I’m growing to believe that Blizzard loves to tease us players with awesome, world event-inspired items, then steal them away just as we’ve grown accustomed to them.
Case number one: Synthebrew Goggles, the beer goggles of the WoW world, which when I equipped made everyone look like a female orc. Somewhat disturbing, but they were a fun addition to my vanity gear with the yellow, glowing beams of light they emit from each lens. I shelled out 100 Brewfest tokens for those suckers, then Brewfest ended and the goggles departed from my inventory. At least I still have the Brewfest dress.
Case number two: The coveted Magic Broom: By far my favorite of the stolen-away gear. Both a ground and flying mount, this little contraption added a magical feel to WoW for those precious couple weeks of Hallow’s End. At least I saw this one coming, since it never was a learned mount, but instead a temporary item in my inventory. So, I made the most of my time with the broom; I challenged friends to races around Dalaran on it, and me and a few friends had grand plans to mount the brooms and stage a Harry Potter-style quidditch match at the Tournament Grounds. But that was stolen away from us. As was our uneaten candy. Noooooooo!
Now we have another awesome item just ready to be snatched away. Case number three: The Macabre Marionette. Who wouldn’t want a miniature dancing skeleton to match their dancing undead costume? You, too, can get your own. But, like the broom, you won’t actually add this pet as a permanent member of your collection. Come the end of Day(s) of the Dead, POOF! The marionette will become but a dancing memory.
I understand that Blizzard has their reasons for taking away our fun: by making the items special to only their designated world event, they become more of a novelty during that short window of time. If you want a permanent reminder of the events, you’ll have to work harder to get a rare drop like the Brewfest mounts or Headless Horseman mount.
But while I perfectly understand this reasoning, that doesn’t mean I like it. If it was up to me, we’d be able to mount a broom while eating candy, wearing goggles and calling forth our little dancing skeletons, all at once. Let me keep my precious lootz! Anyone else agree?

I still have the Cinnamon Balls and the Soothing Candy, but I’m using them up fast (+11 SP and +6 SP each on my lock and GNERDS for +5 Def on my DK, stacking up to 4 times each is quite a nice buff especially when Tanking below level 80). Might as well use them, as they will go off very soon.

Hey bro the synthebrew goggles simulated alcohol effects, your thinking of the Blix’s Eyesight Enhancing Romance Goggles these turned everyone into an orc as horde or gnome as alliance and i believe they do stay around but the ones that simulate alcohol do not

Agreed completely. I liked my Dancing marionette. I even summoned him for good luck in my last raid of the weekend.

I ran all over looking for flour to make that stupid bread and get the marionette. THEN I learned he’s not permanent. Freakin’ waste of my time. BOO on YOU, Blizzard! BOO!

@Daemonkel you’re right, I misnamed the goggles that make everyone looks like orcs. Maybe if they were still in my inventory I would have had an easier time double-checking that!!! Both Blix’s goggles and the synthebrew ones disappear, though, so it’s still sad
@Jason I know not of this “permanent broom” you speak of. Do tell. I did get a rickety broom, which doesn’t disappear automatically after Hallow’s End, but it does only have a limited duration. So it goes away regardless. Boo!

no such thing as a permanent broom
By Zreena on Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009 at 2:24 am
Agreed, none of the brooms were permanent.

There is a permanent broom. it’s one of the Headless Horseman drops, as I recall, and can be used anywhere, on the ground in the mainlands and flying elsewhere, so long as you have the proper skill level. The kicker, however, is that while the broom remains in your inventory, you can not use it EXCEPT during Hallow’s End. The Headless Horseman’s mount does not suffer this restriction.
I stuffed mine into the ever-growing morass of nostalgia and unused gems that is my bank vault, otherwise I would have listed the brooms name. And yes, the trick or treating rickety broomstick does disappear after a set number of days after recieving it, but remains useable, so one could potentially have gotten one on the last day of the event, and still ride it around for a while.

I seriously wish they’d make those all permanent too, but then it defeats the purpose of us getting on and doing the quest again next year, which blizzard thinks loses them money. Sick jerks.
