Episode 17.2: Culling of Stratholme

Project Lore follow Arthas into Old Stratholme in the Caverns of Time. They begin the timed event which may lead to a new mount for Bowbins or Lylelovett… but can they do it? Is time on their side? Watch this episode and find out.

Heh, you guys wiped on that boss?

May we please see the DPS meter? :D

Second the motion for DPS meters! Let us see the awesomeness of Jeff! ;-)

By Unknown-Man on Wednesday, April 8th, 2009 at 1:01 pm

aww man I was expecting for you guys to get the drake… It was a nice episode though. Cant wait for the next one.

By kiley on Wednesday, April 8th, 2009 at 1:06 pm

The tips that i we did to get the drake when our guild was
running COS was blow as many CD’s as you can on each boss to speed things up. We used a prot warrior (and he’d pop last stand and shield wall every boss) resto shammy (heroism every 10 mins) DK (their op and army of the dead really helps) a Survival hunter and a fury warrior. Seriously
though blowing CD’s really speeds things up.
Most CD’s are only 5-10min long and when doing this timed event you SHOULDN’T be conservative about them. Use them when they’re up so you can blow through the bosses nice and easy.

By Gerandor on Wednesday, April 8th, 2009 at 1:06 pm

I wasn’t quite expecting that wipe either.. Thinking of everything, if you had gotten the timed thing, this entire heroic could have easily been mashed down into one video^^

By ekh on Wednesday, April 8th, 2009 at 1:07 pm

Actually, at 10:17 you can see Winterstrike doing… I believe 1.8k dps,(topping damage done but not DPS) but I might be wrong, not the easiest thing to see. And that might’ve even been for the current fight only, who knows.

But it is to say, CoT: CoS is not the best places to gauge DPS…

By The Darkness on Wednesday, April 8th, 2009 at 1:15 pm

    @ Skyler
whats the real point of saying “you guys suck” is it because they wiped or because you just don’t like them either way whats the point of coming to this website and typing “you guys suck” in you only wasting your time from WoW which is wasting part of your life since WoW is your life

    Any way, good episode

By Tom on Wednesday, April 8th, 2009 at 1:17 pm

No reason to feel bad, that’s a very healing intensive fight.

You’ll get it next time for sure. :)

By dagimp007 on Wednesday, April 8th, 2009 at 1:19 pm

i dont know if this has been posted yet, but if u are running for time and reading this here are some time check..

at 15 min left you should be done with the first 10 mobs.
at 10 min you should be done with the shadow dragon room and be running threw the bookcase
at 3min you should have finished the last gauntlet and should run straight to the extra boss and don’t talk to Arthas.

with those time checks your should have 2-3 min to spare

By Munchkinz on Wednesday, April 8th, 2009 at 1:21 pm

Great Job Guys… i always watch ur vids.. and They ROCK… big time…

By Xian on Wednesday, April 8th, 2009 at 1:34 pm

I had a very hard time healing in this instance on normal mode. It was my first time in there, and I think the sheer amount of mobs may have scared/shocked me.

    (was a 79 healadin)

By elion on Wednesday, April 8th, 2009 at 2:08 pm

    that is to bad

By Kreion on Wednesday, April 8th, 2009 at 2:55 pm

ah well when i did it at 80 hc we got to the second boss and the healer left :p fun instance tho guys and just unlucky,
@DJ DieSeL there probs just trying to get the instance done quickly and are annoyed tht they wiped i would be to id i wanted the drake tht bad ( 4000g to epic flying so ya :/) well unlucky guys im sure Lylelovett an Bowbins will get there mounts someday :P

By Eventime on Wednesday, April 8th, 2009 at 3:05 pm

Even without the wipe it seemed like they were going kinda slow for the timed event. Still it’s a learning experience and next time you run it you have a better idea on what to do.

By Tharon on Wednesday, April 8th, 2009 at 3:26 pm

LOL, am I the only 1 who noticed that they were distinctly displayin their BlizzCON pets? Nice vid BTW guys, keep it up, maybe next time u’ll drop the first boss on the first attempt.

By Sean on Wednesday, April 8th, 2009 at 3:42 pm

I wonder if humans roamed the lands on polar bears with murlocs on top waving Blizzcon flags, back in the days that Arthas wasn’t the Lich King.

By Aarondude on Wednesday, April 8th, 2009 at 3:44 pm

They mostly would have not have made it either way, wipe or not. Lyle being new to the instance, albeit this was 3 or so months ago so Lyle isn’t new anymore, did hinder their speed, but since this was an episode of Project Lore (Not the speediest but that’s a good thing) I never really expected them to get the Infinite Corrupter on time anyway. When I looked at the episode list, there was this one’s description, and 17.3 says “takes on Meathook.” so it was either this would have been insanely short and was only trash, or they wiped. Which in this case, was the latter.

By Just a dude on Wednesday, April 8th, 2009 at 4:13 pm

Though I may hate world of warcraft and games in general, I like watching this because you guys are pretty funny.

I stumbled upon this website by complete accident and didn’t know why I started watching, but you guys are pretty funny, so I continued.

One thing I never understood (because I started watching later) was why the heck you would show shots of the speaker every now and then until the episode before this when I finally realized that it was the other dude playing the game that’s not in the room with you.

    Ha

By Kyle on Wednesday, April 8th, 2009 at 4:19 pm

i watch it, i watch it all the time, i ran this heroic every day for 4 or 5 days to grind the mount w/ a group of five people, i got it on the last day, but i never died, either its the tank and he needs a few more pieces of gear, or the healer needs to be healing specced ;)

By Rick on Wednesday, April 8th, 2009 at 4:53 pm

    @ donk
depends for like 90% on the player and his/her skills, class is never the problem, unless you wanna heal with a mage or something:P

By Venomousbloodelf on Wednesday, April 8th, 2009 at 4:59 pm

This episode kinda made me sad. . . seeing the big dramatic “Boss Kill” graphic, only to have the episode end on a wipe. Usually it’s cool to see you guys bounce back and get it right on the second try.

Now I can only assume everyone got discouraged, stopped shooting the video, and quit Project Lore. Don’t leave us hanging like that!

By Illithian on Wednesday, April 8th, 2009 at 5:01 pm

Well, that wasn’t pro at all. =\

By Baek on Wednesday, April 8th, 2009 at 5:02 pm

So sad that they didn’t make it for the drake (though with a shaman and a Paladin it could still be possible for Juggy to ankh and rez Winterstrike and keep going if they picked up the pace). As a tank myself (granted I am a Paladin and this place is a playground for me) if you haven’t set foot in the zone before it’s pretty much a moot point to try a timed run. Perhaps if they had run it on normal before shooting a couple times they could have gotten it.

The look on their faces when they wiped, priceless. They all look as if they were told for the first time that Santa is just a drunk man in a suit at the mall, the Easter bunny isn’t real and that the world as they know it has come to an end. The shock, the awe, the disappointment… Drama at it’s finest.

By Healzrus(RETRI) on Wednesday, April 8th, 2009 at 5:26 pm

Wow. Simply. wow. Great job projectlore! This website and video content makes instances and the game in general very fun and enjoyable~!

Keep up the filming too.. remember the video crew that helped film this too.. cos i was a videoman myself once hahahaha

BTW.. yea.. tank coulda blown LAst Stand and shield Wall..

or the paladin coulda blown Lay on Hands on the tank..

After watching the video, its comforting to know that even seasoned players forget their class mechanics from time to time hahahaha

By Jeff on Wednesday, April 8th, 2009 at 6:02 pm

Something tells me that Lyle got hosed on this, for not having run it, before…

Might it have been better to have run it through, once to get everyone up to speed on what was going to happen & then run it a second time (on tape), to show the Group getting the achievements available (or not)…?

It wasn’t the most glowing indictment of how a Guild runs an Instance, esp. if 2 of the DPS seemed to be pre-occupied with their DPS showing - 2 of the team who (it would appear) had run the Instance before & would seemingly KNOW how the Event was going to unfold…

This wipe was horrible - I’ve seen PL have ‘better’ wipes (less disappointing ones) - and it didn’t show the team as a cohesive unit… like Dorkins said; ‘We need to focus…’, but some of the team didn’t…

By Goosecomics on Wednesday, April 8th, 2009 at 6:38 pm

I agree with Jeff. This is why I hate DPS meters. Most dps classes only care about DPS instead of whats going on around them, and cause problems to the group / raid. DPS is not everything.

What ever else I had to say, was already said in the previous comments, and I would just be repeating it.

Just an FYI though, you could still do the drake one after one wipe, just have to release asap, and run back. Make sure to talk to Chromie to port to the entrance. Most people forget about that.

    oh hais

By Kagitaar on Wednesday, April 8th, 2009 at 7:17 pm

    …What?

How did he die? Did he forget he has CDs to pop when things get bad? Meathook may hit fairly hard, but its not that bad.

CoS was my first LK heroic and I wasn’t expecting to get the drake, but sure enough I got my group to the Infinite Corrupter with 4 minutes left on the clock. Maybe it was because I am a paladin, but still, its not rocket science to get it.

By Garmazel on Wednesday, April 8th, 2009 at 7:52 pm

Where did you get the awesome ninjabrears with frikkin murlocs on? Coolest thing ever! Bla bla bla, i have recently enterd the world (of warcraft) and am currently lvl 64 druid so i don’t have any idea of all the crazy lvl 80 things going on.

By Will on Wednesday, April 8th, 2009 at 8:21 pm

Great Job guys Im long time watcher first time writer everyone dies sometimes helpful comment would be to attack the same side of the boss and be arrranged in a order for the healer to be able to easily heal but you guys are the experts. Oh by the way What hapened to Goggins he was a good player and a great resty shaman can you tell what happend to him

By Solarphoenix on Wednesday, April 8th, 2009 at 9:07 pm

to bad about the drake but by now all of you guys prolly have it i bet >.> can’t wait to run this instance though and for all i know i may get lucky and have my first group being people who already know how to do the whole thing no problem and just wanted one more person…either way i can say this Easy drake once you get the hang of it (at least from what i am hearing since i haven’t run it yet)

By Muted on Wednesday, April 8th, 2009 at 11:16 pm

Lol jeff is cocky now that he is getting dps up there. First off, Lyle, DO NOT KEYBOARD TURN use the mouse, just unbind them arrow keys, u should never click or keyboard turn, it delays ur reactions to things by 10x. And yah dps, all they care is about who will get highest, they pull before even the tank gets aggros, then whine when they die and complain about the healers. Dorkins, Bowbins, and Winter, stop worrying about your dps . Should of also gave lyle kings instead of might, forget them stupid monkeys lol

By André on Thursday, April 9th, 2009 at 1:13 am

    @Donk

    Thats just plain wrong.

Lyle isnt even using half of his abilities.

Run ahead of your healer, charge in on the elites, shockwave em all for a 4 sec stun, Thunderclap, cleave with glyph of cleave. Aoe tanking? No problem. But you have to know what you are doing. Lyle dont.

By Sylvester on Thursday, April 9th, 2009 at 1:34 am

    @ Donk
Warriors are good aoe tanks but if you take a look at Lyle’s gear and the others its clear its hard for him to control the threat.

By Adonys on Thursday, April 9th, 2009 at 1:46 am

A little tip for jeff - use lay on hands on the tank when he has low hp.

By Smilezor on Thursday, April 9th, 2009 at 2:48 am

that was a really boring episode. two episode and not one boss kill

    still quite funny though

By Diogo on Thursday, April 9th, 2009 at 4:10 am

    @Smilezor

how can you find something boring and fun at the same time?

By 5oren on Thursday, April 9th, 2009 at 5:40 am

    @Will

Unfortunatly Goggins left PL for good. Alex told us in an earlier weekly wrap up.

But lucky for us, Jeff is a cool dude and a good addition to the PL team.

For the episode, well it would be nice if they’d just did the whole instance in 2 or 3 episodes. But instead they’ll use 2 weeks.

When are you guys gonna show some lich king raiding stuff?

By idkfa on Thursday, April 9th, 2009 at 7:07 am

it would be nice to see the PL team and some of the guild people to sow us a naxx run on reg or heroic

By Jenjen on Thursday, April 9th, 2009 at 9:38 am

I don’t think you guys sucks, I’m just really dissapointed you couldn’t keep your healer alive in that first boss.

Someone could have slapped a heal on him if he was chain wrapped. It’s not like this is entirely new to three of you, you’ve done a timed run before!

By Baek on Thursday, April 9th, 2009 at 10:32 am

Really what this boils down to is the group has not run this with each other before. Yes Jeff and Zand seem pre-occupied with the meters, but that is more than likely just friendly pokes at each other as before when they were on the wrath Beta Jeff’s Paladin was typically at the bottom and now they are reversed as Jeff has figured his Paladin out.

All that aside, Jeff, Zand and Juggy have all run this, they are use to the tank already knowing what they need to do and where to go and getting there first so they can run in with all guns blazing. This isn’t the case with Lyle since he doesn’t know the instance. While I’m not saying that Drake runs r srs bzns, they aren’t trivial if you haven’t run it before and know what they mean by “flags on the mini map” and how the instance progresses/boss abilities.

I stick with my previous comment that they should have run it as a group on normal a couple times so that Lyle and Alex could get on the same page as Jeff Zand and Juggy. They probably would not have wiped (I’m still hanging onto the hope that Juggy Ankh’s and rezes Jeff and they both get the group back up and running and they can pick up the pace later on).

I heard some internet kids were talking trash so I had to come back…
    @ The Darkness
Whats the point of making a comment to my comment? If its realy bugging you why I said “you suck” then you need to go outside once in a while and talk to real people not just people in project lore boards.
    @Branderen
First of all branderen I said “you suck” not “U suk”. And yes I watched the video, who said i did not? You need a physciatrist if that realy bugged you. “and a good english teacher, learn how to spell you have damn spell check on your computer”

These guys are payed to make videos and play the game, yet they wipe on first boss, I found that funny, but yes it shows that they suck.

By anyomanus on Thursday, April 9th, 2009 at 1:12 pm

    @Skyler
if you hated them so much why not just ignore them this is gonna create more fighting
not that good of speller :D

By Nathan Harris on Thursday, April 9th, 2009 at 1:49 pm

Why is it that the WoW community always creates a catch 22 with the fanbase/websites? Watch the video, and enjoy what you get. We pay to play WoW, and we watch their videos for FREE. Get what you can, and don’t qq about it. Leave that for your guild forums.

For some reason my computer isn’t showing the window for the video at all. But from the general comments, it sounds like Lyle died and they all wiped. Who’s ever to expect to get the mount on their first try? Everyone has to have done it atleast once.

Now for the fact that people aren’t doing what their supposed to. Jeff probably could’ve used LoH on Lyle when he got low, but that’s not really his job to watch for that. For the fact that Jeff, Alex, and Zand are compairing and worrying about DPS, THAT’S ALL THEY HAVE! Tanks and Healers worry about a variety of stats, and alot of different type of gear. When they PvE they worry about what’s going around them. Just about all DPS just worry on SP/Agil/AP. Other than that, it’s just icing on the cake. When we PvE, all we do is usually /assist on the Tank. We have nothing else to do! So of course some of use are going to compair.

Meh,… that started turning into a rant.

But seriously, Just shut the fuck up and enjoy what you get free in life.

By sigh* on Thursday, April 9th, 2009 at 2:35 pm

It’s sad the only good player is the voice box…
I agree w/ skyler. I’ve never seen or even heard of anyone wiping on meathook…

U’all should really find a new tank, its obvious he doesn’t care anymore. And seriously, 2 hunters…. WTF is the point of that?! My guild had 3/4 hunters in every BT raid and now we bring 0 hunters to Wraith. Bring some diversity to the party, try new stuff.

This site was great in BC. Now it seems like they just dont care, but will take any perks. It used to be about the “lore” and the game. Now they think its about their personality. Honestly Alex is just annoying, Tank obviously doesn’t care, Dorkins is ok and Jeff is actually funny but its gone WAY downhill since goggins left.

PLEASE make it about the game again. Cause if you don’t you will lose all your fans older then 13 and anyone w/ some decent exp.

By tess on Thursday, April 9th, 2009 at 2:41 pm

There are some children out there that just don’t get it about PL. These guys are not professional WoW players, they are a group of regular guys who play WoW for our entertainment. They are entertainers who play WoW. There would be nothing more boring than perfect runs every time by a group of children who can only say, “you suck” when something goes wrong. They are obviously disappointed by the wipe, but there is no finger pointing by any of them. The team wins or loses as a team. A mature attitude you will never have to worry about.

By sigh* again on Thursday, April 9th, 2009 at 2:45 pm

Quote by Will “helpful comment would be to attack the same side of the boss and be arranged in a order for the healer to be able to easily heal but you guys are the experts”

Lol this is what I’m saying. He obviously doesn’t know that attacking from behind prevents melee from getting parry/block. There is a lot of young or inexperienced players who watch. And, for whatever reason, they think “you guys are the experts”. When in actuality if they think that is how experts play then they are going to learn how to be bad players.
In BC I would tell people to watch PL to learn how to run heroics instances w/ good strats/tips and proper play. Now it seems you’ve lost any interest in trying to teach/show lore and tips. U’all aren’t charming enough to keep a site up just on personality. GoodLuck though.

By Ok, but on Thursday, April 9th, 2009 at 2:54 pm

    @Tess

If that’s true then that is fine. But go back and look at Sethekk Halls or Mechanar. They were telling lore, while informing use of different strats while making it entertaining. Full runs in 3/4 episodes. I think people enjoyed all of that. Now they don’t prepare, just run and record. If they want to change how they do things then fine, that’s their prerogative. But they will lose a lot of their old fans.

All I have to say is i have wiped on the timed run before and still gotten the drake. It can be done don’t count it out just yet. Just balls to the wall the rest of the instance.

By Zaxxon on Thursday, April 9th, 2009 at 9:02 pm

That was very interesting, Every time I ran CoS heroics (6 or more times now) it was timed and every time we didn’t wipe and made it in time for the mount. I got the mount my first time btw YAY!! This instance is extremely easy and a little bit difficult to wipe on (depending on the dps). I was floored that you wiped on the first boss. That was very shocking.

    Zaxxon….

By FritzTheCat on Friday, April 10th, 2009 at 4:40 am

    Common misconception of troll posters here;
These are just dudes gettin’ together to run parties, in fact, I’d say they’re casual players. They invest plenty of time in the game, to be sure, but most players do - however, they have never been ‘hardcore’ or even ‘pro’ and thats what makes the show so charming. They’re having fun rather than working, and demonstrating the spirit in which WoW should be played.

Lyle needs a lot of work as a tank in general, as he still seems stuck in a BC style of warrior tanking. Nail the necromancer with Heroic Throw and THEN charge in! Meathook hits like a truck, blow those cooldowns as soon as it says he’s in frenzy the first time!

(I can’t help but comment what I see in the episodes, despite knowing they were filmed ages ago, and that in theory they’re better players now)

There is a lot to be said for running an instance with freinds. I have two friends I run around with regularly and the three of us have run things together and succeeded in instances where better geared 5 man teams should have struggled. So don’t knock the advantage of knowing those you run with.

With that being said Iran this my first time as the healer (holy paladin). I died on the first boss. Luckily the rest of the party lived and they were able to rez me and we continured. I remember running around like crazy. I didn’t have time to stop and drink I had to depend on Divne Plea and natural mana regen. Numerous times I BARELY got a Holy Shock off in time to save the tank as I ran into range from trying to loot the last group of mobs. The point of this is that we got to the drake boss and killed him with 5 seconds left on the clock. I was the only one in the group that didn’t have the drake so it was my prize. After it was all said and done the tank complimented me on my mana use and said she’d nvr seen a first time healer make it through that well. Anyway… Sorry for the long story but I felt it kinda related.
