Wow. What a mess the Echoes of Doom patch has been. I do not know about the rest of you, but I have had a hell of a time with the latest content patch. Blizzard Entertainment warned us that the maintenance would be extended, but my main server experienced over 12 hours of down time. Then it was hit with shoddy performance when the realm finally came up. In fairness, I would rather take the downtime now, than when all the new content from Wrath of the Lich King goes live. Of course, that is the exact reason Blizzard does these patches ahead of time, to work out the kinks.
My server being down was only half the battle though. I don’t think I have mentioned this before, but I actually play World of Warcraft on three separate computers. Keeping the WoW installations on the myriad of computers I have is difficult enough for common play (no, I don’t want to carry around my WoW installation on an external harddrive). So you can imagine how annoying it is to go through the motions of patching and reinstalling addons on three computers for a major content patch. Tools like the BLASC Client can only do so much.
My two Windows XP boxes patched up nicely, although I had to transfer the patch from one box to the other because a download was corrupt. Thankfully, Blizzard’s repair tool managed to revert the MMORPG to 2.0.0 rather than having to reinstall everything. Things went smoothly after that.
My Windows Vista 64-bit box has been, and continues to be, a bit more difficult though. I have the User Access Controls disabled - because they suck - and still get harassed by Blizzard’s installer telling me to move the files to a public directory. I told it to do what it wants and it failed to copy data from the original installation location into the public area. I figured it was a PEBKAC issue and tried again, this time not moving the files. Failed again with much the same error, unable to copy data.
I then did a whole bunch of dumb things like copied the patch files into the installation folder, ran it as administrator, ran it as administrator while on one foot and ran it as administrator while I played The Witcher. At this point I was worried about the installation as a whole, thinking that the failures may just cause a chain reaction of destruction. Double-clicked the repair tool (as admin, while I prayed to Pagan gods) and got reverted to 2.0.0 on the Vista box.
It took me awhile, but I finally gave up in frustration and began to download a new copy of the patch. Hours later, in fact, it ended up being early this morning, it completed and installed correctly. Looks like I was blaming Vista for another corrupted download. Sorry Microsoft!
Things are up and running on all of my computers now, and I have begun taking a hard look at which specs to select for my Rogue and Priest. I think I am going to roll with a healer Priest from now until level 80, so that should be different. How did the conversion to the Wrath of the Lich King’s launch screen - which rocks by the way - go for all of you?

Awful day, my server has been down for the most part, was so bored i had to make a toon on another server :O, also lag issues have been crippling.
As for the additions, they are truly brilliant making the game fun to play (when i get on that is lol)
Project lore FTW you guys are really making a big difference to the way i play the game.

I have an XP box and I had no troubles at all. Everything went smooth. And for that I am really glad cause when it comes to my pc, when something doesn’t work I expect the worst.

Oh and now it turns out that the whole cyclone battlegroup servers are down for another hour (europe servers)

I’m frustrated that the amount materials needed for inscription have increased so I’m having to run around STV picking some. Well I would be, if my server would work
Also most of my mods are broken, including the ones updated today. But hey, its probably the biggest patch since wow was releases so I’ll let Blizzard off.
By Nuffer on Wednesday, October 15th, 2008 at 11:49 am
Sadly its not going to well for me, i think the loading screen looks awesome, but since i patched, its like the server data base wiped my username and password, i can log onto Account Management with my user + pass, but not onto the servers, im really confused.
Hope you guys are enjoying it me than i am.
( PS if any1’s got a Solution to my problem ide be glad to know)
(PPS im on EU servers if its any conselation)

I was worried that the second half of the patch install (3.0.2) would take forever like the original 800 megs did (3.0.1), but the DL was incredibly fast and pain free.
Installation went smooth, and I was looking forward to playing for a few hours… but it wasn’t in the cards for me. Our server (Kael’thas) finally came up by around 10:30 EST, so I managed to see the sights (SW Harbour is beaut!) and get my first acheivement (shave-n-haircut).
Highlight of the evening… respec and new spells for my Druid. My first /tell was a general request for Duel so I could root them indoors!! I’ll also be rezz’ing every corpse I see in my travels.
All in all… GG Blizz, I love it.

I think the thing that pisses me off the most is that every single time there is a patch, and something goes wrong or all the servers go down, every website with any info *poof* magically disappears. Talk about a total information shut down!
By Fidel Castor on Wednesday, October 15th, 2008 at 12:01 pm
Instalation…. check…..
server…. wait, who ate up my servers?
It’s been forever now, I can’t get on any of my mains so I just ended up making another toon, on a RP server…
It’s funny to see crazy gnomes roleplay in SW harbor, really.. Love /cower.. hate the lag
By IvailoMinkov on Wednesday, October 15th, 2008 at 12:03 pm
No problem for me on Ubuntu. Mods are broken but it’s not that much pain in the ass. And still i was happy to have some free hours while servers were down.
By Peter on Wednesday, October 15th, 2008 at 12:05 pm
Just like digg has the infamous “digg effect”, WoW has the “WoW effect”.
Whenever there’s a widespread problem, every single source of information or help gets inundated with thousands and thousands of frustrated and/or angry players looking for an answer. That’s why the forums always shut down whenever there’s a server glitch. Too many people at once all trying to access the same pages.
Cenarius-US was total drek last night. Wasn’t able to get past the character screen until around 9pm, and wasn’t able to actually log on and run around until 11pm. Even then, the server kept booting me every once in a while and I’d have to respec again. There are missing mounts and pets, people have been stranded mid-portal to IF… hopefully Blizz has all the kinks worked out today.

By Cloudbearer on Wednesday, October 15th, 2008 at 12:13 pm
That patch was rough.
I got on and immediately started learned all my vanity pets and mounts. I then tried to log off with my main, which didn’t work. I manually closed WoW and eventually got back onto the server, and then the world server went down shortly after.
This morning I’m one of the many that’s missing mounts and pets (half of my mounts and all of my pets) - hoping to go home and see they’re back.
As ITZKooPA mentioned, better now than the release of Lich King. Blizzard has a reputation for having trouble with patches, but they were rock solid when Burning Crusade released - the only server problem was the fact that so many people were playing in the same areas. I’m confident they can give us another good release like that.
Anyway, haven’t been able to check too much of the new stuff out yet. I haven’t respecced, but I did get a great beard (it’s about time my hunter had a beard). I also checked out Stormwind harbor which is quite the site!

On Fenris Server patch was as stated 12 hours but after we came back up about every 15 minutes the world server would go down reset and I would be back about 2 minutes later in a section I was in 6 or 7 minutes prior having to do over what ever I was doing when I was forced logged out
boo Blizzard Booo!

Love the new screen, love the new exotic pets. Had to deal with a ton of lolnubs in Trade “OMG WHAR R MAH MOUNTS!?” …you know, stuff like that. <_<;
Gotta admit some of these achievements are fun. I’m wanting to try the Leeeeeeeeeeroy! Achievement in LBRS.
By Reyson on Wednesday, October 15th, 2008 at 12:52 pm
well..what should I say, been downloading the damn patch for 10hours… and still at 88%,hate that blizzard downloader, always says my pc’s behind a firewall, even if I’ve let it ignore the downloader
By DaMOTh on Wednesday, October 15th, 2008 at 12:56 pm
I am actually surprised that so many people had so much trouble downloading and installing the patch. My computer is only about six months old (W/ Vista ::YUCK!::), but it’s specs aren’t that great. I had to upgrade just to 2GB memory myself! I had the patch (All 2.6GB worth) downloaded in about six minutes and installed in another five.
I did have trouble logging on after Blizzard’s promised 6:00 Pacific time, but only for about 30 minutes.
As for the login screen, I love it! Pretty sweet. It does not play well on my comp, though, and skips horribly. The BC screen was seamless. Hopefully, the new graphics upgrade will be worth the 30% frame rate loss I experienced.
Favorite part about the new patch so far: Thunder Clap actually does damage!! Can’t wait to see what Consecration will do…
By goliath553 on Wednesday, October 15th, 2008 at 1:02 pm
Besides waiting 7 hours to download the patch…. I have since been kicked three times from my server, then it says “world is down”
Pretty annoying when you are not in an inn and in the middle of solo questing.
By Cloudbearer on Wednesday, October 15th, 2008 at 1:07 pm
Also wanted to add… The shadow effects are really cool. My computer isn’t quite good enough to run full screen glow and full shadows comfortably, but even with some shadows it looks great.
I did see a better framerate than I’m used to after the patch as well. I’m hoping to upgrade my computer in the next year… I’d love to run WoW at full settings.
By David on Wednesday, October 15th, 2008 at 1:24 pm
wait a minute, i thought mounts would be a spell starting in the new patch. mines still in my inventory. is it only when you but the expansion?
By solauran on Wednesday, October 15th, 2008 at 1:25 pm
it took a while for it to boot up. Nut once it started, it went downhill. Lag was terrible, and my addOns were screwing up the game like MAD!. so i ended up replacing mmost of them, but its still pretty screwy..
By Josh on Wednesday, October 15th, 2008 at 1:29 pm
I was off that day from school and all i wanted to do was play wow since seven in the morning. I waited and waited with nothing to do…then well all the other servers got up before mine and it was 9:45 pm when my server was finally up and i still dont understand what is a good warrior spec.

By Krowtz on Wednesday, October 15th, 2008 at 2:27 pm
Everything updated smoothly for me. But, my server had to have been one of the last ones running which was pretty crappy. Also, I logged on today and re-spec’d, starting getting into the changes and checking out new stuff. Then my server booted me right in the middle of a bad area. Hey, but good times!
By Pauldy on Wednesday, October 15th, 2008 at 2:27 pm
My favorite problem now is the PETs tab is apparently broken and everyone is calling people newbs because they can’t find their mounts after the update, because they really are gone. I have my Wolpertinger and Epic flying mount in the pets tab. The rest of my mounts and pets are all mia, not in my bags or the bank. While looking for answers in the forums I came across quite a few that had subject that sounded like people with similar experiences click the link only to find out the posts had been deleted. Makes you wonder if maybe they could focus more on a fix and less on the PR trouble of their epic fail. This has to be the worst rollout I can remember, maybe one of these days they will get it right.
By Alayea on Wednesday, October 15th, 2008 at 2:37 pm
When we — my sister and I, since we share a computer — got the first opportunity to get the patch yesterday, downloading patch 3.0.1 took at least 3.5 hours and another hour to install. Patch 3.0.2 was faster, but still slow.
And all that was while my computer kept saying that it was behind a firewall, even though I had all possible firewalls set to ignore the updater.
Anyway, so it’s around 7pm PDT when we were finally (kind of) able to access our account. The login page looked sweet and ran well, but it wasn’t until another hour later that we could retrieve our character list. So, in all, that was somewhere around 16-18 hours total of downtime for Malfurion.
The next burst of craziness was when my sister logged onto her main, we found out that the world server for Kalimdor was down and there were some zone issues for Outland. My sister stayed up until around 2am PDT, but Kalimdor wasn’t accessible until approx. 7am PDT this morning. Ever since then, it’s been Kalimdor and Eastern Kingdoms taking turns on going down.
While I’m not going to go on a rant against Blizzard, I’m am feeling quite displeased with all of this. I can only hope that when WotLK is released, things will go much smoother.
By Alayea on Wednesday, October 15th, 2008 at 2:54 pm
Oh, and I forgot to add that if you’re planning on taking a zeppelin… Take your eq off so that if the zepp disappears on you, ya won’t run up a repair bill.
By Nextgener on Wednesday, October 15th, 2008 at 3:09 pm
Honestly? No problems what so ever.
Got booted off the server once or twice, but was back up in a few minutes. And I honestly don’t notice any addon changes since i play a war most often (and plan too for al ong time to come).
Oh, and had 1 last awesome Kara Clear HAZZAH with my guild. Went smooth as silk, people Love the new changes (as do i), And each boss died in less than a minute. lol
In short, once u play on a single comp that just works for ya, yeah, no problems to be found.
By Shaun on Wednesday, October 15th, 2008 at 3:11 pm
I have a Mac from three years ago, and it doesn’t really like the new loading screen. My server, Executus, was down forever, so I decided to do something crazy and reformat my computer. Bye bye everything I’ve accumulated in the past three years. I would’ve backed up a few things, but I don’t know how to partition my hard drive. So I’m just re-downloading everything I need, including WoW. I’m so glad I have FiOS…
By Garviel on Wednesday, October 15th, 2008 at 3:44 pm
My Server (Eitrigg) was down about 2 hrs longer than they said it would, after that I was booted off 3-4 times during play.
By Vên on Wednesday, October 15th, 2008 at 3:58 pm
Yea… I was unable to log onto Executus at all, though I was able to get on my old server, Farstriders, without much issues, got me a Devilsaur for a pet, went to Kara, got my T4 gloves…
on the down side, Kara is no harder than Heroic Shattered Halls now… I was actually looking forward to doing some damage.
By MightyGibbon on Wednesday, October 15th, 2008 at 4:40 pm
typical, the second a new proffession is released theres 100’s of people powerleveling it to the max an AH prices going sky high, minor glyph’s on earthern ring (euro) are selling for 300G or more, its all getting a bit crazy lol
By Ozzel's Cousin Fred on Wednesday, October 15th, 2008 at 4:56 pm
Silvermoon was bugged horribly, many npcs were only half there, stuff was half missing, and I lost over 15 mounts, and 15 or so pets, including rare and difficult to replace ones like mojo, spirit of competition, and a complete set of brewfest mounts
I have achivements for all of them too, so I’m hoping i can get them replaced. It’s not a visibility issue, its a byproduct of server crashing after I logged in and learned v.v

Well, let’s see…Had most of the patch dl’d prior to Tuesday, got up about 9A ST, opened WoW Launcher about 10mins later, hit play, DL began, went outside had a smoke, came back DL was complete, install 1/2 way complete. Already knew servers would be down for 12hrs of maintenance so no shocker there when I couldn’t get past login screen. Fortunately for me at 3P ST (lunch), game was up, server was up. Opened WoW Matrix, began AddOn Updates, still updating today. Running Vista NO PROBLEMS, Woot. Yes I may be a noob, but unlike most I know how to read and expected the servers to have issues, and have remained as much in the loop as possible since the Test Realm opened.

There is a third computer that also has Vista on it the only issue I had with that computer since the patch was finished is I can not talk with any vendors or see the items. you know, its not worth it to complain about down time, you right itzkoopa, better now then better on release date. i mean things wont ever or always go right, look how many people play, it wont go right for everyone. for me it went just fine, but i waited 24hrs to play bc i knew something like the echoes of doom patch would come with errors. its given me time to play other games (deadspace…buy it its awesome…). but now my game runs smoother and faster at a full power. feels good.

My server went a bit weird really on Kilrogg realm. Installing the patch was fine and dandy but took a hell of a long time, about 4 hours in total YAWN. When i eventually got on it was great untill i went to Stormwind, And all it wanted to do was say “World server is down”. Got on again HS’s to Shatt and all was fine so i forgot about it and went to try out the new talents and Duel weilding 2 handers SOOOOO GOOD! But then i wanted to try out a glyph so went to SW again, then kaboom ‘World server down”. asked a few ppl in guild and they said that all apart from outlands was down. Got on today though which was fine but not sure i’m going to go back to SW for about a week at most! Great addition to the game though, put a bit more spark into the game i think, and the acheivement points are fun to go and earn

My guilds run of kara was going awesome until we tried to go round the back for the curator and the we realised we could get out. So we decided to go the cash was to get some pocket money :)… we did it and moved to Shade of Aran… We wiped cause before we had a hunter run out of ammo and he could use his hearth stone or my portals to get outta kara… then he disconnected… but anyway back to the wipe. When everyone died and i died all i saw was when people were releasing was ‘name’ has disconnected’ and then i realsed and i disconnected and could get back on til this morning… lucky enough i have a 70 paladin on another server and realised how awesome and OP they are now XD. I hope both my mage and paladin dont get nerfed =[

The minute i got home from work, i started the patch download. 5 hours later, it finally completes… only to let me know that I don’t have enough space on my hard drive for the @#$@# patch! So now i have to take my computer into the shop to get the hard drive upgrade! good times! Oh the money we spend on WoW. It’s not just $15 a month!
By Phoenix599 on Thursday, October 16th, 2008 at 10:20 am
I waited until the evening of the 2d day after the patch was released to download the final patch stubs and get up and running. The WoW Tech Support forum was full of horror stories, so I decided to wait.
My XP patch went flawlessly, although it took a bit longer than I expected with the download appearing to slow dramatically at 98% (but still continuing),and the actual install taking some time…but all was OK.
Prior to patching, I had updated every add-on that I could find that was supposed to work with 3.0.2. I launched WoW and entered Ironforge on the Duskwood server, ready to redistribute talents, but then immediately panicked when I could find no Pet Tab in my character window, and both my mounts wouldn’t work. It took about 5 minutes for me to receive a yellow text notification in General Chat saying something to the effect that I had learned how to ride a Nightsabre. Shortly after that, the Pet Tab appeared, but would do nothing other than offer a 3D view of the mount. Several minutes after than, my flying mount “learned” text appeared in General Chat. After about 10 minutes total, my mount icons worked on the action bars, and all was OK…but I had some very anxious moments.
I redistributed talents, replaced some missing icons in action bars, then went to visit the local poison vendor (playing my Rogue), confirmed that reagents were no longer needed, but also discovered that the higher level poisons were not offered by that vendor. Have researched, and it appears that I can purchase them in Shat on the Scryer’s Tier (will confirm this evening).
Checked out the AH, purchased a couple major glyphs, located the Lexicon of Power, and enhanced my Backstab and Sinister Strike capabilities. Sweet! I then sold all my poison reagents and anything that had to do with Vanish, freeing up all kinds of bank and bag slots. Very nice.
I did have to adjust shadow detail to about 25% to keep my fps close to what it was prior to the patch, but other than than, everything seems to be working well atm.

I had no major issues with the patch. Got home from work and downloaded the new patch. Which only took me 5 min =).
Then installed on my Vista machine with no problems, started the game only to realize that all my addons dont work anymore =’(
My server was up and running at 6 pm PST, only had to reboot once, but I was able to get all my glyphs for both my hunter and my warrior and re-do all my talents for both toons before the reboot of the server, which only lasted about an hour then I was back to getting as many achivements as I could for the night.

Dunemaul - US, Horde, not a single problem to report, but i did also wait until after work to sign on. i also ran out of room on the HD had to switch to my bigger drive and when i did i was half out of breathe and there was a dead character where i was…. must have run out of breathe? anyone else see that? i really like the spellbook adds and the fact that pets don’t take up bag room. the graphics in UC ran smoother than before 3.0.2 started the “/love the various animals”, and i must say the trackin part doesn’t track very well. and of all things my wife misses the BC login screen, but i like the WotLK one better.

I play on 2 computers, my desktop(self Built) and my laptop(best buy Special), bith running XP, my laptop patched up fine no issues, my desktop on the other hand had issues since i said the word patch, first attempt patch did not work tried the fix utility twice sstill did not work, it reverted me back to 2.0.0 and then tried to patch back up and worked till the new patch and this cycle happened 4 times before i said screw it and did a fresh install from the begining. well needless to say the above scenerio happened 2 more times, of course cant get blizzard on the phone, so third fresh install and everything worked like it was supposed to. so to make a long story short after about 14hours of down loading and installing im back up on my desktop!!!!!!

IMPORTANT PETITION FOR COMPUTER PROBLEM
ever sense i downloaded the new patch, my computer has gotten messed up. after reinstalling addons and playing nonstop, yesterday my computer began freezing for about 2 seconds, then the harddrive makes a beeping noise. yes, it is coming from the harddrive. it does this in all programs, even when booting windows. now i found that after playing wow all day, i log on and hit enter world. it goes unresponsive, and does not load AT ALL. anyone else have this problem? i wonder if it has to do with WoW or not… just really bummed i cant for now

David, make sure you have good air flow in your case about the only thing I can think of that would cause such a problem is the fact the default settings on the new patch is more cpu intensive than before meaning your cpu and video card will work harder and produce more heat.

Well, things are pretty stable on Malfurion now. We only lost Outland and Eastern Kingdoms once today, and they weren’t down for very long. The only real problem now is that after those two places crashed, there’s a lot of players saying that their toons are inaccessible because an error pops up on some of the characters claiming that “the name is already in use”.
Well, can’t say I’m bored…

I am having trouble at the moment but have heard no-one else mention it….. Everytime i re-log my character i lose all of my macro’s all the settings for my add-ons, also no-matter what i turned off in the add-on selection menu it would just give me a random selection of add-ons (most of which didnt work) i have managed to get round this part by deleting nearly all of my add-ons from wow folder, but if anyone knows why i cannot save macro’s or settings on my ZHunter Mod please feel free to share

i dont think anyone else mentioned, but patches under XP are stored in ‘C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\Updates’
) or else i doubt i wouldv found where to put it in Vista otherwise.
but under Vista: ‘C:\Users\Public\Documents\Blizzard Entertainment\World of Warcraft\Updates’… caught me out when copying the patch between my machines. thankfully i downloaded it on Vista (while at work woot, more bandwidth left for me at home

I didn’t have too many issues, except my toon has been somewhat anorexic of late and refuses to eat or drink more than about two seconds at a time.
