The Craft of War: BLIND

There is a lot of machinima out there that makes me giggle, some of it makes me think about how they have captured the footage and woven it together, and a few make me think about the mad skills that the people responsible must have.

The following video blew my mind. Moreso than any WoW animation I’ve seen, including the Wrathgate cutscene. A reader named Len sent the link to us and I hope that its creator, percula, continues to make these things because I loved this one. Watch this.

naijs, more than wrathgate indeed, especially because wrathgate was like a ripoff from lord of the rings

By Frank on Monday, December 29th, 2008 at 5:33 pm

yeah i first seen this from wowmovies.com. The creator used the wow models and animated them him/herself. I heard there will be a sequel based on other class’s skill (this one is obviously rogue’s blind). Really looking forward to it.

i have seen this video on another wow site and it just blew my mind hope there more videos on other classes and a BLIND 2

By Overshot on Monday, December 29th, 2008 at 5:36 pm

I’ve always been interested in Machinima, but that was amazing…Usually WoW machinima is more like “Make love not warcraft”. This movie actually uses custom animations and just took the models from the game and put them in. It must of taken a long time for a single person or even a group of people to put that together.

    5/5

By Mark DeMan on Monday, December 29th, 2008 at 5:43 pm

I read that the creator was nervous about releasing this work to the general public and that his/her company was considering Layoffs, so he/she was not sure when they would produce a new one.

One person did this in their spare time!

I can only say that this has to be considered as one of the greatest works of machinima I have ever seen and I have seen a lot.

The bar has been raised and I have to say that I would hope that Blizz gets their hands on this person soon and PAYS him/her to make a series of videos!

Project Lore should try and be his Manager!! :)

By Deidare on Monday, December 29th, 2008 at 5:56 pm

I already saw this movie and i have to say, BEST (short) WOW movie ive seen in a long time! The way the rouges jump and slash at eachother and then when the one uhh, human chick grew dragon wings was pretty sweet (and that chick not here anymore so i dont remember here name). The music was good too i like it and how all the gaurds chased after her. Very epic, very good.

    Turalyon (normal)
PROT warrior : for the horde!
    For the foresaken!

This one is a mindblowing video! The moves, the sounds they’re all great. It contains a bit of lore too: http://www.wowhead.com/?npc=1749

that song was terrible. Otherwise cool.

By Owaka on Monday, December 29th, 2008 at 8:05 pm

i bet as he will read the coments here on PLore so.. just want to say.. AWESOME work bro… really.. best game clip ever saw. for real. congratulations.

By Laeltis on Monday, December 29th, 2008 at 9:24 pm

That was great. It could easily have a series with it. I saw alot of opening opportunities for story plots. The love/rivalry between those two rogues, and what she had against that Alliance woman. Overall, it was great. New twist of machinima. Combat was really cool, but the music really gave it a blow of rate.

    4.5/5 due to music

By Roi on Monday, December 29th, 2008 at 9:37 pm

Btw Deidare, that female priest as seen in the video was Onyxia, hence growing dragon wings. I don’t remember her name as in a human form, but she isn’t there anymore for the fact that she was slain (although you can still raid her dungeon and battle Onyxia) and her head lies above the Stormwind. :000
    Awesome videooo. O_o

By Sidias on Monday, December 29th, 2008 at 9:59 pm

Not into machinima at all but this was actually quite entertaining. To say the music left something to be desired would be a huge understatement.

By Dieoxide on Tuesday, December 30th, 2008 at 1:25 am

Wow, that was really good. That was the best machinima I have ever seen. Props to Percula. If there was an achievement for this, it would be:

    Feat of Strength:
Greatest Machinima of 2008 (Or whenever he/she released it)

By Eugen on Tuesday, December 30th, 2008 at 4:28 am

Awsome … absolutely awesome …. Left me speechless…

By Farsythe on Tuesday, December 30th, 2008 at 5:44 am

Wow…that really blew me away…awesome is all i can say.
I hope there will be many more like it!

By Pal on Tuesday, December 30th, 2008 at 6:06 am

Awsome video. really cool and spectacular

By Azurko on Tuesday, December 30th, 2008 at 6:46 am

Yeah, I’m with everyone else on the music. It really took away from the awe of the video. I almost expected to see a band scene like the “I Am Murloc!” video.

-Gnome, the other OTHER white meat.

By Alayea on Tuesday, December 30th, 2008 at 9:21 am

I have to agree on the music. It really took away from what was otherwise a great video.

By mcb172 on Tuesday, December 30th, 2008 at 9:39 am

oh my frikkin god that was incredible, music was ok tho,
    other than that awesome vid

By Jondare on Tuesday, December 30th, 2008 at 11:25 am

great video!! not sure if this or the “ugly goblin’s Christmas” is my favorite though…

p.s. am i the onlyone who liked the music?

By Jordy on Tuesday, December 30th, 2008 at 11:38 am

    Good video, terrible song throughout.

By Kalcifer on Tuesday, December 30th, 2008 at 12:01 pm

WOW! That was brilliant! i can’t wait for the next one. I really really want to see what other class skills they use as inspiration for the next one. Eye of Kilrogg the Movie perhaps :)

By Kaiou on Tuesday, December 30th, 2008 at 2:31 pm

Actually I personally didn’t mind the music. You could ask ten people which music they would use for the movie and you would, probably, get ten different answers.

It’s good to see you guys really do read what people send you, though I didn’t expect you guys to use my real name in the piece. :P

Cheers, and happy ‘09 in advance.

By Grant on Tuesday, December 30th, 2008 at 3:08 pm

Oh yeah I saw this my friend was talking about it really awesome video :)

By PatrickD on Tuesday, December 30th, 2008 at 4:05 pm

Amazing. Absolutely amazing. I am in awe.

Everyone else who is doing machinima should either go into hiding until they can learn these skills or they should quit. The bar has been raised quite a bit higher than it ever was before…and even higher than most of what Blizzard has done themselves.

If Blizzard does not track down the people responsible to offer them well-paying jobs, then they are idiots.

By Steven on Tuesday, December 30th, 2008 at 4:24 pm

OMFG that was awesome best i have seen great i dont mind the music but all in all 9.6 out of 10

By Cresdeegan on Tuesday, December 30th, 2008 at 5:35 pm

Killer Vid, I didn’t think the music was that bad.. lol

By Amidaman on Tuesday, December 30th, 2008 at 5:39 pm

what id like to know is what sword models those are

By Steven Harris on Tuesday, December 30th, 2008 at 7:45 pm

Hated the music. I found it very distracting. Didn’t really mesh with the video, in my opinion.

By Sicari on Tuesday, December 30th, 2008 at 9:13 pm

    Now that was hella sexy.

By Torley on Wednesday, December 31st, 2008 at 12:20 am

Amazing # of views on Vimeo. Almost YouTube-level. ;) I hardly see that many comments and discussion!

By mkp on Wednesday, December 31st, 2008 at 1:07 am

    lame wow

By Tan The Man on Wednesday, December 31st, 2008 at 1:27 am

The direction and editing are top-notch. The music, however, sucked and didn’t fit right at all…

By Joe the Roto on Wednesday, December 31st, 2008 at 1:34 am

This isn’t actually machinima, since it doesn’t use the game engine to render the animation. It uses the models only, which were animated and rendered in a separate program.

    Plus, it’s pretty lame…

By Ghazan on Wednesday, December 31st, 2008 at 6:20 am

    1 word…..AWESOME!!!!
i personally dont like that kond of music but with this video i works it brings mystiic to the female assasin and gives you the idea that shes the haro and doing the right thing…(well she was trying to kill onyxia :P) hope more are made…
and thank you juggy for posting this :) PS. sry for long post

By Ghazan on Wednesday, December 31st, 2008 at 6:22 am

sry i suck at writing and sry for double post but here are corrections in order: “Kind of music” “video it works” “shes the hero” againg sry

By nickyjean on Wednesday, December 31st, 2008 at 8:31 am

That was utterly awesome. At first the music did seem a bit much but before even the middle of the vid I was bobbing my head to it and love it alot. That’s how I felt about The Peirces the first time I heard them and now I can’t stop listening to them.

This person deserves a lucritive (did I spell that right?) carreer after this vid. It should open up many doors for this person. Good Luck to you.

By Pudie on Wednesday, December 31st, 2008 at 9:43 am

It’s no Tales of the Past, and I find all the praise to be a bit much. But still really good, and better then most other machinima out there.

By Seveer on Wednesday, December 31st, 2008 at 11:00 am

    just……er………Awesome, nuff said

By Alex on Wednesday, December 31st, 2008 at 12:07 pm

That was incredible. Without the custom animations, this still would have taken forever. Whoever made this should be payed, or even hired by Blizzard. They could do wonders for the cinematics department (they’re good, but this machinima artist is better than a whole team).

By Robshocka on Wednesday, December 31st, 2008 at 2:25 pm

I thought it was a great video over all, I was blow away.

Some people take issue with the music choice. I am not sure why. It was an interesting tune and not stereotypical for an action scene. But I guess unless you play the MK or matrix themes people aren’t going to be happy.

By CrazyAlaskan on Wednesday, December 31st, 2008 at 2:58 pm

Does anyone know what programs were used to make this video?

By O'Neill on Friday, January 2nd, 2009 at 12:21 am

    @Robshocka

Agreed, and if you go to the authors Vimeo page were they uploaded it, they even explain that the music was a major reason to the theme of the video.

By gao zhi on Friday, January 2nd, 2009 at 4:47 am

    I love this vedio

By Moklavea on Friday, January 2nd, 2009 at 7:05 am

Nice video ! , nice song too.

what’s name the song plz? :p

By O'Neill on Friday, January 2nd, 2009 at 5:13 pm

    @Moklavea

I am really sorry, I just have to point and laugh at people like you. It says right at the end of the video. Either spend the time to watch the last second of the video (not the trailer to blind 2) or translate this. 安室奈美恵を隠す&シーク

By O'Neill on Friday, January 2nd, 2009 at 5:15 pm

Use Google Translator it works better (just a hint)

By Veradux on Saturday, January 3rd, 2009 at 9:13 pm

For those who don’t know it: The allaince women is Lady Onixyea , a dragon that plans against stormwind in disguise, the bloodelf, was her mother. The Humen, Leader of the SI:7 or watchacallit.

By Balkri on Sunday, January 4th, 2009 at 7:44 pm

This really makes me wish the combat in WoW was that involved rather than just “I hit you, you hit me.”

By Xanthe on Monday, January 5th, 2009 at 2:42 am

The Woman is actually Lady Katrana Prestor, Not Lady Onyxia.

By JMarc on Thursday, January 8th, 2009 at 11:23 pm

    Same thing.

Also, the song was called ‘Hide and Seek’ pretty straight on considering…you know…a fucking assassin is in SW while the townsfolk try to find her. >.>

By Oniyaki on Tuesday, January 13th, 2009 at 10:01 am

What tool do you need to get custom animations like that with WoW models?

By Richard on Thursday, January 22nd, 2009 at 2:41 pm

Nice choise of gear and weapons to look like an assassin :)

Tier2 for rogue was the best ever, though blackwing lair was terrible, Chromaggus gave me nightmares, which changed to dreams when he dropped my nemesis and bloodfang shoulders ^_^

    Good movie overall.

By Sam the Warcrafter on Thursday, January 29th, 2009 at 7:48 pm

    Isn’t it obvious?
    This is the plot.
This assasain was hired to kill that lady
    because she is Onixya’s mother.
    (Hence the wings)
But the people at Stormwind don’t know,
    hence the title
    Blind

By Kettle on Thursday, February 12th, 2009 at 5:02 am

    Lady Prestor *is* Onyxia.

By Alexander on Thursday, February 12th, 2009 at 11:41 am

Also noticed something which i thought is exactly as an in-wow NPC as well. seems I was wrong but still the human rogue used for this looks pretty much like
Osborne the Night Man, rogue trainer - without the
    beard / mustache.

    http://www.wowhead.com/?npc=918

    Kill me if I’m wrong.

By Alexander on Thursday, February 12th, 2009 at 11:53 am

Btw just read some comments and one really upset me :
The music is kind’a cool and sexy :P love the song and really fits to the movie.

By Omega on Monday, February 23rd, 2009 at 7:15 pm

well that’s…….rather awesome, almost makes me want to play a rogue even though i know better.

By Michelus on Sunday, May 10th, 2009 at 6:18 pm

You could cut the sexual tension between those two rogues with a knife!

By Brian on Saturday, September 26th, 2009 at 11:41 pm

The music was incredible; The video was amazing. I first saw this video half a year ago; and today found that song stuck in my head… I will not rest until I have an MP3 version of it - and anything else made by that artist… Great music - Those of you that hated it — let me guess - you enjoy the ‘thrash metal screaming’ crap that’s in a lot of other wow videos don’t you… (/puke) Anyone who likes Dance/Technopop will love the soundtrack ‘Hide & Seek” by Namie Amuro
