also is there anyway of seeing Juggy’s screen while playing? Im guessing you guys tried/thought of it but meh I have to express myself as the curiosity drives me to ask.
ALSO! I have a few suggestions for “the way of the pug”. Why dont you get someone who has a 70 character (like shnoobins or drdark or xeno) and PUG Sethekk to do Anzu, i watched the episode and you guys said you will come back to show him! PLEASE
Also #2! In the slave pens episode you guys fought the Ice Lord or something like that and got spanked… i say it is revenge time!
Other than that I am happy with the idea of “the way of the pug” and i wish you guys good luck with it
By Zerbet on Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009 at 9:06 am
I like the concept, but I think PL can find any number of people to “star” in these that don’t have a giant “they dragged me down here and made me do this” attitude.
It’s. a. game. and. he’s. not. having. fun. When would that EVER be fun to watch?
Find someone who is so jaded (from having a group of quality players carry them through every dungeon in the game) to “star” in these, and I think they would be an awesome addition to (but not a replacement for!) the 5- and 10- man shows.
By Zerbet on Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009 at 9:07 am
*isn’t so jaded
By Messter on Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009 at 9:10 am

By Alayea on Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009 at 12:11 pm
@Alyssa
I did watch the video. It was good that Dorkins did switch between Emalon and the overloaded add when he needed. I am aware it was his first time. I am also aware that a raid can sometimes afford some deaths. However, almost every single wipe I’ve been in is because of the /range fail, due to people either having a cavalier attitude about it — such as you do — or simply not paying attention to how their position is affecting others. So my comments still stand.
By Maethros on Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009 at 12:37 pm
Dorkins did pretty good for his first time doing this boss. Over 4k dps and he didn’t die.
I hope to see the rest of the PL crew soon.
By Boom! Boom! Firepower! on Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009 at 12:47 pm
good episode dorkins. when will the pl gang be back? also, after the pug stuff, can you have juggy give some guides to some classes. i have a lvl 79 dk and will hit 80 this week for sure. i can not decide if i will be a ne rogue or a human warrior. i will be a non pvp char. i want to make the char after the patch. i would enjoy the guide and others might too.
ty pl!
By Dalinus on Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009 at 1:23 pm
if your all taking a break from the game its understandable, but it would be nice if you at least gave us an update through the forums or weekly wrapup or something… These are nice though, if you guys switched it up and had lyle and alex or jeff sometimes that would be cool
By Nyster on Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009 at 1:30 pm
I saw that Dorkins has changed his pet.
Do you belive that a wolf with his attack buff is better than cat’s dps?
By Malde on Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009 at 1:33 pm
Hey guys this may sound a little stupid but, what is the name of the addon that Dorkins is using, the one that showes when ever he klick on an item, it showes how much crit he will get??
By cocopuff on Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009 at 1:33 pm
i did him allready so i was aware of what to see but the battle looked cool bolts flying every whear doorkins crits like crazy sacond this has been driving crazy is the tittle “the way off pug” is taht supostu be a star wars refrence
By Blight on Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009 at 1:54 pm
Gotta say, Juggy is pretty awesome, he’s really aware of what’s going on and the fights, he can even keep track of another player (Dorkins in the case) to make sure they’re doing the right thing. It’s too bad he died in this fight. Sometimes though, no matter how well you play, you just have bad luck.
As some have mentioned here, it would be pretty nice to see some Juggy content, especially Shaman guides and information. I wonder if Juggy will ever step in front of the camera.
By Blight on Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009 at 2:01 pm
Oh, and thanks Project Lore for showing me the Emalon fight! I was hesitant to go into VoA because I didn’t know the fight, but now I feel confident in joining in and know what I need to do.
By cocopuff on Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009 at 2:08 pm
ok i read all the post and boy so much to say first maxar and the other guy i wonder if you were one of the “idiots”. it was a pug for god sakees shouldent you have been able to ell that thier are gointo be some mistakes if they didnt make mistakes it would not be a pug and besides its not like the mistakes were fatal why do you want them to die so much are u actualy jalous of them first you complained that they tore threw naxx to fast now you want them to go ulduar and get thier asses kicked the water lord beast is part of a world event the midsummer which is coming up soon and if you’re gointo do an old world instance why not dod somethig cool like BT or sunwell or the coolest of all mount hyjal why is it so important thats it is a n ordial to do these episodes why cant you go in with you’re 80s as long the viewers learn something what does thier death and wipes make you feel better about you’re self and skills as a player the horde week was teh worst week in PL
By Carlos on Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009 at 4:03 pm
We all probably didn’t know how to kill Nightbane the first time we fighted against him. This was Zand’s first attempt at Emalon so I think he did fairly good. Probably next time he won’t make the same mistakes he did in this run.
Nice Episode, keep up the good work.
By Hank on Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009 at 4:08 pm
Dorkins: How does it feel to quest with a champion?!
Juggy : Pretty good.
I lol’d
Zand, since it was only you two playing, you should have placed a close up of the juggy box in the lower left corner.
Great new segment.
By Doug on Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009 at 5:31 pm
I agree with Hank. There should be a little juggy box in the corner. What i want to know is what dorkins is looking at. Is Jugs right next to him? Hmmmm
Is OS or EOE in the future?
By cocopuff on Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009 at 7:02 pm
lol why do yo want a box i nthe corner so you can watch sound come out of it i mean it odest do anything whats teh point
By WaVe on Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009 at 8:13 pm
I laughed when Dorkins completely didn’t notice the fact that he didn’t spread out and caused the moonkin next to him to get absolutely pwned by the chain lightning.
By onthebuses on Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009 at 8:55 pm
@ Eddie T who said
“I have no respect for raged dps. Dorkins didn’t have to move once. Isn’t it boring though not having to deal with novas and war stomps and all kinds of other crap”
First if your going to disrespect a the ranged dps. Then at least spell it right. Raged dps.? Seriously LOL.
Secondly Dorkins did have to move several times joining the fight to get in range, to change to overcharged add. Plus we are supposed to stay at range. And he also got caught in nova, if you look closely, near the moonkin death. And avoided it also later on.
Thirdly Dorkins didn’t have to move much, because if you didn’t notice, ( I somehow think you didn’t ) the tanks kept Emalon in one place. So there was no need to go chasing Emalon around, like so many groups I have seen do. And a hunter is a pure dps class, they do there best dps at range. What you want him to do run in and erm..hit with a weak ass close range shot LOL.
Basically with you its one of 2 things.
1. You need to learn to play.
2. Or you don’t like the dps the ranged people are putting out, because it is some of the top dps out there at the moment, and your close range dps is rubbish.
W/e it is just quit complaining. LMAO. Nothing better to do than come on here and do that? Well what an intresting life you must lead.
And to everyone else sorry for the long post but this cake just without the icing on top, needed to be told. …and chillllllll

Personally, I’m very against VoA.
It’s very easy fights. I guess no one can say it’s a hard fight or hard tactics..
Also, that T8.5 drops is just ridicolous.
I mean, fighting hard bosses in Ulduar to get T8.5 vs. Doing a raid easier than Heroics?
That fails tbh.
Anyways, nowadays every guy could get awesome gear, just camp outside VoA every week..
It’s okay also that it drops PvP gear, but PvE gear.. Noes!
By Khrono on Thursday, June 4th, 2009 at 12:41 pm

“Watch cooldowns and hit buttons” I couldn’t sum up the inaneness of the game (and mostly raiding) better. Hit 3-4 buttons in a sequence, for 10 minutes, tabbing. Playing an DPS is like that though.
Also spend 80 hours levelling your alt up from 70-80 with the same quests, that’s about the same ‘fun’ experience.
By Laretes on Monday, June 8th, 2009 at 12:13 am
Dude, Dorkins you rock i love all these Dorkins solo’s (insert kewl instance/daily here) but i have a question. Where did you get your hat that you wore in this video, if you could email me and tell me where you got it that would be awesome.
By yoojoo on Friday, June 12th, 2009 at 1:30 pm
good job juggy (and Dorkins… mrhm)
Btw Dorkins why do you think you’re the best all the time if you wipe in like each instance and raid few times? And the other hunter was 1.2k dps better than you.
It’s not only gear that makes you pro
By JAYOO on Saturday, June 13th, 2009 at 1:37 pm
Man, I get so frustrated when you don’t use kill shot. Those things crit for over 10k. You should be spamming it as much as possible….
Well apart from that, great Emalon run. Usually I don’t get into pugs that can one-shot it. We usually get these idiots (Death Knights /cough) that don’t know to run out of the Lightning Nova, even when we tell them to, and then we have a lack of DPS to take down the enraged add. Or people just don’t switch to the add and stay on the boss. Laaame.
We usually end up wiping a few times before resorting to kicking people, and replacing them with more healers or very good DPS. Just yesterday we had an idiot Paladin tank the adds, then we inspected him and saw he was ret, and that he was in mostly blues on Heroic VoA. Blah. No wonder he died in two hits.
I remember when Emalon first came out, people were crying for 3k+ DPS only, and it was nearly un-puggable because people were so bad at it. But now that Emalon has been out for a while, it’s getting easier to pug without issues. Great video. Anyone who doesn’t know the fight (especially ranged) should be watching this to get an idea of what to do.

@ Zeppi
You mean you’re dreaming to get into one of the easiest raid encounters WoW has EVER known - VoA?
Seriously, I suggest you stop playing WoW. If you can’t even do VoA, then what can you do?
On topic- I do agree that Dork has a very weird attitude for a WoW player. Why does he even say “i love this game, waiting for cooldowns and pressing buttons”. Dude, you press buttons in every single game in the world. Period. It be a joystick, it be a keyboard, it be a mouse…
But then again, I really think you did a great job man! I remember doing Emalon for the first time, and I can tell you this: it did not go as smooth
