Juggy Still Loves Enhancement

Better than a Hunter, I get two pets.

There certainly is a lot of activity on WoW after the latest patch. Everyone has new talents, abilities, and mechanics. After a bit of a rough start, especially for the Executus server with intermittent problems over a day after the patch, I managed to log on long enough to pick up my newest mount, the Big Blizzard Bear. Other than doing that, I was completely lost. No addons, no talents, missing spells, what was I to do?

As enhancement, before 3.0, I pretty much knew what to do. I had all of my addons perfectly setup to make me the most efficient ass kicking machine ever. All of that is now in the past. One of the first things I needed to do after patching to do was set up Dominos, a replacement for my previous favorite action bar addon, Bongos. Then I went through to figure out where to put talents. My spec could probably use a little work after playing for a little bit.

Next, I had to figure out what to actually do in order to kick ass post 3.0.2. I have a few new spells and talents that I needed to prioritize. Stormstrike for me is still the best instant available, since it does a bunch of damage and can proc a bunch of other things, including Windfury, Maelstrom Weapon, Flurry, among the other crazy trinkets and procs that I have. Lava Lash seems to make Flametongue a viable offhand imbue, but according to my uncontrolled test environment (I really should spend some more time at the training dummies in Ironforge, near the Military Ward), I still prefer dual WF.

Now that hit and spell hit are a single stat, I am extremely close to the spell hit cap, and I can pretty much use Earth Shock without fear of a resist and it gets crit chance from some of my gear. In order of priority, Stormstrike, Earth Shock, and Lava Lash are my bread and butter instant casts. If Maelstrom Weapon is stacked to 5, I’ll use it for Lightning Bolt, Chain Lightning, or a Healing Wave (I can’t wait to setup Clique to optimize off-healing). So, I pretty much set up a macro to optimize my DPS. Improved Stormstrike has an 8 second cooldown. Earth Shock untalented has a 6 second cooldown, Lava Lash also has a 6 second cooldown, and the max global cooldown is 1.5 seconds. So, the macro goes like this:

/castsequence reset=8 Stormstrike, Earth Shock, Lava Lash

Hammering this macro between other spells will make me miss an Earth Shock cooldown every once in a while, but makes things super simple while I am still trying to figure out Maelstrom Weapon along with my new favorite friends, Feral Spirit. I’ll talk about them later, because they are so much fun.

before the patch enh shamans were boring imo, it was just spamming stormstrike and earth shock, that’s not much fun. But i like it better now. ( Although i’m resto :P )

I have to agree here, Enhance Shamans are pretty sweet. Sweet enough to change out of my current end game spec(Restoration). No, but thats a personal choice.

If anything the biggest strength to enhancement is the fact that itemization has been made better for that spec in the game. AGI gives you attack power.

As enhancement i’ve always avoided the duel spec… I just don’t think it gives you the bang for your buck. This is from a PvP perspective where I’d rather have one really nice hit with a high chance to proc over steady damage. But again, to each their own.

The other big thing is that in their own sort of unique way enhancement has been given a great gift… basically the spec has options. Enhancement has better use of its mana pool for burst damage and better use of its melee for steady damage. It gives you the best of both worlds without sacrificing all that much.

As for hit, as far as I know the hit gap is more or less eliminated in this patch. So stacking a great deal of hit won’t become overly necessary. In fact most of the ‘hunter’ gear will give you the hit you need.

Like your spec juggy i went with this spec on mine

    http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/shaman/talents.html?tal=000000000000000000000000325252031050213533113020125100000000000000000000000000

Lava lash looks cool but it’s really meant to take the place of WF on a fast OH weapon double WF is still the best for slow MH and OH.

I also left out the points in improved shields and static shock so i could put points into mental quickness, Gaurdian totems, and earth’s grasp cause i wanna try and PvP a bit. I felt that if i was gonna put the points in earthen power then i might as well make it as effective as i could.

    Just my 2 copper
BTW first time poster here i really love what you guys are doing.

Question. I’ve tried to chain spells together, couldn’t get it to work, tried the /castsequence as you have it here, GCD 2 seconds (just wanted a quick PW:S, DSpirit buff). Still doesn’t seem to work, any suggestions from anyone on where to find macro help?

I dunno why enh shammies get so much hate.

Honestly, if what you’re doing as an enh shammy is spamming stormstrike and earthshock, then of course you’re gonna get bored after awhile.

But if you know how to play around with the limited number of moves enh shammies have, it can be LOADS of fun.

IMO, if you think enhancement shammies are boring, then your probably don’t know how to play one.

And personally, I love all the different specs of shammies.

    Enhance Shammy FTW!
Before patch 3.0 went live, I was enhance sure, and doing well. But post-3.0 REALLY changed the way I play. It used to be that lightning bolt was a totally unused spell for me because of how long it took to cast (I’m an instant kinda guy). But now with maelstrom, maxed, I use it all the time! Stormstrike double-proccs Maelstrom Weapon most of the time for me, so by the time I spam Lava Lash and Stormstrike twice (with earth shock of course), its up and ready to go!. Plus, it works well for off heal. If a healer needs help, I keep plugging away, substituting a HW for the LB to keep people happy.

And the wolves… He’s right to wait on saving them for practically their own post. From off-tanking abilities to lifestealing to the fun little sprint they give you, there is a lot about these little guys.

I haven’t had a lot of experience with other characters, but my Enhancement Shaman, especially with the wolves now, has proven to have very little cooldown when grinding. The wolves’ CD is short enough to be ready just as I need a health boost. Same with Shamanistic Rage when I need mana. I haven’t eaten anything for health in a long time, and mana drinks are just for topping off. So try a Shaman if you don’t like downtime.

Now for the question that I have… I myself have been torn between double WF and doing WF and Flametongue. Not only does the Flametongue increase Lava Lash, but it gives spell power, which has been a lot more important now that I am casting some instant LBs. However, double WF is still awesome, and getting it to double proc using Stormstrike while Shamanistic Rage is amazing…
