Patch 3.0.2 Going To Be Big - Downloading Begins Soon

Patch 3.0.2 Is Coming Sooner Than ExpectedOh sweet jumping Jesus.  Patch 3.0.2 is apparently creeping up on us sooner than I expected.  Blizzard Poster Zarhym announces that the bridging patch is going to be a large one.  Not that we expected anything less, considering the size of the pre-TBC “Before the Storm” patch.  I already touched on some changes that were announced when the patch was first revealed but the news of the impending download calls for an update.

For starters, Zarhym warns us that this patch will be big.  So big that the flying skull wants all users to activate their Background Downloader to prepare to download the data that has been finalized.  It is also mentioned that the downloader should be downloading faster in general now.  Seems that they tweaked their torrent system a bit. The process should be enabled shortly.

Even though we received the warning, Blizzard has still not added any patch notes to their site.  It’s likely we will see some patch notes this week to elaborate on all the known changes. We also have some anecdotal evidence to hint at how soon the patch may be coming.  First off, the PTR forums have been wiped, which usually occurs before a patch heads to them.  I should mention that much of the new stuff has been tested on the beta realms extensively, meaning a PTR session could theoretically be skipped.  Secondly, the Launcher is now displaying a Wrath of the Lich King splashscreen.  Nothing groundbreaking or concrete, but evidence nonetheless.

Here is some of the stuff we already know is coming with the new patch:

Get to work on those bear mounts guys.  I will be content with waiting for a Polar Bear though.

    Its currently downloading the 1gb patch WoW-2.4.3-to3.0.1-TBC-USMX-Update but its still slow as hell and I have a great internet connection.

    I’m glad this patch is coming soon, the current content is getting pretty stale.

    I can’t wait to try raids with the new spells/buff system, and of course get myself a Night Elf Mohawk!

    Its because the ZA bear is a reward for a high end raid, come WotLK we’ll all be level 80 running in there to farm bears and blizzard probable see’s it as unfair to those who have work hard for it. This will now be their badge of honour… But on the other hand I WANT A WAR BEAR!!!

    They should just put the timed Amani Warbear as a drop on the last boss in ZA and make the droprates same as the barons steed or the mounts in ZG if you ask me. :)

    So glad the patch came out! Ive downloaded it and I think it was around 934mb (in that region) for me - it took ages, several hours - I hope it’s worth it, and im sure it is!
    Now i launch wow every day to see if its been implemented.

    I’ve been trying to download the patch using the blizzard loader since Thursday, Sept. 18th. Slow does not begin to describe the process. I have a good DSL connection but I’ve downloaded 10% of a 800+ mb file in 21/2 days!? On the connection info screen of the loader you can see the other ip addresses that the loader is trying to download from or upload to using the torrent system. At any one time there is usually only 10 or so entries in the list when I would think there would be 10 times that much. As I understand the process thats how a torrent system works: the more its distributed the faster it will download later on. Maybe its taking so long because its only been out a short while. I don’t know but I’m just gonna keep it going. The content sounds cool.

    The patch for me is currently 1.11 GB and it says it should take about 14 hours. I hope you are right about the speeding up at 15%…..

    Ehm.. 3.0.1 went in with np, but with 3.0.2 it stopped at 95%, 1,51 gb of 1,57gb, telling me that “several problems saving data”:/
    Ive checked the disk, no bad sectors, running it as admin, still..dunno what to do:o

    hate dowloading the new patch… when I use the back ground dowloader with raid addons I cannot heal, tank or even dps <.< my latency goes to 1k or so and it start giving me 4 sec lagg (I press a button and see the spell coming after 4 secs). thou the new stuff for palas, warriors and rogues is sorta nice ( need to respecc again /sigh), not to forget warlocks :) they all rule

    jeez uberslow background downloader, it went fast for the first 900mb but then 1% every 5-10 minutes it says
    2.4.3 to 3.0.2 and im at 1.18gb/1.62gb it says 8 hours left =| a well hope it wont get stuck at 95% as some other people do cuz im letting this download while im sleeping tonight
