Wow, you are REALLY awesome BRK. I’ve been doing it wrong, doh!
By Voldenmist on Sunday, March 8th, 2009 at 12:33 pm
First off….THANK YOU!!!
Thank you for finally showing people the right way to do it. And I hope and pray that your reputation preceeds yourself and that people will actually follow your example. In my long track of alts, I always come across hunters who want to melee; I try and try to tell them different stratgies that I developed or picked up on with my one true love (hunter), however most noobs never listen to me and most alties already think they know how to do it. They like to tell me things such as “well if it dies, it dies, why make killing a mob difficult? I try to explain it to them, but people see everything in retrospec, thus another huntard is born.
Great video, thx again and keep up the great work!
By Maribellis on Sunday, March 8th, 2009 at 12:34 pm
When i read the discprition i almost skipped this, man i’m glad i didn’t that was great and this guy is very entertaining. I really enjoyed it.

By ThoMage on Sunday, March 8th, 2009 at 1:43 pm
first i thought that this short alt movie was gonna be BOORING! but it was NOT!
Its BRK and he turns things around and make us do jump shots (world gamble, uuh!)
its so nice that you make people do it the right way, right from scratch

I <3 your voice
By WNxManiacMan on Sunday, March 8th, 2009 at 1:52 pm
Or “How to not be a huntard”.
Awsome made BRK. Just made my first hunter to check them out and try the moves. Teaching how to use a real pet probably teaches me how to use my feral wolfs properly on my shaman, so I’m excited to see the next ones.
By Madruck on Sunday, March 8th, 2009 at 2:33 pm
Fantastic Video. I just got an alt hunter to level 10 so I am looking forward to the rest the Videos

By Scott on Sunday, March 8th, 2009 at 4:04 pm
Dont get me wrong i love BRK and all that i think he is great but me not being a big hunter fan, i am afraid this site will become a hunter site, what with alex going to bowbins and now this. I hope this does not become true.
By kiley on Sunday, March 8th, 2009 at 4:04 pm
Another awesome video! i remember trying to start a hunter alt and just getting waaay to frustrated because i did realize how to utilize the hunter skills. Now i’m going to try again with much better results i’m positive
By kiley on Sunday, March 8th, 2009 at 4:05 pm
didn’t**
By Eventime on Sunday, March 8th, 2009 at 4:26 pm
Very cool video, and I’m excited to see more of them. A long while ago I made a hunter alt which ended up stopping at level 12, more because I started missing my main and “main” alt than not liking the character. The only technique I really used was the back up, but it’s very cool to see how you can start learning how to be a good hunter right from the start!
By Adrian on Sunday, March 8th, 2009 at 6:09 pm
So BRK, what do you do when you back up, strafe or jump shot straight into a group of aggro-ing baddies?
By Jedda on Sunday, March 8th, 2009 at 6:17 pm
I do appreciate the fact you took the time this video, this would be good for newbies but for all those who take this video to heart remember this: lvl 1-10 you can melee to save money on ammo (until a future patch fixes this) but also his mob pulls are against slower enemies. BRK failed to mention that eventually mobs get faster especially outside the starting areas. But by then you should have a pet and shouldn’t worry. Also there’s nothing wrong with having mobs at lvl 1-10 come melee you there is nothing wrong about not learning to straif or move away. Yeah it helps but really you don’t need to learn any of this stuff if you want to level faster.
By Pezwar on Sunday, March 8th, 2009 at 6:49 pm
@ Scott
Yeah, this’ll definitely become a Hunter site, what with theire Tanking 101 and Melee DPS 101 sections. How could I have missed that?
By Kathy on Sunday, March 8th, 2009 at 7:19 pm
Oh man this guy is fantastic!!!
When I made my hunter years ago I ran around hitting stuff with my little dagger
By Wrathcaller on Sunday, March 8th, 2009 at 8:00 pm
Hehe I love this guy
By Zaraken on Sunday, March 8th, 2009 at 10:24 pm
Once played an orc hunter to 70 over a year ago. While I never was a melee huntard I didn’t know the strafing button/move and didn’t do the jump one. Although I don’t exactly pull aggro since was BM and rarely pvp so wasn’t too big of deal.
Be interesting to see what other tips you have as the hunter progresses since I’m Alliance now I been thinking of playing a hunter again since its been change so much since then. Probably go dwarf and be willing to see what other corrections I can do to go from average to at least above average.
Look forward to the next hunter vid.
By Aramathis on Sunday, March 8th, 2009 at 10:37 pm
Nice vid BRK… Entertaining to say the least.
Keep it up!
By Trelli on Sunday, March 8th, 2009 at 11:24 pm
I loved the vid BRK!
But one thing… it seemed awfully familiar to your newbie hutner guides posted on your site…. down to the hair and everything…
But oh well! I love your voice and always stay up to date on your blog. You inspired me to be a hunter and strive to be top DPS and I’m never going back baby!
By Hatell on Sunday, March 8th, 2009 at 11:50 pm
On the one hunter I have, I use the backing up strat, didn’t think of the other two as a possibility. I’m going to send this to a couple of my friends who are always playing hunters but can’t seem to get them rolling good.
By Muted on Monday, March 9th, 2009 at 12:32 am
BRK is the man, i already watched your hunter tutorial on utube, as well as all your videos. I started a hunter from it and am already 75. <3 BRK
By Dulica on Monday, March 9th, 2009 at 5:45 am
that was really helpful..i’ve sent the link to all my hunter friends, so they can stop being called ‘huntards’.
By HAMMA_TIME! on Monday, March 9th, 2009 at 6:07 am
yeah… that good till you lvl up to 3… cuz u wont be able to do that in enemy teritory (agressive mobs)
By Omen on Monday, March 9th, 2009 at 7:02 am

that BigRedKitty is awesome , so charimatic and witty

@ Geoff
LOL seriously that tac is called kidding its something that u learn at lvl 1-80 lol i do it all the time on my lvl 8 hunter
I think you meant “Kiting”.
The important thing about jump shooting is that it’s the best way to kite mobs and other players in PvP.
Even specced as BM, some times you DO get aggro from your pet, and at that moment it is a good time to start keeping those mouse buttons down and start jumping.
Kiting becomes an necessity in PvP, as every melee class wants to come close and rape you, and you better keep the distance. You really can’t afford those warriors and rogues to come to melee range even for a few seconds (especialy retardins, as they can stun kill you with their mighty Divine Storm and Hammer of Justice paired with their 100% crit Judgement of Command).
But kiting has very low use in raids, the only one I know right now is the Gluth fight in Naxxramas, where it’s the hunters main job to kite the mean little zombies.
By Scourgem on Monday, March 9th, 2009 at 7:51 am
For the next episode i’m going to hope he doesn’t speak as if we’re all idiots. This video was a waste of time. If you actually need these kinds of videos, then you should probably go play another game.
By Zerbet on Monday, March 9th, 2009 at 8:49 am
Scourgem, it must be fantastic to be proficient in all things, always.
Thank god you’re humble about it, or you’d be at risk of becoming a giant dick.
By Belias on Monday, March 9th, 2009 at 10:11 am
Well…for all of you saying “you won’t be able to do this in agressive territory”, it’s obvious you will not! That’s why pets, traps and instant casts are there for. This is just a “starting” movie. Anyway, great piece of work! Perhaps some PVP’ing in the early future?
By Dibullba on Monday, March 9th, 2009 at 1:46 pm
I think ur line about how this will prevent u from becoming a huntard really sold the whole presentation lol. Hopefully u can give the same insight as too how to use a pet, because as we have seen with Dorkins and Jimmy he has on more than one ocassion shown his huntardness. (they are hilarious though)
By Dediare on Monday, March 9th, 2009 at 1:56 pm
Hmm i really thought that if you had at least one level 80 by now you would be able to roll a hunter… aparrently the word “huntard” still exsits even though i thought people would get it by now… hunters are baicly like every other class, BUT pets are alittle tricky for the new hunters. Thanks BRK although i dont know if it’ll improve the statis of hunters in my realm… theres probably just going to be more… and there probably going to be just as stupied as before lol.
By Micah on Monday, March 9th, 2009 at 3:11 pm
This guy should try to sell some shamwows but i just find this vid unnecessary i mean a lvl 1 hunter unless you aggro 4 mobs you can’t die you can play any way you want in the early lvls and still “Pwn shit up”
By Peter on Monday, March 9th, 2009 at 4:09 pm
I love BRK! These videos need to totally be included in the episode feed.
By dimac on Monday, March 9th, 2009 at 4:19 pm
Please Please Please have a word with some druid blogggers (grey matter perhaps) to see if they want to do a similar thing to this. i love PL but as a druid have always felt a little left out. i would love to see some druid based content

Is there any chance this will be added to the RSS feed?
By Josh on Monday, March 9th, 2009 at 4:54 pm
When I created my first character (hunter) I just assumed that was the way to plan. “Don’t get hurt, cause I’m wearing leather… Maybe I should keep moving?” It’s amazing to think that folks feel otherwise when playing a Hunter.
I’m all far PvP tuts for Hunters as I seem to have quite a time with getting ganked by Death Knights, Rogues and Paladins. Granted I’m in combat when they attack, and I have no stun resistance, but still… Gotta be something I can do.
By renato on Monday, March 9th, 2009 at 5:18 pm
can you teach me one form to level up? how lvl 55? and
for more money?
By Grimar on Monday, March 9th, 2009 at 5:40 pm
love it BRK, nice work showing the beginners the way to use your hunter to the full extent and show them how to use strafe and jumpshot from start
this will save many a hunter life, and even help those that want to go for the hunter epic quest since both you and me know that you will need all your skulle if you are to complete it, atleast if you want the challange and do it on 60 like the rest of us
By Hank on Monday, March 9th, 2009 at 7:59 pm
Like josh, I thought mobility comes natural to hunters.
Sure you can use kiting in agressive territory, just apply some situation awareness. You always work yourself into an area, thus leaving your back open for retreat. It’s not uncommon for pets to lose agro, fighting oranges or multiples. If you accidentally shoot first or your pet misses, you might want to move it, move it. I like to… move it.
I’m thrilled about getting BRK content at PL, love the enthusiasm in the vids.
By Ojimaru on Monday, March 9th, 2009 at 8:10 pm
I appreciate the video as it teaches newbies to the class some useful tips. But that “fake” (assumption) accent really grates on my nerves.
So please, if you’re gonna do more vids, take some tips from Dr Dorkins or don’t do it (accent) at all.
PS: This mojo needs more handsome Taurens. FOR THE HORDE!
By Danbor on Monday, March 9th, 2009 at 11:23 pm

Hi all, love the shows, great to watch fun and really enjoyable
I my self know also alot of the things i see but i do know the movies are also good for people who just started WoW and even for those who just didnt notice things or didnt see them yet.
Unlike some people think some things are for retards, i see its not only for the so godly skilled players out there that grew up in WoW since age 5… O_o
These guys do a really great job by showing how the game is, playing togetter in a group and show you around. Not all people play the game like some DIEHARD hardcore players out there. You had to start to as a newbie so please stop being a bad person and call names, dont watch if u dont like it and let people who do like it enjoy it. Thats why these people do it for the enjoyment for them not for you who knows all and not respect them for doing it for FREE.IF you can do what theses guys do and are so incredible skilled like them or even better then it be nice if you also add your 2 cents and help .. Ill bet thats to much to ask for, better to flame people who do something for fun for others. on a blog..
I really didnt want to flame but for months i see really disrespectful people out there who dont see these guys do it for fun and for free for people who do enjoy it..so excuse me for this. Have fun guys as allways, and keep them coming.

By mark on Friday, March 13th, 2009 at 9:05 am
wow no wonder i never got a hunter past level 5 cause i was using the melee weapon instead of the ranged -_-’ thank you brk for the tips i shall go play a hunter now
By cocopuff on Saturday, March 14th, 2009 at 9:20 am
i find that kiting enemies at level one is just a big waste yea it is true kiting is a vital skill if you wanto play a hunter i should no i have 73 from 1-10 i shot and melee it was much harder back when i started him before the BC it much easier now with all the improvements of the hunter abilitys and it worked well so if you wanto practice the whole kiting thing for higher fine i just dont think at low level tanking is taht big a deal its not that hard with all the dazes tehy have now
By cocopuff on Saturday, March 14th, 2009 at 9:23 am
so I guass this is the end of the acievement sagmentwhich kind of sucks
By Telarion on Sunday, March 15th, 2009 at 10:47 am
i usually never hit a mob with a melee weapon from level 1-10 or 1-12 when you get the slowing hit, by the way great video hope you will make more series ^^
By Malte on Sunday, March 15th, 2009 at 12:17 pm
First off I have to say that I really appreciate the work that you’re doing. My main character once I started getting into wow was a tauren hunter. That hunter did everything: quests, BGs, instances, the lot. I even managed to get him to 70 and then stopped. But through that adventure, I became extremely bored of him at times. I felt like I was doing the same thing over and over again, and until now I didn’t realize that I was playing him wrong. I had never tried to make sure that I was out of melee range. I had never tried to make sure that my pet got full agro. I had never tried to make sure that I was doing more than standing in one spot, drooling and shooting arrows/bullets. So now I started a new one. A night elf hunter. And I have to say, all of the quests that I found difficult in the NE starting zone on my druid (when I first started wow) are MUCH easier now on my hunter. I’m playing it like you show here in the video, I’m growing out of the huntard-itude and I’m LOVING it. I’ve not experienced this much fun with a character in a long long time. So thanks for reinvigorating that feeling and for the advice. I’ve already reached level 8 in no time, and I hope to level and grow and keep up with your videos. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing how I can improve more, especially once I get a pet.
If you’re on executus, BRK, feel free to whisper malte.
Peace

LOVE These videos, they are what got me to attempt a hunter again. For years I’d get bored with the hunter because it felt like a wannabe tank…boy was I a Huntard!
Gotta question that I’ve yet to see answered in the videos. How do you use these tips in close spaces? Outside, I was using each tip to it’s fullest, yet as soon as I got into the troll cave (playing a dwarf as well) I ended up having to switch to melee
By Viggo Clausen on Monday, March 30th, 2009 at 2:34 pm

By hachelin on Saturday, May 9th, 2009 at 3:21 pm
do you need tobe BM or not ?
By porcupyne on Thursday, June 4th, 2009 at 3:09 am
following these tips will really make you a ‘huntard’. here’s why…
the main weapon of a hunter is a ranged weapon, but, it is far from the only, or even main, weapon. as early as level 10, you get a pet…and a pet, changes the class entirely. you won’t have to worry about anything in these series of videos because the pet will be drawing argo most of the time (more or less depending on the type of pet are currently using). because your pet has agro, all this jumping and turning is really quite pointless in pve. in pvp, jumping and turning might have some advantage against certain classes…which brings me to another point.
a hunter is not only physical ranged damage, nor only pets. there is another aspect of hunters…survival. all hunters get access to traps. but, if you followed these series of videos, you’d never use them. quick quiz. if you have more than 2 targets, which is the better trap to use? freezing or frost trap? the answer is frost because, unlike freezing, it allows you to affect multiple targets. a freezing trap can be broken with someone in your group hitting the target, your pet hitting it, or even your own auto shot…thus, wasting your trap. this is the kinda stuff you learn from not kiting.
by the way, did they mention that kiting is one of the slowest forms of levelling? sure, it’s safe, but definately not the fastest. if you are jumping and moving around, it makes it a bit difficult to trap something with an explosive or immolation trap doesn’t it? the extra damage from those traps will have you take things out faster.
speaking of faster. another overlooked thing is a hunter’s melee ability and how important it is to our mana. you may be puzzling over this, but there is a reason why these two are tied together. people usually use aspect ofthe viper out of combat, like running around from place to place, something out of combat, but if they read the tooltip carefully, they would see that it causes “ranged and melee attacks to regenerate mana”. how does this fit in with melee? well, your ranged weapon is slow, but daggers are fast. i’ve noticed that each hit regens mana, and critical hits regenerate even more mana. this translates into fully mana after about 2-3 mobs. time yourself and see how fast you fill up your mana just by using viper without melee’ing. really? why worry about melee’ing the first place…as if yer fighting without a pet. if you want to refill your mana faster (and in turn, get back to using your shots faster), you melee with aspect of the viper…why have dual wield, aspect of the viper, or traps if you’re not gonna use it. it’s as if the designers of the game are trying to tell you something
if you’re thinking this technique has use in pvp, forget about it. every class has a counter to this. warriors cang charge right into you. dk’s can pull you, warlocks and priests can fear, shamans can shapeshift to whatever’s handy, mages blink, rogues disappear and pop up behind you, hunters fear your pet, and everyone can run into your range. don’t think that jumping and turning or running in some really wide circles will help you much. these tactics have very limited uses in pve even. the conditions have to be near perfect in order to use the jump and turn technique.
i knew htere was something i forgot. defense…if you are using this technique, you’ll never get hit. “that’s the point” someone of you may say…but, at the same time, you won’t level your defense stat as fast as the other ‘huntards’ who do happen to melee. when you do get hit (which every does), you are obviously less likely to dodge, parry, or block any hits because you didn’t work on your defense. defense is probably the hardest thing to work on because your pet takes too much agro and at the same time, if you fight without your pet, you take too much of a beating. the simple way to remedy this is just to attack first. when you attack first, they will attack you back, then you pet then rush in and will draw agro…but at least the mob will get one hit on you. sending your pet in first will always keep you from getting hit, which is bad in the long term.
don’t get me wrong…i think most of this information and techniques are helpful, but situational. in the case of jumping and turning…very sitautional. try doing that in an area (most places outside of newbie zones) full of reds and i’ll show you one dead kiter. but, don’t take my word for it…watch the rest of the videos and see how the hunter(s) in these videos do it. do you see them jumping around and running in circles?
