Choose… But Choose Wisely…

So I play an Alliance toon on Frostmane. I also play several other toons on a few servers, all Alliance. I enjoy playing humans for the most part, probably as an extension of familiar escapism, being as I am currently a human in RL. lol.

But I don’t hate on those who choose to play the Horde. I may hate on the Horde, and at most opportunities on the PvP servers, I will choose my battles with them wisely, but I really don’t hate the RL person who plays it. I figure that’s their choice. Like they say, don’t hate the player, hate the game.

The Horde races, and my perception of the lore of the Horde, never really appealed to me. I dabbled playing an undead lock for a few levels and a BE Pali but it just didn’t feel right to me. It’s just not my thing.

So I ask you, all of you Horde players, why? Why do you play a Horde character? What is the allure of being an Orc or Troll or Blood Elf? Okay maybe a Blood Elf for the /dance… seriously… the BE dudes dance like Napoleon Dynamite and the Female BE dance like Britney Spears her video Toxic video - very funny.

I’m seriously not h8in here. I just want to know your thoughts: what are your reasons for playing Horde?

I’m just curious.

Thanks

horde get WAY better racials, the troll and orc ones are VERY good for dpsing, and the undead 1s are uber badass for pvp, and the bloodelf is good for i dont really know what. and ally get, a crappy 1k heal, the ability to go invisible but u cant move, stone form is good for pvp and tanking, escape artist is good for pvp, the stealth detection on humans is good for pvp. but the horde racials are way the hell better. and atleast in my battlegroup, the horde always win. and a dwarf a gnome and a human are all the same, just diffrent heights, nightelves are humans with big ears and purple, drenai are very unique. and all the horde races except blood elves are really cool skins

I roll horde because personally i feel they are better for me.
i have an undead mage level 70 and a new toon i am levelling is a troll shaman, currently level 60 and levelling.
i started off with the mage because i love the will of the forsaken racial, as going against my anti-class (a lock) i need as much fear protection as possible.
also i chose a troll to be a shaman, as i feel on the alliance server a shaman seems very out of place, as much as i feel the paladins do on the horde side, also a troll for the faster regen of mana, very handy in a tight spot as a healer.
in all fairness to the alliance i did roll a few toons on different servers but found a lot of kids played alliance and only played at times of the day that didnt suit me. maybe i chose the wrong servers, i don’t know. but i am loving the horde so i see no resaon to change.
currently i am in a guild on the venture co. (EU) server, in a guild called the engineers, fun guild who enjo playing with engineering trinkets in booty bay and other things etc.
i have not had as much fun on alliance as i have on horde, people just seem to want to do more!
    so thats my reasons :D

The reason i play Horde is I played an Alliance toon up to 70 and just needed a change. I leveled multiple characters to 10 on Alliance and just didn’t wanna go through the starting areas again, so I rolled Horde and must admit i like it more just because for some odd reason Horde players, (at least on my server) aren’t in game dicks like i found a lot of the times on Alliance.

By shadows on Thursday, August 7th, 2008 at 11:48 am

i have a much simpler reason, my friends play horde so i play horde, and we party up and chat, it makes the game a lot more fun when you got someone to talk to ( as if it isnt already good enough). but i see no reason why one faction is better than the other, its all just personal preferance. Sometimes its just fun to swich things up too, so your not always levleing a guy from 1 to 25 in the same spot every time.

By andrew on Thursday, August 7th, 2008 at 11:50 am

well, i joined the horde because my friends are all horde, i personally dont care either way, but now after lvling two horde characters to lvl 70 and getting them gear on a pvp server, i got to say, i hate the fucking alaince, every fucking person that plays the alaince (on my server) has to be fucking 12 or have the IQ of my dog. i once got camped for 20min with my friend by a skull alaince while lvling my priest, i switched characters and brought my lvl 70 hunter all the way to strangelthorn and killed him 5 times, just to be fair, yes i did hunt him down. now when i switched back to my priest just to see if i could still lvl, guess what the duche did? he killed us, and continued camping our bodies, this is why i hate the alaince, i run into one child that decides to go into a lower lvl area and pick on lowbies.

as u can tell this is a touchy subject for me lol

By Toasterstrudull on Thursday, August 7th, 2008 at 12:10 pm

I rolled Tauren because everything is bigger on a tauren. Also, I wanted to be a druid and I didn’t like how night elves looked.

By Mark on Thursday, August 7th, 2008 at 12:20 pm

@Andrew - funny, the horde does that to me all the time.

I started out on a PVP server because my friends wanted to, and I rolled alliance because my friends did. I wasn’t interested in PVP at all.

As much as you hate the alliance, I hate the horde, for the same reasons, so keep that in mind.

By Polrah on Thursday, August 7th, 2008 at 12:33 pm

Alliance I feel, at least on my server, is way to cliche. Most of the horde were good guys in Warcraft 3, so I took that into WoW.

Also, who doesn’t want to be a seven foot Rastafarian troll.

By Pime on Thursday, August 7th, 2008 at 12:35 pm

I play Undead ofr 1 simple reason. I love them. My passion for the Horde began from WarCraft 3, coz when they put Undeads to the WC series I was like “OMG these dudes are so cool and dead!” Ranked 13th on Melee with UD’s on B.Net _\,,\ When WoW came out I bought it couple fo days from the release and wanted to see how to Undead’s looked like. When I was like, lvl 8-10 and went to Undercity for the first time, I was so amazed how they could make the Undead capital so Awsome. I loved the whole UD starting Lore, love it still and I still like to do my hobby, levelling EVERY low lvl char from 1 to 25 at Undead places like, Tirisfal, Silverpine & Hillsbrad Foothill’s where my favorite UD town Tarren Mill is. Horde just pwns Alliance, no offence.

I just find on my server (Aman’Thul) that I have way more fun playing as Horde. I’ve leveled characters on both sides at the same time, and for some reason, as much as I love my Draenei Preist, she is getting less and less attention due to the simple fact I just don’t like my fellow Allies.
It’s just silly things mainly, like helping out each other if you realize someone needs it, Ive had Allies stand and watch me get slaughtered by mobs they agroed. I dont hate the Allies. On my server there is just a more community feel on the Horde side!

By FrOzEnFiRe on Thursday, August 7th, 2008 at 1:16 pm

TROLLS! no other reason..the additude..tusks..way they walk, speak, emote&all, just love it ofc undeads are more for pvp bad ass race but trolls..there is something about them..not bad ass.. just relaxed..but still at the same time very brutal(due to lore: trolls ARE canibals although not darkspear=P) another race i like is blood elfs..do no why but like to play with my paladin atleast.. =)

By Jordan on Thursday, August 7th, 2008 at 1:31 pm

I chose horde coz i had a mate on horde side.

By FreaKeroppi on Thursday, August 7th, 2008 at 1:44 pm

I have quite a few alliance characters but I also have a couple of horde for a few reasons.

1 - Sometimes I need a breakaway. Often times there’s just too many kids on the Alliance main city chat (Trade, more often than not). Anal jokes, anybody? Thus I’ll switch to the Horde side where the chats are usually much more content and mature yet at the same time, enjoyable.

2 - As a player, it’s nice to know as many aspects of the game as possible. If I plan on raiding as Alliance, I need to first know the areas of what I’m raiding. Having a hordie (?) allows me to gain this knowledge.

3 - Better PvP. There’s no denying it. Almost every battleground I’ve entered with a horde character, I have won. Why? Because they know what it means to communicate. Most of the time on Alliance (especially at lower levels), you’ll get a bunch of 12s and 17s who are just for the first time trying a certain BG out and don’t effectively know how to play it well. That’s not to say Alliance sucks at BGs (I’ve won quite a lot with my main), but as to say Horde just knows how to communicate better.

    And that covers my reasons.

By Beefeater on Thursday, August 7th, 2008 at 2:04 pm

I have multiple Alliance characters including my first main, a rogue on Proudmoore, then my second main, a druid on Wild Hammer. The rogue stopped at 60 when I rerolled on a new server with RL friends and started the druid. After we hooked up with a large guild, did the raiding thing, eventually became the leaders of the guild, dealt with a crapload of drama, we decided to reroll… we were looking for something different, less drama, a new setting, a new pace… Horde seemed perfect.

Now that I am Horde I can’t imagine playing an Alliance character. At first I felt like I was a bit of a traitor, but that faded fast. In general, the horde community feels older to me. Maybe more mature as well. That’s part of the appeal. Although some of the top raiding guilds are Alliance, Horde also feels like a different caliber of player — that’s a generalization of course.

When it comes to battlegrounds we seem to win most pug AB, WSG and EotS matches. AV in my battlegroup is another story — Horde don’t like to play D at the IB chokepoint, thus we lose often. I got really, REALLY tired of losing BGs while I playing Alliance. I grinded to Rank 10 through that crap. I blame lack of being able to work together as Alliance pugs for the loss. Not an imbalance of maps, or favored objectives. When I played on organized teams we did well. Horde pugs seem to be able to work together — in general, not always.

Horde feels more intimidating with it’s “monster-ish” races. I certainly felt that intimidation while playing Alliance. Having a massive Tauren warrior barreling down on you is a little scary. There’s something fun about being on the other side of that intimidation factor now. From a PvP perspective I think it can be advantageous. From a PvE perspective it helps make one feel a bit more unstoppable as well.

Last, but not least, the RL human race (especially in this country) makes me sad. And, video games are an escape from all the BS we see in RL. Call me a hippy, but playing a Tauren Druid and Shaman — both with close relations to the earth and all that’s natural — is a nice escape from our sad reality.

I just choose the horde because of the lore and the elf…i like elfs….and the the horde lore is amazing, during the 1,2 and 3 war and there a strong people which is my opinion, also you can’t denied the fact that the horde pwnd the alliance in BGs,a nd the racial skills, which makes the horde a fine faction too start, the alliance…well i just donno there a bit old fashioned to a player that played warcraft 2 and 3……
Now the only thing that the alliance was that is good…its the gnomes, there small frame and there racil skill which in the confusion of a BG can easily make a mess…But that’s just my opinion

By Jordan on Thursday, August 7th, 2008 at 2:14 pm

i rolled as a horde because they have better raicals there starting area is a bit better an every one on the horde is not a dudce or a kid that doesnt know what caps are or dont know there making people deaf on mic but i still have alliance toon dont play them as much mostly play my BE hunter might deleted my aliance also horde are better on some BG and PVP outdoors too

By Scyno on Thursday, August 7th, 2008 at 2:15 pm

    I Play Horde!
Ive always played horde in any warcraft game, felt cool killing humans in video games not RL.
My main is a 70 rogue, I enjoy the mature playing style of the horde.
I did try alliance out on a PVP server with some friends and I coudnt take the whinning about the horde whopping there asses.
Its a god damn pvp server thats what you do, level up and go gank some lowbies haha. I played several diff. instances with some alliance crowd and they all seemed to be kids not knowing who to play there classes correctly.

Let me make clear, Im a hardcore gamer, i dont like to waste time, i know what i want am as a rogue, im gonna get it as fast as possible. Learn your class, grow up, wow is for adults more than kids.

    For the HORDE!!

By masterinsan0 on Thursday, August 7th, 2008 at 2:44 pm

I know this article is supposed to be about reasons for rolling Horde, but I’m flip it around and say why I don’t play Horde. For me, it’s always been a simple case of going where I can find a group fastest. I started playing around patch 1.4, and I decided to roll both an Alliance and a Horde character. On PvE servers anyway, the Horde zones always seemed to be empty while the Alliance zones were full. I’m fairly certain this is still the case even today–on PvE servers there are more Alliance than Horde most of the time.

On PvP servers this isn’t the case, primarily because there are more people like Scyno who get their rocks off on causing misery for people trying to level a new character. I can understand the logic for choosing Horde–if you’re going to gank lowbies, you might as well look intimidating while you do it.

By Dirn on Thursday, August 7th, 2008 at 3:00 pm

I chose to play Horde because the Alliance is too pretensious in my opinion. The Human NPCs talk about “The Light” often and yet have warlocks as a playable class. Another thing that irks me is that the Draenei worship the light and the Naaru, yet they look to the spirits(shaman) for guidance also. The Night Elf and Dwarves don’t bother me as much though. The Alliance seems like one big cliche to me where as the Horde is unique and original.

By laame on Thursday, August 7th, 2008 at 3:19 pm

I was playing ally some time ago on US servers, then i got poor and couldn’t afford official WoW for a while so messed with private server on my PC and I fell in love with shamans. That’s why I’m now playing horde. Currently I’m rolling a Tauren Shaman on Mazrigos (PvP-EU) but I’m thinking of making a troll one, it looks more fun then my tauren. And I hate it in instances. It’s too damn big and in small rooms it’s hard to navigate, especially because I’m Enhancement Shaman.

    For the Horde !

By Hemo on Thursday, August 7th, 2008 at 4:30 pm

Umm.. why do i play horde? Good question. I play horde for the fact the ally are not as fictional as horde. Ally are based of humens and i like geting away from real life as much as i can so i chose horde. I also loved horde cuz of there lvling area’s they have. Ally have the basic humenish areas which i do not like. And i have also found out that most kids play ally (not trying to start a fight) but kids now a days want to be the good guys and win so they think the ally are the good guys and the hirde are the bad guys which i have heard from alot of people.

By Xhypher on Thursday, August 7th, 2008 at 5:38 pm

When I first started, it had nothing to do with Alliance or Horde, I just like elves, I don’t know why. So naturally, pre-BC, I rolled my first character as a Night Elf Rogue. Of course then the Burning Crusade dropped and I got Blood Elves (which to me is more like a true elf) so from that point on it was WHOOOOOOOO, FOR THE HORDE! But I think what kept me playing Horde I think was the simple fact that the Horde had waaay cooler races. I mean, I’m already a regular dude in this reality, why would I want to pay a subscription fee just to be a regular dude in another? What are my other options? Midgets! You mean I can still be a regular dude, only smaller! Oh boy!!!!! As far as the Draenei…ehh, anything they can do the Horde can do better. Warrior? Shaman? Roll a tauren and get 5% extra health for your trouble. Mage? Pally? Hunter? Priest? Elves can restock their mana while simultaneously ripping it out from under their enemies. Of course I would NEVER abandon my purple-skinned sylvan brothers, but I never feel as bad-ass as I do when I’m on one of my Hordies.

By Paul Adamski on Thursday, August 7th, 2008 at 7:18 pm

I rolled Horde for the lore. Plain and simple. XD

By Brian Self on Thursday, August 7th, 2008 at 8:48 pm

The whole lore and style of blood elves is so appealing its why I play the game.

By Craig on Thursday, August 7th, 2008 at 10:02 pm

i wanted to roll my main a BE because i loved the look and lore. but i did not have BC. so i rolled human because they were my next choice. well after a couple of bgs…. i got sick and tired of getting ganked by the horde and ally forces not working together! so i went and bought, BC became a BE rouge and am now all. FOR THE HORDE! :)

By Dan on Thursday, August 7th, 2008 at 10:29 pm

I play Horde because when I first looked at the races, I thought to myself.

“Man if this were a real battle, these bigs guys on the Hordes team would tear apart those tiny people over there.” And thats when the decision was made, been playing Horde ever since.

My friend made an Alliance character on another server and asked me where to go and I just stared at him clueless, seeing as how I have never leveled anywhere as an Alliance toon :P

By Cruneiros on Friday, August 8th, 2008 at 1:02 am

Really I play both. But I agree with alot of the others here the Alliance has more younger people. I feel the Horde are more mature as well as more mentally stable than the Alliance. More than once my server(exodar) has this lvl 49 Night Elf druid twink(Don’t ask) who constantly throws the trade chat into chaos by bringing up the presidental election, racism, religion, stuff that should be left OUT of WoW. People come in to get away from those things. I’m not saying that people on the horde are ALL mature *Cough Chuck Norris Barrens Chat Cough* but it seems most of the time I get better groups. I do hate the Undead though really creepy, always staring at me. Uhghh.

Thats all hope I made my opinion clear. ^_^

To tell you the truth, i started out as Alliance. Reason being is when i first started the game, my brother had already been playing and I thought that maybe i could get a little advice from him at first. So I played, and i eventually got a hunter up to 54. Then i completely stopped. I started to realise that alliance are just a bunch of either RL 12 year olds or REALLY immature adults. Either way it was ridiculously gay. My dad then got a job in the middle - east, in a country called Qatar. From there on i went to an international AMERICAN school. (Kinda ironic eh?) Anyways, i met a few friends and found out that they played as well, on bloodscalp as HORDE. So i was like, “dude wtf why would you ever play horde? Horde = teh phail.” /bitchslap was basically their response. So i started out on their server, made an orc and got him up to level 8. Fuck that! I proceeded to go back to my hunter, (this is all pre-bc btw. so marks was the shit back then.) I kept dying for some reason and stopped playing, decided that i’d come back when BC came out in the next month or so. And so i waited, and waited, and waited…being blizzard and all it got postponed back. When it came out though, i thought that blood elve’s looked a HELL of alot cooler than Draenei’s. So i rolled a belf paladin and leveled along side my brother, a belf priest. Unfortunately, his main called and i was left alone, all by myself in the scary ghostlands. O.O I eventually got addicted to her (Yes, i rolled the opposite sex…What?! They have cool dances!) she is now level 70 and i realise that alliance can EAT MY…whoa mom aggro.

    For the Horde!

By Jem on Friday, August 8th, 2008 at 6:19 am

i just dont like gnomes…. and would not want them on my team

By Takiti on Friday, August 8th, 2008 at 10:27 am

i play as horde because in all RPGS I have ever played i always like to play as the most chaotic evil race and class as I can just for the sake of being able to crush anyone who pisses me off and I find the races of the horde offer that rather than the alliance

By Alec on Friday, August 8th, 2008 at 11:06 am

Honestly i jus like to have the feeling of bein a big dude beating the hell out of a gnome and feeling like the big guy or pretend that the human guy is that guy that makes me amd and get my anger out on him lol…

By octane on Friday, August 8th, 2008 at 11:11 am

    I mainly play a gnomewarrior.
They’re damn cool and its fun to just know that the other person is humiliated when you kick their ass in pvp.
Also they are small, and slowingeffects and roots/frost nova owns warriors, and ive got escape artist.

Horde main cities just aren’t as organized and easy to navigate as the main alliance cities.

    Stormwind>Org

But yeah horde is cool too, i have a neglected 70 tauren also.

By William on Friday, August 8th, 2008 at 11:41 am

I play a lvl 66 BE paladin beacuase of the Dance ofc but under the following months ive discovered after raching lvl 30 its much more fun, the start newbie qst are kinda boring so it is understandable that u don like hordes and u had probaly played alliance so long that horde didn’t seem so interresting but it can also be that u are pwning hordes in Bg that u cant realise ur playing the horde beacuase they suck compared to alliance. So just coninue play alliance dontt try joining our force cuase your better in alliance so we can kick your butt :).
Also the main cities for horde look like shit

    Mockimocki 66 paladin Wildhammer EU

Love ur show will stay tuned (sorry for bad enlish)

By Unidus on Friday, August 8th, 2008 at 11:45 am

I for one ALWAYS liked the alliance, from war 2 that i first played in ‘99 I was crazy about the whole faction, first i finished the game just for fun, then i finished it for the lore, and sucked myself into it.I tried the horde it was great as well, but I don’t fancy a weak race that asks for demons help for they’re own empowerment .No don’t get me wrong the horde changed a lot, they’re anti-demonology now(minor exception to the warlocks that can restrain themselves).

Now when WoW launched, here in Romania it’s nearly impossible to get a credit card.I started on a private server, and it was a horrible experience ,bugs, quests didn’t work, lore was nowhere, horrible and stressing.

Then i started playing wow on the Official servers do to the Pre-Paid card’s which made my ‘experience’ easier :-) .
Okey so there was the QUESTION,what to choose,of course i chose alliance since my Friends were alliance, though…i needed to see how things worked out.Started on Hellfire (EU) ,was a SO-so experience, tried a horde char on as well.
    Well,then it came:

1.I HATED the horde zones,I am not to fancy of jungles and deserts I hate them [oh the lore wasn't appealing at all since i was mostly custom and lover of the alliance,so that was a pretty good reason]

2.Playing as the alliance i took a ‘researching’ approach, and i saw how every horde reacted ,mostly reading on YouTube and forums it’s like this :”LOL alliance gays FTH FTH fuck you alliance ,horde beats alliance ass” and i AM NOT AT ALL dramatizing ,everybody says that alliance are 12 year olds but come on,behaving like that is not even normal for a 12 year old,yes they’re adults. That was the main point, talk about racism ,but having an idiot post “HORDE FTW (copy paste) insert*some kind of drawing i didn’t decipher”
That’s why I rolled alliance mostly.Oh and the ‘racial’ thing, that counts for me (as an alliance player) in a pvp like 2% it ain’t that big of a whoop that everybody is talking, they aren’t really making such a bad time for me.

Well farewell to all and don’t be racists ,insert your post with wisdom not *ally gay* -ism.

By Taylor Medley on Friday, August 8th, 2008 at 11:48 am

I started on a horde side when WOW first released getting a troll shaman to 60 then stopped playing for a while. Once BC dropped i played ally to 70 and then went back to my troll.
I noticed that when i played ally the guild i ended up getting in was childish compared to my raiding guild on my horde.
So when i went back to my horde expecting to see all the same people its was the same thing once the BE came into play.
As far as one side being more childish then the other they both are about the same you just have to look for the more mature players that are on both sides.

By Fieryluffy on Friday, August 8th, 2008 at 11:50 am

horde is so much better i only like dranei on alliance

By Kipnif on Friday, August 8th, 2008 at 11:57 am

On my server, the horde controls the world. Another reason I play Horde is because I play Druid, Nelf Druids are waaaaay too tiny for me. Lastly therre are no GOOD free leveling guides for Alliance.

By Kipnif on Friday, August 8th, 2008 at 12:01 pm

I play Horde because the only class i can play well is a Druid. The Alliance Nelf is too small for me, though i consider them because of their nicer forms. Also there are no good leveling guides for Alliance.

By MrCoffee on Friday, August 8th, 2008 at 12:22 pm

Even though I play Alliance now, I started on the Horde and I still think that Tauren are the best looking race in the game. Tauren > Draenai > Orc (Lore mostly) > Everything else as far as my race preferences go. So at least I got my 2nd favorite race to play with now, but I really don’t like having to play as a Night Elf on my druid. I stay shifted about 99% of the time.

By Delatho on Friday, August 8th, 2008 at 1:50 pm

I choose to play horde because on offense to the allis, but you guys can get really annoying real fast. I was always bugged to duel and even when I said no they still asked. Heck by the time I was lvl 16 my ignore list was almost flooded. It just feels that cooler players play on the horde. Also a post said earlier that all the races were very unique I will go with that guy to, the alli races kinda feel all the same accept for Night Elves and Drani.

By ngthagg on Saturday, August 9th, 2008 at 2:04 am

I don’t remember why I made my first character horde (troll hunter), but I know why I stay. The stories are better, with the orc’s escape from slavery and the forsaken’s flirtation with evil. When you play Horde, you’re playing someone who has had to fight for everything they got. (Blood elves don’t really fit in, but I played Horde before the expansion.)

There’s also practical considerations. Thunder Bluff, Orgrimmar, Undercity, and when you need it, Grom’gol, provide a nice central base for questing, no matter what level you are. Only Badlands, Searing Gorge, and Burning Steppes have poor accessibility. On the Alliance side, Darnassus is an abomination and neither Ironforge nor Stormwind have direct access to Kalimdor.

Aesthetics play a role as well. The Horde is made up of monsters who just look good with the WoW proportions of broad shoulders and thick arms. Alliance, humans and night elves especially, look misshapen. Gnomes are a constant joke (and have LoS problems with railings). Night elves are a bunch of hippies. Dwarves are the only Alliance race that has any appeal to me.

These are all reasons for why I don’t choose Alliance now. But the reason I stick with the Horde is that I am Horde. I’ve played Horde for long enough now that I take delight in hurting the Alliance any way I can. Whether it’s on a battleground, world pvp, as part of a quest, whatever, I’ll whatever I can. I’m not a RPer, but I’ll always respond in kind when someone shouts, “For The Horde!”

i picked the Tauren cause it was the closes to me and my Personality and looked really cool. I know a Noob reason for picking it lol

By Zurokantu on Saturday, August 9th, 2008 at 11:55 pm

I made an orc because the racials are excellent for enhancement shamans (though, healers don’t appreciate how I pull aggro in instances when I’ve got Blood Fury reducing their heals by 50%). In addition, the Alliance just seems boring and way too religious. Not to mention that a large percentage (from experience) of the toons are played by immature 10 year olds who made an Alliance character because they’re the “good guys.”

Plus, the Horde seems somewhat “better” than the Alliance in terms of crimes…okay, the old Horde was just insane and did really wicked stuff, but the new Horde tried to make friends with the Alliance. How did the Alliance respond? They cut off the hand that was held out to them in a friendly gesture before the owner could speak.

“Wall of text crits you for…”, “lollore”, “WERE BETTR THN U”, “NUB LMAO”, etc etc

Feel free to correct me if some of my lore is off, there’s too much to remember accurately. :)

What appeals to me about the Horde is how honorable they are. (The NPC’s anyways..) Whenever they greet eachother it’s always “Strength and honor”, and that stuff. Also, their entire lives are dedicated to serving the warchief and the horde. When the orc mogrim in warcraft III failed to deliver a note to the warchief, he said “This would be a good death, if it hadn’t been for my failure.” And then he went on to say that his honor had been lost. So Rexxar took his note to the young Orgrimmar and its warchief and started on his voyages.

But the horde also has a feel that you don’t get with the alliance. The fact that you’re living in a warrior society where your powress in combat reflects your standing in society is really obvious when you’re walking the streets of orgrimmar. The music too helps bring this feeling to light,

I used to play alliance. (Mostly because of my IRL friends) But whenever I did I couldn’t help but get the feeling ut’s much harder to level as alliance. It may be bacuase I’m used to leveling horde, but it just felt so much harder. You had to travel between all sorts of zones before you even hit 25. Playing as horde there’s only 2 zones uptil lvl 25. Your start zone and the barrens..

Seeing as I’ll never change anyones opinions on which side is the better, I can’y help but wonder… Why did I write this? Anyways, good luck out there.

Personally, I like both sides equally, Alliance and Horde alike. They both have their seperate appeals.

As Alliance, you (can) have the feeling of actually being there, as a Human per-say, and of living a medieval sort of life. The races on that side are more familiar with people, and they are easy to connect too.

As Horde, you get to be something different, something outside the norm. You get to be something that has been traditionally viewed as a ‘badguy’ race, and it’s interesting to see just how not-bad the people are.

I think that is the main reason I like playing Horde a bit more then Alliance though. I have always been the type of person to like the stories behind things more then what is set as face-value. The Horde are presented as the ‘evil’ ones, but they are really just as ‘good’ as any of the Alliance. They are just on opposite sides of a war, of course the opposing side is going to be evil to them. The Alliance just seems to attract more of the young, ignorant kids that believe only humans and such are all good and happy. I like to prove them wrong. ;)

like everyone just said about horde getting racials. But, i seem to see more experienced players on horde and they are all (in general) older and nicer. It’s not bias, it’s just what i see. I would prefer to play on alliance but the flames you get while leveling would make me have to shoot someones knee cap off

By Tom on Monday, August 11th, 2008 at 2:58 pm

To be honest, other than the racials, there isn’t really too much of a difference. I can see how players on one side might hate the other due to ganking/etc, but you have to remember, behind every player is a person just like you. So based on that, I really can’t see how you can truly HATE the other faction. I like to think of it as a competitive rivalry.

By nutsmonk on Monday, August 11th, 2008 at 10:16 pm

I have to go with the horde the racials are better and for me there is nothing better then running around westfall as a lock and finding a nice lvl 17 gnome thats flaged that tries to run with a dot on him. also its more interesting to play a orc then the standard human, gnome guys. And the final thing is the horde have a much better story and lore then the alliance.

    FOR THE HORDE

By david on Tuesday, August 12th, 2008 at 5:32 pm

the first time i played WoW, i waso na friends computer at his house. i was so addicted i practically lived there the entire week. i chose the horde because i enjoyed the trolls starting area, and the barrens zone. ever since ive been addicted to trolls. (troll hunter)

horde appeals t ome more than the alliance, however i do enjoy playing multiple characters for a little variety. for instance my main is a trolll hunter, but i have a gnome mage, dranei shaman, and night elf rogue (one of which i will choose to be my main on the alliance)

doesnt matter which you prefer, as long as your on a different realm, you can play both!

By Haef on Tuesday, August 12th, 2008 at 10:35 pm

I play horde now, though I didn’t for quite some time. I started out with elves and what not leveling a NE druid, then I worked on a human rogue named Kerrigan for a short while. Then when penny arcade started playing on the dark iron server I played as Modama, a NE Rogue and was shined on by fate by being able to join Anarchy, a great guild with a lot of nice people. Though with all those experiences I found that I didn’t really like Alliance as a group of people. Though some were nice there were certainly a lot of people who were most likely twelve year olds who had gotten to big for there britches. So when an RL friend of mine wanted to play we both rolled UD warriors and I’ve never looked back. Though I also rolled a BE pally. I think I like the horde better also because of the social lore that goes with them. The “Good guys” are only as good as the history books make them sound. Every leader and every race has needs and wants. They can’t be simply classified as good and evil, those are thoroughly outmoded terms and shouldn’t be given such a large chunk of our focus when choosing who we want to play as. Though as a final note I would like to say I like the BE, UD part of the horde way more then the Tauren, Troll, Orc, side. I like more of the caverns and sprawling cities instead of the far more tribal camps. That is one thing I miss about Alliance, better architecture.

I’m sort of rambling… but on a final note, if any Alliance see a BE pally questing around on the Stormscale server, don’t gank me, I didn’t even do anything to you.

    None the less….

    FOR THE HORDE!

By Thegs on Wednesday, August 13th, 2008 at 5:49 pm

Well lets take a look at the words (mostly adjectives) you’d associate with different races, allies first:

Humans: noble, good, honourful, kind, average, smart.
Nelves: noble, good, honourful, kind, natureloving, ageless, wise, furious at times.. and quite self-centered.
Dwarves: noble, honourful, good, sturdy, headstrong, drunkards, tinkers and makers, strong characters, irish accent.
Gnomes: I’ll skip them ’cause I hate them.
Draenei: good, noble, wise, honourful, kind, ageless, quite big, loving and caring, holy.

    And horde:

Orcs: shamanistic, strong, sometimes noble, sometimes kind, hierarchy-following, honourful, furious when angered, berserking. Flawed, but still not inhumane.
Taurens: earth-loving, shamanistic, peaceful at times, very strong, big, wise in a way, tribal, slow at times. Less furious than orcs, flawed but still not inhumane.
Trolls: voodoo, shamanistic, partly dark partly hilarious, jamaican accent and capoiera, tusks, furious at times, wise at times, a history full of greatness but also shame. Flawed but still not inhumane.
Undead: a lot of them evil, sorrowful, indifferent and heterogenic, dark, have lost a lot, still at times honourful, still at times caring, confused. Flawed and more evil than any other race, but still not completely inhumane.
Belves: proud, fallen, vengeful, sometimes honourful but often not, confused, disgraced, broken and lustful of magics.

To me, the alliance races seem more homogenic, holy and unrealistically good. The horde races are, in my opinion, much more humane. The lore behind them and their mistakes is deeper. The idea of a feral-looking being like orc not actually being completely consumed by evil is a nice change from the old Lotr-view of orcs. Taurens, the big fluffy cows, are a nice addition. They are all different, have their different histories and philosophies, but still they work together. Allies are not nearly as interesting. The dwarves have the most potential.

By Adam on Saturday, August 16th, 2008 at 10:48 am

I guess I’ll list my characters and why I play them. I cross faction, with a favoritism toward Horde.

Keshan - 70 Draenai Shaman - Only real Alliance race I can stand to play, strangely. Everyone seems to hate them, whether it be their looks or lore. I love ‘em. Mainly play this toon to play with my step fam.

Wrathblade - 52 Belf Rogue - I play Belfs mainly because, well, I’m built like one. I relate to them. ANd besides - Belf Rogue +Cursed Vision of Sargareas + Twin Azzinoth Warglaives? H. O. T.

Nargrel - 45 Orc Shaman - Strangely enough I relate to the orc’s plight as well. If you want the fully story, go read Lord of the Clans by Christie Golden. That book almost made me cry. xD

Tanthren - 40 Belf Pally - Again, relation to the Belves, I like to tank but I find warrior tanking a little intimidating.

Ithrenus - 30 Belf Mage - Again, relation to Belves. I had a 63 mage at one point but it was a troll, and troll + mage = weird non-fitting lore and equipment looks weird. I know, strange reason to give up a 63.

Nazrax - 10 Orc Warlock - Because Warlocks have to be Orcs.

By Alex S. on Saturday, August 16th, 2008 at 6:16 pm

I rolled horde just to explorer areas that I wouldn’t normally explore when playing alliance. Plus the horde usually win my battlegroup.

By Nick on Sunday, August 17th, 2008 at 3:32 pm

I play Horde Orc Shaman cause of the lore. I have played all WarCraft games and the history of orc shaman just fascinates me.Ever since i played wc3 and read the two books “Lord of the Clans” and “Rise of the Horde” with their tragic past and so on i was like totaly hyped, so thats my story ^^

Greetings from Fenrisar, High-Shaman of the Horde and protector of the old ways!!! (EU-Destromath)

Me and my gf play horde because we feel this game should be dark and evilish
not like a kids game where you have fairy’s and castle’s you can skip though flowers and what not

and horde racial abilities are better

By Nick on Thursday, August 21st, 2008 at 3:14 am

its just sad that most people see the horde as “dark and evilish”anyone ever read the tragic past of the Orcs ? i mean they were friends with the Dranei until an idiot named Guldan and an senile Ner´zhul doomed the orcs.

I wish more understanding for the Orcs and their past.

i am a troll shaman b4 bc so i want 2 b a shaman and it wuz horde only then

By Kwatee on Sunday, August 24th, 2008 at 5:21 pm

I chose Horde because from the lore point of view, Alliance are huge dickwads. They shoved the orcs who lost the demonic taint and just wanted peace (particularly Thrall) into internment camps. (remind you of anything, World War II, Japanese internment camps?) Also, the night elves are the reason for all the messed up crap happening in the game world anyway, what with using their magic recklessly and drawing the Legion to them, also creating the naga.

By andrew on Thursday, August 28th, 2008 at 2:02 am

Righto everyone has good reasons why they play horde or even allience instead of the other fraction. but i would like to give a break down of the inbalance of factions on each side.

EU severs [Europe] are dominated by allience. lots of people may know of “Athene” and all that. but if you want to roll winning bg’ers and everything else you go allience in EU servers.

Oceanic and American servers are dominated by horde. Now of course for both Allience and Horde in certain battle groups one its better than the other and its the same for allience on EU servers. But the majority of the bg and other thing winners are horde.

So if you are starting a Horde OR Allience think carefully about your geographically location before choosing a side if your not into raging at your computer for being completely obliterated 5 times in a row at av.

Horde racials are of course better than allience. except if your a rogue human where it may advantage you more then being say undead rogue. but on the most part allience get crappy racials. But to all those who say night elfs stealth is crap i’ll disagree very strongly with you there. i have 70 night elf rogue and its incredibly usefull when you’ve just got out of battle or sitting on the edge of on with low HP you can just eat while in stealth which is extreemly useful.

i have also found [playing both sides 66 rogue on horde 70 rogue and 70 pally on allience] that horde [i play oceanic servers but 66 rogue is on american] that horde would be more mature and on average seem to be better skilled. i just feel and it may not be true that allience get stuck with younger generation of people. but then again it may just be because i’m in the Non EU servers where we would woop ass all day long.

By Zearha on Sunday, August 31st, 2008 at 2:44 pm

I have a 70 horde (Warth Mage Undead Vashj[not all that geared]) and a 70 ally(Zearha Rogue Gnome Blood Furnace).

the diffrents between them if there really is any, but if i would have to look deep into it i would say that yes ally has way more kids playing or people who act like kids, but horde they have will more insaulting people. Talking to people i found on horde server is that u cant do a thing wrong at all or they jump on u. Think about this i was sheeping like a good mage does in Mana Tomes. Durning one of the sheep it failed and the thing got a little piss at me and Mana Burned me dead. my miss sheep whip the group and i was kicked.

By Josh on Monday, September 1st, 2008 at 6:31 am

Well, it’s not true that horde ALWAYS wins in bg’s :( I play on the Dragonmaw EU server(also known as Dramamaw for the almost non-existing guildprogress and lack of tanks/healers) , which os part of the Battlegroup Bloodlust, now in most bg’s ally horde wins are about 50-50, but man horde sux in AV on my battlegroup, and everyone who plays different server tell me horde pwns bg’s and i don’t see ANYTHING about that on Bloodlust EU battlegroup, and that kinda makes me sad :(

By goomed on Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008 at 1:47 am

well I first started as a human pally but around the 40s mark thing got out of control as a rap pally i rarely got groups for any dungeons and when i was i was tank and people blam me for not healing as well I like o…k weird I am tanking and healing and it got the next I suck on healing then ever1 blams me for not tanking or ever off tanking i am like how can do 2 thing that once and I was new to the game so after getting to much blam I was like well the allis are jerks so I delete he and try a undead warrior and I got him to lv 70 and having fun :)

By John on Tuesday, September 9th, 2008 at 11:57 pm

I play Horde for one reason: the age difference. I find that when I get into random pugs, or even trade chat while playing an Alliance toon, the conversation is of a lower maturity level than when I play my Horde toon. I only play PvP servers, so I negate both sides of the ganking delima. Everyone ganks, and everyone gets ganked… both Alliance and Horde. But I find when I’m instancing or talkin’ with guildies, there seems to be a more intelligent, sophisticated, and mature conversation level on my Horde toons.
Additionally, I find that the Horde races seem to be outcast and seen as either monsters or betrayers. And it intrigues me to see why their side of view…

I play a horde and an ally, none I love better.
I dont think it should be chosen by appearence, but by racials,Flight paths(the horde one in thousband needles is awesome, and so is the ally flight path in blasted lands.)
Different players too, ofc, cuz if you are in a server where the allys treat you bad,you will probably change to horde(unless you want to be extreme and leave the server,or do nothing and enjoy going alone places)
The thing is both factions have great ups and downs, and
Some racial talents treaties and classes treaties help too, because if you want to choose a certain class or prof, then it will probably affect your decision.
In the end it comes down to the player’s choice.

By Egma on Monday, September 15th, 2008 at 2:07 am

I roll both… I started on horde way back when… never got a char past 30 because I was trying all the classes and what not before I choose one… Then I found out that PvP titles where going away soon (yes this was pre BC) and so I desided to switch from the server I was on to a PvE server just so that I could get some easy titles before they died… the side that had the better low level PvP on that server at the time was the alliance so that is what I made… I was annoyed that I was 1 week away from hitting knight when the 2.0.1 patch got released removing the old PvP title system when I thought I had till launch day and not just patch day.

Since I already had a few higher level alliance by that point I stuck with them till about a month ago in which time I wanted a different view on the quests, plus I wanted to have both a 70 Alliance and 70 horde on 2 different servers before 3.0.1 so I went back to horde on my original server to reroll onto it…

I mainly wanted 70s on both sides just so that I could go I played through both sides before you could go woop I have a 55 on this server that I don’t have any other char on yet. Since my horde are on PvP server and my Alliance are on PvE I am going to level my horde first for minimul gankage while leveling and then go back to my good old alliance.

Story summarized I rolled horde just to say that I played both sides up before there where such things as hero classes.

i personally started as a nelf warrior but got rlly bored with the starting quests and then made a dwarf hunter got bored with those quests and was like “WTF i thought this game was supposed to be fun” so then i made a tauren druid and instantly fell in love the starting quests were cool (imo) and the zone was awesome

By Penegal on Sunday, July 12th, 2009 at 2:56 pm

Well, I originally started on a private server. The first cahracter I ever created was a Tauren Druid. So from there on I somehow sympathise the Horde. Especially the Tauren. I have no idea why but I really enjoy playing as a Tauren. I do hate a few of the starter quests but hey, nothing’s perfect (it’s all IMO). Though I rolled a NE Warrior when I started retail I actually hate it lol. It’s kind of a pain to play it. Anyway I rerolled as a Tauren Warrior (No idea why I just felt like I wanted to be a warrior) I’m thinking of rolling an UD/BE Mage or a Tauren Druid. Still not sure but we’ll see.
