Curse You Blizzarrrrrrrrrrrd

Curse You Blizzarrrrrrrrrrrd

Every video game has bugs, some game breaking, others just amusing.  Old school NES players likely remember the Minus World from Super Mario Bros., and all arcade junkies strove to reach the unplayable 256th stage of Pacman.  Yesterday I found an amusing, and somewhat expensive, bug inside WoW during my quest for Solidsagart’s first exalted standing (with Sons of Hodir).

As I took to the skies in the grasp of a wild wyrm I realized that I was no where near full health.  Lacking the speed to throw up a Renew before liftoff, I resided to the chance that I may die during stage two of the assault, but I wasn’t going to roll over.  Solidsagart fought valiantly, proceeding to get eight stacks of Pry Jaws Open on the frosty beast.  With a 40% chance to land the killshot, and little health left, I triggered Fatal Strike.  Failed.  A few more PJOs as the CD refreshed and I fired it off again.  Failed.  At this point I knew there was no way I was making it out of this battle alive.  I began spamming Fatal Strike and it finally landed; the same moment that Jaws of Death ticked one last time, crushing my squishy body in the now-dead wyrm’s maw.

Here’s where the bug comes in.  Instead of the wyrm and my body giving way to the forces of gravity, or the beast ejecting me from his toothy hold, as normally happens in a successful kill, my body was left floating hundreds of feet in the air.  Here’s a thousand words for you:

*Sigh* Is This Worthy Of A GM Ticket?

I crossed my fingers as I released, praying that my soulless husk would plummet to the ground as I ran to reclaim it.  It didn’t.  Instead of residing myself to a single death at the start of the quest I was now facing two, or a resurrection sickness penalty.  I took the fun way out and allowed the second death to race towards me at an incredible speed.

World of Warcraft is full of fun bugs, exploits and glitches, just like any other game.  During the early days of WoW players used to access all sorts of off-limit areas thanks to terrain bugs or expert platforming skills.  I personally feel through the world at least a half dozen times, the first time was when I was standing outside my favorite instance.  What amusing, painfully expensive or eye-opening (Hyjal, the basement of Karazhan before the instance was added) bugs have you experienced?

During the ghoul event, Had a friend get infected and we all hopped on a flight to the far north side (Stormwind to Freewind post I believe.) Well, about Wetlands she became a ghoul… and just before landing, she died. Her ghoulish body looked like a twisted Christmas ornament at the top of a pine tree. XD

I’m quite tired of seeing crap about wow, anyone know of a site like this for Aion?

By puhoi on Wednesday, October 28th, 2009 at 3:03 pm

@Unknown It’s a site about WoW. That means if you visit you will see content… about WoW! Get over it.

And to answer the post, my personal favorite bug is seeing various people get “stuck” on flight path mounts as they ran around Azeroth. Meaning I continued to see them go about questing, etc. atop a gryphon when in reality (on their screen) they had already dismounted. It made fighting and swimming quite enjoyable from my end. Stopped getting that bug once I bought a new computer though. :(

that happened to me a few weeks ago 4 times in arow i was soo pissed

By Unknown on Wednesday, October 28th, 2009 at 3:15 pm

@Puhoi That may be true but WoW is in a rapid downward spiral of poor content patches or just no content at all, but when they do add things they only make the game easier. Blizz is only going to destroy the game with the next expansion.

And this site died for me when they just came to a dead stop making videos, thus is why I asked my question.

My bug was in the first few months of BC. Whenever I mounted my elek on the Aldor rise elevator I would always fall through to my death. Any other mount I would be fine. I guess the elevator had a weight limit, who knew?

    @Kieran
You can’t disrobe when dead, the best he could have done was take stuff off on the way down. Few items at best, unless he has a gear switching mod/macro.

By puhoi on Wednesday, October 28th, 2009 at 3:17 pm

@Unknown That is your opinion and you are entitled to it. But complaining about someone’s site because they’re not talking about the game you want a site about is rude and unconstructive. If you don’t want to read about WoW don’t read a WoW site. It’s simple. Google, etc. exist for a reason.

    Can’t priests Levitate?

By Shuoven on Wednesday, October 28th, 2009 at 3:46 pm

I love being a Pally… There have been several instances of me dying pretty far above the ground, but strangely, always in places where you get a spectral griffin to ride up to my corpse. Then, as I’m falling to my normally sure doom, I bubble, and land quite safely!

I think the wierdest bug I ever encountered was where I died, went back to my corpse which was stuck in a wall, and when I res’d I was still in the wall… had to get a gm to kick me out.

By Togarox on Wednesday, October 28th, 2009 at 4:30 pm

Well yesturday a guidy of mine was trying to fly from borean tundra to Dalaran by taking the flight path. The bird ended up taking a wrong turn and instead flew out into the middle of the ocean. My guidie died of fatigue. After he clicked the release button he appeared alive in the middle of the Barrens.

Never have this problem, aah…but just one pro of being a mage.

On a side note, I miss old PL. Will it ever return?

I broke the Gnomregon lift. I tried to catch it at the last second and made it just as it close the hatch. Well, being several feet above the actual life and knowing all object fall at the same rate, I hit at the very bottom. Once the lift went up, it took me with it and I released midway. Now, my corpse was stuck halfway up the lift in midair like this articles incident. Now here the kicker, whenever the lift hit the bottom after that, it dissapeared and you had to get a well timed jump to catch a ride up.

I wouldn’t have filed a report if I didnt feel like an ass for breaking gnomregon for the rest of my server.

I don’t know if you can call it a bug but my raid/guildmates love the “naked buff”. If someone dies during a raid and gets rezed or summoned back they have a change to see everyone naked. If goes away after a while but it sure get everyone gigglin.

By The Enemy on Wednesday, October 28th, 2009 at 5:59 pm

I have often become one with the IF-SW Tram - it usually happens when I’m trying to catch it just as it leaves. I’ll have Cheetah or Pack on and run at it as the first car is pulling away, and jump towards the last car. Sometimes it works, and I don’t have to wait for the next ride, but it usually misses. Every once in a while, though, I’ll hit the car just right so that I become stuck, and have to ride the tram back and forth a few times to get out - it really throws havoc into my system if I try to escape it by logging.

By bak00777 on Wednesday, October 28th, 2009 at 6:29 pm

Back in the day, vanilla WoW, my comp was crap. Well one day i was on the deep run tram, and about half way thru, i lag and D/C. After i get back on i find myself down in the tracks. For 10mins i comstantly D/C whenever the train goes above me, needless to say i was a little mad. Well after that the train goes over me one last time, this time it pushes me thru the world. I end up on the roof of the Org bank.

My most hated glitch actually just happened to me about 10 mins ago in H UK. one of the vrykul got stunned on the stairs by our rogue, and when we attacked him, he was stuck on the stairs so he evaded every attack but could still hurt us.
then the rogue died and he was still stuck, and we couldn’t res him because we were technically stuck in combat.

By Displace on Wednesday, October 28th, 2009 at 7:01 pm

I was killing random Vrykul’s in Howling Fjord and I had died on top of a tower. So I hit the release button and start running over to my body, only to find out that it is far too high to rezz. So on my way back to find the spirit guide I start falling through the world. This continued for a few minutes so I decided to log off and back on hoping to be placed somewhere safe.

When I log back on I find myself falling from the sky. When my spirit hits the ground I find myself in Eastern Plaguelands. I look up to see the Spirit Guide floating high in the air, out of reach to get rezzed.

So I decide to run my spirit all the way to UC to take the zep over to Northrend, praying it would work. Low and behold I start falling through the world again, and land in Howling Fjord.

It made me realize that Azeroth is round….and not flat like my map suggests.

    @shuoven

couldn’t u have hearthed out of the wall, or was it on CD at the time?

By Chorrizo on Thursday, October 29th, 2009 at 5:54 am

I saw this one just the other day while running my Argent Dailies with a guildy. We were doing Battle Before the Citidel. My buddy got there first and mounted. When I got there, he was still standing where he mounted his charger doing all the combat animations you would while fighting. Then I noticed a horse with no rider bearing my friends name plate. I took a look around and everyone else was gliched the same way. Let me tell you, its rather hard to stick together on that quest if all you see is horses running around without riders.

By TurboLaxx on Thursday, October 29th, 2009 at 10:54 am

    @Togarox

That has to be the funniest thing I’ve read in a while. Who knew the taxi rides could become a runaway rollercoaster with a “….WTF just happened?” ending.

I had a favorable glitch in BC when gaining rep for Netherdrake mount. I was doing the dailies in Netherwing Ledge while flying around as an orc when I was summoned for an instance run. I accepted and come out at the summoning stone back into my old self but still on the Netherdrake mount. I didnt even have epic riding skill but it allowed me to fly it like I owned him. Only lasted till I dismounted :(

hm dcing in org then relloging me falling in howling forjd below the ground to my deat and when i released i just fell got near my corspe but the screen reloaded by to the top. I was stuck in an endless loop Ctrl Alt Delete end task ftw :p
On the early stages of 3.1 we were doing bf and an aggro wipe occured when we released we rezzed at the spirit healer and half way the tank suudenly died.

By iTZKooPA on Thursday, October 29th, 2009 at 11:24 am

Yes, priest have Levitate, but I never carry around the reagent.

By Kruldar on Thursday, October 29th, 2009 at 12:45 pm

I have to say the weirdest glitch happened the day 3.1 came out.

I logged onto my pally and i just started falling through the sky. I then died. So i released and i just started falling through the sky again. This went on for about 15 min and when it decided to stop i was randomly in EPL.

yes priest have levitate. On my priest that im leveling right now i actually have the glyph for those occasions where i just have to get out of there.

By xianghua on Thursday, October 29th, 2009 at 1:25 pm

Shortly after 3.1 came out, I was playing my death knight and decided to death gate back to acherus for some reason or another.

I click on the gate and suddenly appear mid air over howling fjord. Needless to say I died.

I hit release and BAM! I’m back at Death’s Breach below Acherus. Cue the “WTF” moment.

I take rez sickness and try to death gate again. Same bug, except this time I end up on the southern coast of dragonblight and there are others here with me. I die. AGAIN.

That all happened the same day that my paladin main got stuck on the load screen of H Utgarde Pinnacle.
