Who Are You Getting To Level 80?

Decisions, Decisions...My fellow blogger Bastosa recently posted a nice article on the grind to level 80. It will be interesting to see how well the 5-man instancing team sticks together. From my previous experiences, running with a group of friends over and over caused us to become a bit competitive.   One evening, we called it a night after a few productive hours of grinding XP.   Well, we woke up to see that our Mage had stayed up all night to get three levels higher.  It wouldn’t have been the end of the world if he wasn’t six levels higher than the lowest person, and refused to come back and help us. The Mage’s overly competitive nature basically killed our group.

Bastosa’s logic – that a group leveling together in instances should create skilled raiders down the road - is sound nonetheless and I hope it works out for them. For me, I will be going the same route as a few of the commentators, questing and exploration. Here is the major difference though, I will be leveling my newly acquired level 59.99 Priest instead of my faithful Rogue.

Thanks to the Refer-A-Friend benefits, my buddy and I managed to level up a new set of alts to level 59.99 in under three days playtime. For the moment, we are both enjoying our never-before-played class and do not feel like stopping. By the time Wrath of the Lich King drops on November 13th, my new Priest should be 70.  At that time I hope to have enough experience under my belt as a healer – yes, also my first healbot - to begin healing in all of the new 5-man instances. Heck, if all goes well and I ding 70 with time to spare, I will probably start a tank on that server.  People always need a tank.  We have to burn those extras hand me down levels somehow.

This isn’t to say that I am abandoning my Rogue. I have been roguing since day 1 and have no intention of stopping. Yes, there have been ups and down through that time. Rogues were overpowered to begin with, causing us to be nerfed left and right. C’Thun was incredibly annoying as a dagger Rogue.  Gruul is just annoying, and I still have little group utility (that will change with the Echoes of Doom patch). It would be nice to say that I will try to co-level the characters on my main server.  Trading back and forth to get the most benefit from Rested XP, but honestly, that is just a pipe dream.

So what about you guys? Sticking with your main? Taking this opportunity to switch your main? Re-rolling Death Knight?  Or experiencing the new content with an alt first?

Bastosa, best of luck to you and your group. Be sure to update us when you ding level 75. I can’t wait to do the Heigan dance again – the pull to him…not so much.

i’ll probably level my main and my alt => warrior and druid… dunno maybe simultaneously or first one and after the second … haven’t really decided yet :)

By Drakíra on Friday, October 3rd, 2008 at 9:02 am

I’m so rolling Death knight, i have a 70 rogue but it’s not so fun to play and the dk’s seems awesome.

By logan on Friday, October 3rd, 2008 at 9:02 am

haha me and my friends are currently lvling alts wit RaF too, it like paying 20 bucks for a lvl 60. project lore rocks i use the cobra saying all the time on my hunter

By Zearha on Friday, October 3rd, 2008 at 9:08 am

Im going to lv my 3 70 (a Gnome Rogue Dwarf Warrior and a Undead Mage) first than i will hit up the new Death Knight class. I really not going to put to much time into my main Rogue at the start because i like to wait for all the nerfing and rogue hating to stop. Stuff like Ambush needs to be nerfed or something like that as im sure is going to happen. With the new Shadow dance and Killing Spree rogues will be OP

By Ivailo Minkov on Friday, October 3rd, 2008 at 9:39 am

My main Ally Rogue (Galdriel in Doomhammer) and my main Horde Warrior (Deathhell in Deathwing). Latter on i’ll try (maybe) Death Knight or lvl up horde mage.

By cløne of Baelgun on Friday, October 3rd, 2008 at 9:50 am

My lvl 64 shadow priest. In the beta they have been nerfed a bit DPS wise and they are no longer the only Mana battery, but I love playing the SP over my lvl 70 holy any day.

By grillbar on Friday, October 3rd, 2008 at 10:01 am

ill lvl my main, play a little death knight see some content and quit wow mayb for ever. BUUUT lets see if the content are really interesting or fun then it may take me some time before i quit wow

By Will on Friday, October 3rd, 2008 at 10:20 am

I’m pretty sure I’ll roll my DK, probably play him a bit, but mostly I’m going to play my Dwarf Paladin. There’s a lot of love built up there. I may well level my Blood Elf Paladin to 80 as well before I really get into a DK.

Yes. I have both. Sue me, I like Paladins.

I don’t have any other toons in Lich King range. Anyone else will have to come later.

By Bastosa on Friday, October 3rd, 2008 at 10:24 am

Thanks for the commentary! Your point is well taken, and probably my #1 concern. People leveling on the side and outleveling the rest of the group could provide some major complications.

This happened to me to a lesser extent when leveling to 70. I had a 3-man team that quested together. Eventually the hunter in our group began to out-level the other two. Fortunately for us he was nice enough to always come back and even request to help us along!

I’ll be sure to update you as to how my plan goes. For me I know I will be leveling my Paladin first, he is, and I believe will always be my main. The rogue will be the second one to 80 then I will have to decide if I want to go Death Knight or Druid.

By BG on Friday, October 3rd, 2008 at 10:27 am

Gonna level my huntard through questing and some 5-man content, but my Prot Warrior will be leveled almost exclusively through 5-man and raids. My sord rouge may get left behind for a while while I bring up the CoH Priest and roll a DK.

Can’t wait, 6 weeks to go!!!

By Russ on Friday, October 3rd, 2008 at 10:35 am

I think I will level my enhancement orc shaman first to 80, then probably roll a DK and try to simultaneously level him and my hunter. Eventually I will get around to my mage and warrior, but they are lower priorities :)

By pctjuh on Friday, October 3rd, 2008 at 10:35 am

i think i’m going to explore northrend with my main doing some instances lvling up till 80 then i make death knight i guess and train him higher but dont make him a main

By Luuk on Friday, October 3rd, 2008 at 11:00 am

When WoW first came out I made a Paladin because I loved the Idea and lore behind Paladins from Warcraft 3. Giant hammer wielding, holy light throwing and general ass kicking. But like so many days the sun set on my dream of kicking asses when I was forced to heal in the back of raids through the entire duration of Vanilla WoW.

I still had fun and I even got Sulfuras Hand of Ragnaros (which is still one of the best looking weapons in game) to do some damage outside of raids. Back then you could pwn inside and outside of raids with paladins because Holy shock sucked and a holy/ret build was very feasible.

Come TBC I switched to a Shaman(dreanei) because my guild needed it. The guild fell apart and so did my raiding. Until a few months ago that is.

Level a Spriest and raided the crap out of everything. With WotLK making Ret Paladins a viable spec inside and outside of raiding, I can hear the drums of war from inside my heart beating my adrenalin to the point of vicious and righteous SLAUGHTER!

You might say that because I take pleasure in murdering thousands in the name of something called “the light” might make me a psycho. And you’d be absolutely correct.

By Martyn on Friday, October 3rd, 2008 at 11:27 am

My main has been from day one a Feral Druid, until i got to raiding and decided to give up tanking and respec’d Resto… but i decided that i’d like to be able to be taken along to a raid as DPS so i re-rolled a Warlock recently and been gearing that up now that its lvl 70 for quicker leveling upon release of LK.

My plan is to level my warlock first and start raiding as dps, then to respec my druid Feral and again work my way towards lvl 80, upon which respec to resto again and heal in raids and once those 2 are at a suitable stage im going to spec a DK and level him up to be my Tanking alt, so that when the time comes i’ll never be more then 1 relog away from whatever class is needed in said raid.

By Humogil on Friday, October 3rd, 2008 at 11:38 am

I’m leveling an Alt. Shaman, as healer later on at 80, my Main is a rogue. And when lich comes I will level it first, then Shaman, THEN a death knight. Because it will be DK’s everywhere when lich comes.

By sonicsymphonia on Friday, October 3rd, 2008 at 11:59 am

I’m going to level my main, a Troll Shaman (shammys ftw!), to 80 first and then my alt, an Undead Rogue, and then my other alt, a Blood Elf Paladin, before making my Death Knight (Blood spec of course) and getting him to 80.

By Jake on Friday, October 3rd, 2008 at 12:18 pm

great post, think i’ll be leveling my alt mage who level 40ish to 70 while i have the chance to and forgeting about my warrior for a while as prot warriors are common as flies on my server and its irritating how little gear drops we get, with DK’s coming i bet it gets even worse too.
who knows though by the time wotlk is out i may not have got the mage to 70 or may just have got sick of it

DK’s dont look like an attractive class to me, will at some point try it but another melee class probably isnt for me.
and there going to be a dime a dozen i think

By Scott on Friday, October 3rd, 2008 at 12:46 pm

I will me leveling my main Gnome mage, and then probably on my death knight, and afetr tht my undead warlock tht i hope to have at 65ish by wotlk.
Got a shadow priest, rogue and druid all wating in line as well

By Conxcore on Friday, October 3rd, 2008 at 12:56 pm

    My original plan was
-level my gnome mage to 70
    -get my epic flyers
    -level up other alts

dude to some rl stuff, my mage won’t be 70 by then so my new plan is to just farm gold on my main holy pally, get him to 80 with LK and we’ll see what happens from there.

Id probabbly lvl up my 70 hunter to 80 as fast as i can, love to have a devilsuar pet! Ill probabbly just wait a while to try a Death Knight because when WOTLK comes out, a good amount of people are gonna be makeing Death Knights and it will be a bit to crowded.

By Alayea on Friday, October 3rd, 2008 at 1:08 pm

For the grind to level 80, I’m looking at my main — my username has her link — and my level 67 hunter alt. I plan on reaching lvl. 74 before going back and leveling up my 23 shadow priest and 21 fury warrior. I’m not even looking at doing the death knight class because a) I’m stretched all over the place whatwith having only one breadwinner, and b) I don’t have the advantage of power leveling since I share a WoW account with my twin.

I think I feel my stress level beginning to rise already… :HALUC:

By TreborSL on Friday, October 3rd, 2008 at 1:24 pm

My Nightelf Hunter who is on the verge of reaching 70. ::mutters about reaching 70 just in time to start grinding all over ::

By Red on Friday, October 3rd, 2008 at 1:29 pm

My lvl 70 Belf rogue is first. I just want to gank alot of the new wrath players while I lvl as well. Rogue = <3

Then my 70 human pally. The ret spec is supposed to get a boost so that should be interesting. Though hes gunna get some rest while i reach that 80 mark and get some good gear.

By Eventime on Friday, October 3rd, 2008 at 1:34 pm

My main is my pally Eventime on Hydraxis who I’m definitely gonna get to 80. Whether I keep him ret or change him to prot I’m not sure, because at some point I wanna make a DK and see what it’s like. Also I’ve been leveling a shaman alt which is 46 right now, and I’d like to have him at least ready for Outlands by the time Lich King comes out. He’ll be my healer, then pally and DK will be dps/tank, but not sure which will be which yet.

By Kaenne on Friday, October 3rd, 2008 at 1:39 pm

im rolling DK i have a lvl 70 hunter and 9 druid ( yes he low lvl i dont play him a lot) but ill be rested xp switching with my DK and hunter

our seperate ways at around lvl54ish and ended up having fun together at 70

By Tim on Friday, October 3rd, 2008 at 2:56 pm

I’d really like to roll a Death Knight, but I’m making myself wait until the huge Death Knight influx is over.

By lishuss on Friday, October 3rd, 2008 at 3:41 pm

im waiting til i get my main(rogue on the scryers of same name) to 80 before i deal with the new class probably. knowing me, by the time thats done, there will be a lot less dks out and running by then

    i am a slooooooooooow leveler

By Dan on Friday, October 3rd, 2008 at 4:50 pm

Leveling my main(Hunter) with my guild in 5-mans I think. If I get my priest to 70 before expansion I may switch that to be my main and roll from there.

By Drogheda on Friday, October 3rd, 2008 at 5:15 pm

I originally rolled a Troll Rogue… lvled her to 46, then my guild needed a dedicated healer. So I rolled a BE Priest, and fell in love with her. Grinded her to 70 (with a little help from my friends) and have been playing her ever since. I’m taking the time before the expac to go back and level my rogue. I think I needed the 6 month break from her to come back and appreciate her more.

I plan on lvling them both along with other guildmates in a combination of Quests and Instances. I’m a raider at heart, and want to enjoy all of the instances available in the expac! As for rolling a DK? I’ll leave that to other guildmates, until everyone ISN’T rolling them as frequently.

    osku/lilosku shuhalo

By Gilnid on Friday, October 3rd, 2008 at 5:22 pm

I will level my lovely main, my horribly human mage. Yes, I now have many alts at 70 (5 to be exact) but none can match good ol’ Gilnid.

By Steve on Friday, October 3rd, 2008 at 5:25 pm

I’ll probably level my warrior to 80 first, if he is 70 in time for wrath (should be, he’s 37.5 right now) And then my hunter, then a death knight. 3 80s will be enough for me, I know some of my more hardcore friends are going to have a server completely filled with 80s after they make a death knight.

By chris on Friday, October 3rd, 2008 at 8:27 pm

i’m goona level my lock up then level my hunter up. after that iplan to roll a DK and make him a god of PvP. and i might make a gnome mage after that.

By Jakethesnake on Friday, October 3rd, 2008 at 8:57 pm

I was going to level my warlock then decided to level my hunter. Now I am between leveling a death knight or juts quitting the game. I think I’m going with the latter but we’ll see.

By Uesegi on Friday, October 3rd, 2008 at 9:23 pm

Im gonna lvl my Blood Elf Warlock to 80 first, and maybe do some Death Knight on the side to get more “rested” xp.
Im gonna need my DK anyway, so i can get inscription, for my Tailoring/Enchanting lock.

By Chaosmage on Friday, October 3rd, 2008 at 9:36 pm

I’m Gonna Level My Main First *70 Arcane/Frost Ally Mage* then probably my Alt *66 Combat Swords Ally Rogue* Then after all the DK hype and abuse i’ll start one of those =]

By Josh on Friday, October 3rd, 2008 at 10:36 pm

For the longest time on Akama horde I only had a 70 resto shaman and a 70 combat swords rogue, but decided recently I wanted to get a few more 70s for wotlk…

I didn’t have refer a friend but I managed to get a 70 hunter and 70 warrior as well…. I haven’t tanked since my first alliance character back on onyxia… so I’m more dps than anything.

As it stands now I don’t know what I’ll level, probably the shaman or the warrior - though personally i’m unhappy with shaman talent trees. Titans grip - the reason I made the warrior, is also slightly depressing with its newest changes.

I guess it will all depend on what I’m feeling at the time, or perhaps I’ll take it easy and just level all four when they’re rested and work on a different one each day. Time will tell.

By Manse on Saturday, October 4th, 2008 at 3:26 am

I will be levelling my restoration shaman (horde) as he was my first ever character almost 3 years ago, cant wait to see what WOTLK can offer my shaman in terms of more healing and new spells.

By Kevin on Saturday, October 4th, 2008 at 7:31 am

I want to try playing mages then lvl up a death knight, I personally loved mages since day 1 and I haven’t had the time to lvl an alt because of school

By Felaryn on Saturday, October 4th, 2008 at 11:59 am

I’m going to start off leveling a Death Knight, mainly because everyone else is going to be putting it off to wait until the “Hundreds of people” finish. If everyone on my server is thinking that, then there probably wont really be hundreds of people, because they’ll all be waiting for something that isn’t there. After that, I’m gonna just work on tailoring and probably ignore my hunter until I get the magic carpet from tailoring.

Currently lving a prot pally and the original plan was to have him be first to 80. Although after so many lvs and bad pugs already I probably put him on hold to lv a death knight to 80 first since they seem capable of dpsing quite well at same time while still being able to tank.

By Togarox on Sunday, October 5th, 2008 at 1:13 am

Starting a Deathknight, playing it till I get bored, then hopping on my druid and exploring Northrend. Can’t wait!

By Dalannar on Sunday, October 5th, 2008 at 2:25 am

First i’m going to lvl my main char atm , a human mage (currently pvp) to 80. Haven’t decided yet if i’m going to get him to pvp or pve.

After, i’m probably going to make a DK, mainly because its a new class.

And then, my first ever char, the old orc warlock, that i made after seeing the old school drakdog movies. He’s currently a full green and blue, because, after a week i dinged 70, me and my friends rerolled allience -_- (but thanks to that i now have a super IMBA mage :P ).

By Arizor on Sunday, October 5th, 2008 at 3:22 am

Im going to level my Balance Druid main to 80 1st.
For some reason people always choose them second =/. I know you’ll choose a DK over a druid once you’ve leveled your rogue Bastosa ;P, just becuase they’ll be the new class and totally untapped.
Ill prob roll a DK as soon as i install LK (like many thousands of others will lol) but wont level him very far at first.
I also have a rogue alt thats in his 50s atm so ill hopefully get him to 70 before LK =)? It seems rogues are just the perfect 2nd-to-70 alt for loads of people…

By asassinator on Sunday, October 5th, 2008 at 11:22 am

i dont know what im gonna do yet prolly gonna lvl my 3 70’s to 80 and then gonna make a DK due to the fact my server is going to be overrun by DK’s at the beginning

By ThoMage on Sunday, October 5th, 2008 at 11:25 am

I think ill just lvl my Mage… my first to hit 60, 70 and probs 80 too… i feel like mages are getting scrampled every time a bridge patch hits… so iam enjoying finding new specs and ill probs just level my mage… maybe my lock or pally afterwards

By Dreadbane on Sunday, October 5th, 2008 at 12:29 pm

I’m definitelly trying out Metamorphosis on warlock first - after that my warrior is going next.

By Rastendhos on Sunday, October 5th, 2008 at 12:56 pm

I ll level up my hunter =) And wanted to find out what DK have to offer too… But anyways i ll just check dk out (maybe make 1 - 2 levels) and ll level up my hunter… maybe when my hunter ll be 80 i ll level up DK or my alt draenei Priest (70)

By Axel on Sunday, October 5th, 2008 at 1:31 pm

Im going to lvl my main hunter troll to 80 and get a nice fresh start with PVE and try to be one of the first on the server to down high end bosses. After that i will lvl a DK, but im not shure tho.

By Afroman on Sunday, October 5th, 2008 at 10:32 pm

I’m rollin out my DK. Screw my 70’s.

By dac on Monday, October 6th, 2008 at 7:48 pm

well i was playing hunters for a year and a half but the at the start of spet. i rolled a dwarf warroir(lvl 45 atm) and will be taking him to 80. and my friend will hopeing be useing RAF soon.

By Velithil on Monday, October 6th, 2008 at 10:13 pm

My first toon to 80 will probably be my Hunter. Fallowed very closely by my Holy priest (who was my first 70). My priest lvled with a Prot pally and even when the pally (who was 20 lvls behind my priest when we started) got higher. She always came and helped me out. Now with the expansion so close we are planning to lvl the two together and when a time comes that I want to keep playing, I will just switch to my hunter and go nuts.

Probably take my first and most loved toon, my Tauren Hunter to 80 first. then my Draenei warrior.. I want to make a DK for dps purposes… And also level a paladin for healing, so basically I can cover all the roles. You know, be the guy to go to.

    I got 3 lvl 70’s ( NE Hunter,NE Druid and a Dwarf Rogue)

My hunter has been my main since day 1, i like it the most of every class. But i’m going to roll a deathknight. Because they are unique, we all know the other classes by now and they are so different. So: DEATHLKNIGHT, ALL THE WAY!
