Soloing: My First Quests in Northrend, Part One
Project Lore’s favorite hunter begins his epic quest to reach level 80 by questing in Northrend, Howling Fjord in this premier episode of Project Lore Soloing.
This is the very first episode of Soloing, a new segment from Project Lore that will cover different aspects of WoW, apart from dungeons and raids. We plan on covering quests, achievements, professions, and anything else you all want to see. If you have suggestions for what you’d like to see on soloing, let us know. Leave a comment or drop a line to editor@projectlore.com
The next episode will be up on Thursday at Noon, PST, so check it out then. Meanwhile, we’ve got more Oculus tomorrow.

I would like to see a run down of all the different add-ons and interface options you have turned on/installed.
By Tony on Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008 at 1:30 pm
cool new segment, keep up the great work Project Lore
By Kanop on Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008 at 1:31 pm
When he said he did Utgarde and Oculus, he did mean Utgarde and Nexus, right?
By Nida on Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008 at 1:40 pm
While I don’t have the TomTom addon, I do use QuestHelper. Which is pretty much a godsend, though sometimes I still find myself wondering over to thottbot….
And I can see that you’re using RatingsBuster or something very similar (also very, very great to have).
Anyway, cool episode - great to see on my B-Day. ^_^ And Zand….interesting ’stache. Not bad - but definitely interesting. lol
By WML on Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008 at 1:40 pm
…wait, so Zand doesn’t have a real job, and gets to make internet TV about him playing WoW, AND has guns of steel? Damn, I wanna be like him when I grow up! Stuff this university BS!
By Fwibib on Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008 at 1:41 pm
Nice mustache zand
By Hoss on Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008 at 1:56 pm
Fwibib beat me to the punch on the Porno Stash.
Now i have to say I was not impressed to see Zand running Quest helper for his assumed first time through Northrend.
I also think that quest helper is a really cool mod, it really destroys the point of the game if this is your first time through.
The quests in outland are much better then vanilla wow at telling you where to go, and with quest helper you just read the synopsis and follow the arrow. Though this can be MUCH faster at times you can miss all the lore and such.
anyway, keep up the good work and hopefully you guys will get back to a 5 day rotation soon..
Love the Stash and I want to see some Tom Selleck my the end of the week!
By Hoss on Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008 at 2:02 pm
Oh and I forgot… the new pet defensive Sucks! and with Passive you really need to micro manage your pets target.
By Antiyoi on Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008 at 2:04 pm
This is good stuff. However, you are leaving out the Horde quest
By Jaime on Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008 at 2:07 pm
Hey in your first segment of soloing was that guy on the horse flying a GM? also do all of you guys get spam from your fans when you guys log in and play?
By Seltek on Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008 at 2:12 pm
Nice moustache Zand!
BTW i would like to see more content involving holy paladins as i played as one thorugh the TBC and WOTLK and it would be nice to see your views on thir moves and how it works.
Name - Seltek (Holy paladin)
Guild - Burning ashes
Server - Sunstrider PVP EU

If I got replaced by that ugly lizzard thing I would leave you Zand. Time for a new blog post by Jimmy
By Fedrex on Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008 at 2:26 pm
Great new Idea guys, Its good to be able to watch the alliance quests in northrend (even though i could do them, I’m having more fun in my horde character)
Have you guys ever considered doing something with the Horde?. Theirs a whole world of lore, quests and other fun stuff that’s being unrepresented.
By Grido on Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008 at 2:27 pm
I don’t really want to see you do every quest. Maybe just focus on the cool ones that people should not miss while leveling.
I use Quest helper but not tom tom. I just like to know the Im generally in the right area on the mini map. Tom tom’s big arrow is too much.
Gatherer is great for miners and herbalists.
Zand also used Auctioneer to tell how much the Axe would vendor for.
By Santofuego on Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008 at 2:28 pm
Awsome episode. I’m not a big fan of quest helper… but whatever sinks your boat and turns it into a submarine I always say.
I gotta admit, the mustache and huge hair had me in stiches! Awsome job Zand!
By ren0 on Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008 at 2:55 pm
I highly recommend getting Tekkub’s VendorBait ( http://tekkub.net/addons/VendorBait ) and Sellfish ( http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info7035-SellFish.html ) addons.
SellFish will list the price of items to vendors and VendorBait will actually highlight the item worth the most money so it’s not a guessing game when getting gear to vendor that you don’t need.
The Druid staff was worth more in this case.
By minicuda on Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008 at 3:05 pm
man im hored this helps me none what so ever why dont you do hored and do the quests in hored?
By Charrge on Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008 at 4:42 pm
Nice post Project Lore/Zand. I hope you guys are able to do more than just 2-3 quests per episode though. The length was good, not too long and not too short but I really think that more could be done within the time allotted.
It’s good that Zand isn’t reading all the quests like in 10 Days of Knight in order to save time but as a viewer want to see more quests than just 2.
In all, this is a great idea; showing another aspect of the game is a super cool addition to the Project Lore website. Keep up the good work!
By Matthew on Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008 at 5:04 pm
Zand your an idiot, Oculus is a lvl 80 instance, and you should know that because you did it on the beta. But anyway, great work, love the show and keep it up.
By Grant on Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008 at 5:05 pm
What is that addon that whenever u look at the stats it will tell you like +13 Staminia and stuff that you have. I’ve seen it before but never found out about it
By Raten on Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008 at 5:08 pm
love the idea of soloing. and as for your pet trouble, i had the same problem with my deathknights ghoul. he aggroed all of ramps and caused a wipe when he was of defensive.
By Twest on Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008 at 5:12 pm
Hey Zand, jist a li’l side note…Check out an addon called LightHeaded, does about the same as tomtom, however it also gives u the comments posted on wowhead for that quest as well as the quests to follow for quest lines
By Wringo on Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008 at 5:47 pm
nice stash zand

By Dibullba on Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008 at 6:18 pm
If u want to figure out which quest reward is gonna fetch u more gold then get the addon known as actioneer which is useful in many ways. The goal of the addon is to make u as much gold as possible within reason.
By Ej on Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008 at 7:59 pm
Man, Zand is my new Hero, he seems like hes one of the only Project lore guys Largely dedicatied to WoW.
By fat guy on Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008 at 8:12 pm
haw haw zand has to tape himself soloing because the rest of the guys (minus juggynaut) don’t want to play anymore. look at their characters on the armory. they’ll probably end up paying some chinamen to level their characters for them.
By Zaraken on Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008 at 10:23 pm
Ah the worm, on my server that is a rarity to see hunters use out of the exotics. Its 90% of the time devilsaurs and corehounds these days replacing the cats of the old days. Also good to see whacky ai of pets still showing its not always directly the hunter’s fault for a wipe.
Haven’t gotten to Northrend yet due to working on a death knight and a pally in Outland still(and rl issues), so this be a nice preview.
By UberWay on Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008 at 10:44 pm
I would just like to say…Dude, sweet stache…keep it up for all of us moustache champs!!!!
By Fallas on Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008 at 10:57 pm
Ok Zand one question? Your showing everyone Soloing from the Alliance view of things. How about the Horde side. Can we get some Soloing on the horde side. Oh yea you guys are doing a great Job keep up the great work!!!!!
By Vozzy on Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008 at 3:36 am
Great idea, and I’m glad they picked you for it! You make the show very entertaining. :] You guys should also get someone to do the horde side like other people have suggested, although I am Alliance - it would be nice to see what the horde are going through.

By Oji on Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008 at 3:56 am
Nice idea, but here’s a suggestion: A good portion of what Blizzard did for WLK was improve the quality of the quests. As proof we get a great new feature called “phasing” that is used for some of the best questlines to date. While Zand’s out with RedWilly (sp?), I think there should be a nice segment for stuff like the Wrathgate/Battle for the Undercity questlines.
Also, while I get the idea of the “solo” segments, doing the show with 2-3 permanent party members would be a better idea. If anything, it’ll make the show more interesting.
PS: The guy on hovering above Dorkins was Juggynaut on the Headless Horseman’s horse. (GIEF HORSEY! *shakes fist*)
By Juanin on Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008 at 5:40 am
Zand was so cool doing the 10 Days of Knight, and now Soloing in Northrend with him again is purely awesome.
Just a suggestion: when you name addons, it’d be a great thing for us viewers that, in a comment or sth, write the names of those addons or link them to download. Spanish-speaking people like me, who are just starting to learn Engish can’t catch up those names.
Best wishes!
By Mr.Vincent on Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008 at 7:31 am
Instead of questhelper I would have to recommend CarboniteQuest. It’s jsut a smidgen better.
By fatguy on Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008 at 8:46 am

By Blight on Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008 at 9:26 am
Hahah, more Zand questing. One thing I’d like to request, do the voices every so often for quest dialog. Something about that is just too funny. Doesn’t have to be every quest though, once an episode or so.
Also, this is the first episode, there was a bit of introduction, so I’m guessing future episodes (which have probably been already recorded at this point) will have more quests done during the episodes.
Oh, and folks, he’s got a whole goatee there going on, it’s just the chin part is a bit light, and the video compression doesn’t do a great job of highlighting it.
By fungusmonkey on Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008 at 9:48 am
Cool stuff Zand! Dig the pedo-stache.
By Sunalar on Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008 at 11:28 am
This was a nice little intro to soloing. I noticed that Zand was using Quest Guru which I use as well. It has helped me on many occasions to remember which quests I have already completed, and which rewards I picked from those quests.
As far as Quest Helper, I’m all for it. When I first starting playing WOW, I tried without any addons and I spent more time being frusterated that I could not find who I was looking for that it was not fun to play. If you are really into the lore Quest Helper doesn’t stop you from reading the quest information, I just think for some people the lore isn’t important, which is kind of sad because the lore brings a whole new experience to the game. Instead of just kill X and collect Y, you know why you are doing it, making the game much more fun.

By Jeff on Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008 at 5:04 pm
not really helping me because i started off in borean tundra and there is some mayhem happing there with leviroth and other peoples
By Jeff on Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008 at 5:22 pm
I did Borean Tundra, first — mainly ‘cos I was hangin’ in SW a bunch, from LLQ-ing — ‘cos that’s where SW Harbour goes; I found my way to Howling Fjord, later…
I did those same Q’s yesterday & coulda done with that TomTom (nice name - same as the sat-nav…?) and coulda done with it for a few of the later ones…
Dude; ‘tache has appeared & hair has grown - need to get thee to a barbers before that stuff takes over… LOL
By jcjc on Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008 at 7:20 pm
why would anyone who’s addicted to WoW watch a video of someone else playing over doing it themselves?
By Sefeth on Friday, December 5th, 2008 at 7:15 am
I uh… MAN…. i mean…. that stache just sucker punched me when i clicked play, maybe goggins will make fun of it though.
This looks like it’ll be a very promising series, and, if zand is willing, maybe this will carry on and on and on and on till he finally gets to the wrathgate questline (although at this pace that wrathgate video would be of him like… 3 years younger) just saying… his reaction to that would be priceless.
this is a good idea, it just needs some trimming and perhaps this could be a sort of newbie’s guide to northrend series.

By PZ on Friday, December 5th, 2008 at 6:41 pm
The mustache is hideous… time for you to visit your closest major city and go to the barber!!!
Not a bad concept for new episodes guys, great job!
By Decertian on Saturday, December 6th, 2008 at 10:38 am
I’d like to second what someone else said. I tried TomTom and wasn’t impressed, that arrow is seriously misleading.
Could you try CarboniteQuest an let us know what you think? I started using it yesterday and have fallen in love!
I also like QuestGuru and LightHeaded.

By hecket on Friday, January 2nd, 2009 at 7:49 am
Wish you guys would actually make a longer episode.
These quest were done in about a hour or 2 yet you have to stretch it over 8 episodes?!!
But other then that lovin’it!
By sarutobisan on Sunday, January 4th, 2009 at 12:41 am
i love the fact that there is going to be new segments on soloing and addons ..
however i would suggest looking into a new addon by the name of carbonite
i used to use tom tom and i have to tell you after i switched to carbonite i will never use tom tom again
carbonite not only shows you everything tom tom did arrow included but it also shows you all players in the area who have carbonite where they are and what quests they have that you have as well ..
this is handy if you need help with something and it shows you all your guild members locations .
its also complete with quest helper ..
i dont assume to know whether either is better its just my personal opinion however i do believe that both addons should be tried by everyone to find the one that helps compliment their unique style of game play ..
By wickedVixen on Sunday, January 18th, 2009 at 4:52 am
Carbonite Quest is a very similar add on. but with a lot more features. CQ FTW.
By skullhill on Tuesday, March 17th, 2009 at 6:45 am
Lol, great vid. Very entertaining stuff. Zand, you make the episode a lot of fun to watch. Thx dude!
By Astaire on Friday, March 20th, 2009 at 10:21 am
Wow, You make doing quests even funner! I’m going to start reading the quests, I use Cartographer, and Quest helper, witch kind of distracts me and I end up just following the arrow, Ill try your tomtom add on! Witch seems so cool.
I’m thinking about doing a rouge or hunter or pally on a pvp server, dont know witch thou, xD Love the pet, love rouge power!
Server=Borean Tundra
Name=Melmari-Night Elf/ Druid/ LV 30
